I should of posted this earlier, but I finally got this fucking screen working.

I can move around and that's it. I don't have animation or collision yet. I'm still working out good ways to do it. I'm also going to have to plan out sprite placement because I didn't realize the scale difference between playfield and sprites. While the kernel I'm using allows up to 9 sprites as opposed to the normal 2 the 2600 hardware only allows 2 per line so if I'm not careful it'll be a flickery mess

Even getting the display to work at all was a bit of an ordeal (I just kinda jumped in almost blind), but having the Batari Basic manual pretty much always open while working helps.

anyone here knows if a cintiq13 is worth buying? right now im using a wacom comic i think, the smallest one. so im kinda used to drawing on a small surface. on the other hand i have a 32'' monitor (an old bravia), so i dont know if it will affect me switching to such a small screen
im also a bit worried that the cintiq will screw up my back or something, since i try to keep a perfect posture while on the pc

i mean i could go for the cintiq22, but i think its a bit overkill for a hobby (and my skill level). maybe i should get a bigger intuos pro?

and yes, ive been searching for alternatives, the yoga being a possible candidate. thing is im not exactly tech savvy and i need something thats not a driver nightmare. the parblo and the huion looked good though! even if some reviews are a bit... scary, so to speak

the cheapest surface pro 4 had a nice price till i noticed it didnt include the pen. also it has 4gb ram, idk if thats enough for stuff like clip studio or medibang

ive realized i have no need for resolutions greater than 1080, so i guess that opens up quite a few alternatives. as long as the screen has neat colors and the pen has tilt and stuff ill be happy

so thanks! its nice to know the competition is actually getting closer to wacom and microsoft. the tears of the reviewers will not have been shed in vain. i just want to be sure i wont be one of them heheh

Done! I changed things up a little by using Krita instead of Kolourpaint.
The hardest part definitely had to be trying to figure out how to make a stickman cute. After many options were considered, I tried to go for a sort of bashful "school picture" look and feel.

It's hard to say since everyone improves at different speeds. Also, when you actually do reach that level, you might not even realize it. Some artists hate their own drawings when everyone else thinks it's amazing. Just keep plugging away and don't stop trying to improve.
