I have encountered people that give boring posts or are weak with word-craft but never rude. Never had anyone bother me after I made it clear I wasn't interested.

I think part of it might be that I am never rude or passive aggressive. I only remember getting angry at another one time in all my years. Maybe it's also that my taste in players and characters has healthier people.

If there's one that is universally loved by everyone on 4chan it's smut. It's actually kind of depressing seeing people fail at discussing that in a mostly positive way. I've thrown out a few posts trying to share writing tips. You'd figure learning how to RP better would be the number one discussion discussion since it makes the sex hotter.

Whenever I find someone who can RP better than me in even the smallest details I ask them for advise. You can level up your skill ridiculously fast by swapping tips. One thing I learned is sometimes it's juicier to leave descriptions of the body vague so your imagination can fill in the gaps. Give just enough to get the basic image in their head. Don't need to give the diameter of the boobs or the precious pattern of the furr.

Ok I'll share how to consistently get partners above your skill level. The key is to be willing to play to their fantasies. I don't really play many dedicated characters. I play cannon characters, if you can play someone's waifu, especially an obscure one, they are willing to be very accommodating. I also let or even encourage them to play OCs, mary sues, they don't need to be a cannon guy. I quit literally tell him to make it a power fantasy for himself.

Here is the big kicker though. Be willing to play to play multi characters at once. If you offer a guy an m/f/f 3way he will rarely turn you down.

The basic philosophy is you compensate for your lack of writing skill by being able to give better scenarios. That gets you in bed with people much, much better than you. Than you can see how they type and copy it. If you are giving them wish-fulfillment than they are also much more likely to give you writing tips and mentor you (you need to ask for it though) . The reason is you are giving them something that is very hard for them to get from other RPers. Not only are you playing their waifu but also their waifu's sister. They could spend months searching and not find someone willing to do what you do. It's actually productive forr them to level you up.

The best RPer I ever interacted with has a very plain profile and a low view count. I think fancy profiles are people that treat f-list as their social life. Finding partners is all about economics. Almost everyone has demand for someone willing to play multiple partners but there is very little supply. If you can play multiple partners and have at least decent writing skills you have an INSANE number of potential partners. This means you can be very picky and even set a lot of the terms for the RP. Sometimes I put out an ad in chat get 6 people to choose from!

Should warn you. Playing two characters is really exhausting but the pay off with a decent partner is great. It's like being in the presence of god!

I have reached a point now where I operate almost exclusively with long term multi-paragraph note play. It really feels like this is the height of role playing. World building, character development, and taking the time to do proper word-craft are just new layers of fun added to the smut and fuck.

Not only that but it is incredible practical: much more flexible in terms of when you can reply.

Chat based 2-4 line role play is like microwave popcorn: low skill, taking only 3 minutes to start, but it doesn't satisfy the appetite just holds you over until the next snack. A well crafted 4+ paragraph note is like a full course meal, takes skill and lots of time to prepare but leaves you satisfied for hours.

The egg thing is going to put off a lot of people. So you also need to spell it out whether that is required or just optional.

Basically think about it from the perspective of someone looking for prospects. They need information to make their descion, ideally in as few words as possible since too many words leads to info overlord and than I just skip or skim rather than read.

That's why I try to maintain several multi-para noteplays. I've been experimenting my intake and I think any more than 3 and it's no good. Shifting between different RPs too rapidly gets nausiating and they sort of bleed together and create a brown mess. Like I started typing a reply to a note once and than suddenly realized I was mixing this character's personality with the last character I played.

I think the ideal diet is to maintain 1-3 long term multi-para notes. Aim for about a note a day in each. That's where you get most of your fullness from. The short chats are good to scratch little itches such as specific kinks, boners for cannons, or really casual quickies.

A personal bit of advice from a talented multi-para note player: women RPers, and subs in general for whatever reason seem weak at it. They seem to struggle to consistantly go very high in the paragraph count and are more likely to be unreliable in their reply rate. At least that's my experience. If I play a sub I can get a very dedicated partner much easier than if I play a dom, which is kind of upsetting as domming is really fun!

This whole thread shows people are more interesting in bitching about profiles than actually developing role playing skill.

Whether you have 1 picture or 50 of your character is not going to make much of a difference if you can't write in an entertaining way. A good wordsmith can make a character feel real with no reference images or biographies at all. If you want do advanced stuff like being a GM this skill is mandatory. I might play a dozen characters in the RP and I'm not going to get a reference image for each.

My experience is that both the extremely bad profiles and the extremely good looking ones are rarely more than average If you're good with words, willing to work with your partner's kinks, and polite it's easy to get partners that stick around forever. There is simply no reason to bother working on your profile when you already get everything you want.

I actually am less likely to take someone seriously if it looks like they spent a lot of time on the profile. It might indicate that f-list is a replacment for their social life and those people usually are not very good. What I actually look for as a good profile is how much information they can provide in as few lines as possible. If you can communicate how your character acts, the required kinks, and what you want in 4 lines of plain text that's better than 40 lines of fancy text.

