Hey Comic, as an RPG player, what do you think of this?

There's a common meme on /tg/ about really powerful Wizards being huge dicks with no respect for life, or just no sense of right and wrong. But after playing Planescape: Torment and then moving to Baldur's Gate 2, I think I know why.

In real life, killed people are gone. Either they're removed from this realm forever or they cease to be forever. Either way, you're ending someone's experience on this Earth and separating them from everyone they know. Which is awful.

But in D&D, almost everyone who dies is just moved somewhere else. Good people? Fly to the outer planes, live forever in literal heaven that matches their alignment. Neutral people? Also go somewhere that matches their alignment, like the Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus (which is awesome). Evil people go to whichever hell best matches their alignment, but even then redemption is possible. And the best part? THEY CAN COME BACK. It is completely reasonable for a planar wizard living in Sigil to jump to Valhalla for a beer, pick up some junk in Mechanus, and come back for a drink at the Smouldering Corpse. What the fuck do they care if someone dies? They're either in heaven or easily retrievable.

Wizards do have a sense of right and wrong. But unless you're Lawful/Neutral Good, who cares if your spell arced into a crowd of innocents? Worst case, they survive. Best case, you just sent thirty people to Elysium. Who cares?

This is absolutely true! I didn't mean to excuse players in something like Pathfinder or Shadowrun wildly killing innocents, or argue that every game can be a murderfest. It's just something I came up with after playing the Bard Stronghold quest in BG2. The elf from Sigil was totally cool with his lie getting an innocent wizard (and all his friends) murdered, and that was my headcanon reason why. I was so pissed IC that I walked away without completing the quest.

Definitely not lawful or true neutral, unless they're all vampires and you're playing a Paladin or something. But I could see a Chaotic Good wizard using that excuse to feel better about killing someone wholly evil, or a Chaotic Neutral wizard justifying murder in a really silly game.

They used to but not anymore. Once the stuff got squared away with TheWinterBunny, they left for some time to clean themselves up and really see what they were doing. And to build up their own style once again. (They really did seem remorseful and wanted to change.)

Now they are back and no allegations have been applied to them since.

I don't really follow them so I can't say if this particular piece is off or not. But I just chalk it up to how they do things. Almost all of their stuff is a bit weird (Their eyes for the characters are either soulless or have a thousand yard stare to them) and moving actions are stiff as all can be), so it's nothing really new.

Well as someone who's greened a bit in his time, you should avoid doing it during ded hours--like around now, which sucks because that's when I'm most productive--and sometimes you'll have flops. Just the way it works. Don't let shitposters dictate what you write, but also realize that what you like may just not be super popular. Greentexting is still really good practice and I'd recommend continuing, and especially participating in the 5/5 Greentext Challenge which usually happens twice a week.