Here is a tip for finding good RPers. You don't always get a chance to do this, but if you do it is more important than all other info combined. What is the person's job and hobbies IRL? If they have a job that requires some degree of intelligence such science or good managment skills (accountant, manager in a company) that's a very good sign. If their hobbies include strategy video games (sign of intelligence), books (teaches wordcraft), or playing DnD (role playing skill) you have a winner. All of these are based on real experiences I had, it's not hypothetical.

If the profile is a book, or at least not a short piece of shit, the chance of getting someone at least somewhat decent is far greater than blank or next-to-nothing profiles. Let's say you spend money on very nice commissions, or scour e621 for dozens of high resolution reference pictures, you learn and experiment with many different fonts and formatting. How does any of that translate into good wordcraft? How does it show you are polite and punctual? The descriptions of the character is a good form of judgement but you can judge someone's writing talent and imagination given only a few lines of text.

My experience has been that the fanciest profiles are only average RPers. The most talented ones, as well as the one's that can write the longest, tend to have short consise profiles. This is escpially true of people that DO want to create epic massive part stories: people that can churn out 5+ paragraph long notes on an almost daily basis Because each role-play is a different story, many times with different character entirely and it's something I create with them spontaneously.

There's two options. Number one: you spend a couple of hours making something you will be using for a huge amount of time. Number two: you don't spend a couple of hours making something good, because you are either too lazy or too incompetent to do so.

Number one shows me that you care about your character, and thus about roleplaying in general. Number two tells me that you didn't even bother to spend an hour or two in the profile editing screen, so you probably can't be trusted to hold a roleplay for any longer than thirty minutes.

You can give anecdotal evidence all you'd like. Fact is, you'll be spending anywhere from twenty to a hundred hours on any single character, potentially far more if you like them a lot. If you can't spare two hours to fix up a decent profile, you go into the trash with the rest of the people that are "good at roleplaying" quoth themselves with no evidence to back that fact up.

Images and properly formatted text show creativity. Two lines of unformatted garbage show that you are as boring as you are ADD-stricken.

Like I said once a profile gets too fancy and expensive looking you've started entering the red zone. It's genuinely someone that is going to demand a lot of excellence on your part but not return it. They will be an average to above average role player but never a great one.

The very best role player is someone who has a specific thing he is passionate about and thus is willing to give 110% effort to get it perfect. Someone that wants to drift around from one partner to partner is always going to be put less effort into each individual RP.

Anecdotal evidence which can be easily refuted with an anecdote in turn. I have personally played with >>11408119 and they were pretty darn good. On the other hand, an objective fact is that most of the human / 3DPD / nigger shitters that consider sexting to be "roleplaying", have little to no profile. Thus, the (far) greater risk of terrible roleplayers lies on your end of the scale, not mine.

I don't care how good you are at roleplaying. If you're too lazy to make a proper profile, you're not seeing play with me. Ever. Nor are you likely to see good play with other proper profiles, with all the "shit profiles" in no category customs.

Bottom line is: don't push your shitty profile-approach here. You can post your characters all you'd like, but the moment you start encouraging people to be a moron like you is the moment you overstep your boundaries. Just because you want to be a special snowflake shitter that can't spend an hour or two to make a nice looking profile doesn't mean the rest of us want to lower ourselves to such a low standard. And lowering standards serves nobody but you, since you seem to like shit so much you revel in it.

I never touch human profiles and I feel like I'm getting strawmanned here. You act like I'm advocating small profiles, that I'm talking about 3D RPers, or that I'm talking about profiles with 2 lines. You are also pulling up conclusions that are ridiculous, like saying I havn't RPed with people that have nice profiles. I have. That's exactly I can reached this conclusion. The best RPs I've had were with people that had small profiles that are informative but short.

Look at this thread. Several people have posted their profile and than improved it from feedback. Their profile got better but their skill stayed the same. All improving your profile does is make it look pretty, I'm not against that. I'm saying it isn't a good indicator of skill. My best RPer never even bothered learning the code for special formating or fonts, he'd rather spend an hour or two being a GM for real life DnD than working on his profile. And doing that actually makes him better at RPing, the profile shit wouldn't do anything.

The best indicator of skill is the indicator the person behind the RP is intelligent. That's why I said jobs and hobbies are the real measurement since that's a good way to measure if a person is intelligent. RPing takes intelligence.

Here's what's silly about my opponenent's position. Right now there are people in this thread posting their profiles and getting critique to make them look nicer. Their wordsmith skills, politeness, and punctuality (the 3 things that matter) all stay the same while their profile gets prettier. Isn't that proof enough that profiles are not a strong indicator of skill?

I see several posts trying to suggest I'm saying fancy profiles are "bad" or you "shouldn't do them". Which is not my position at all. My position is you can do that if it makes you happy but it doesn't improve your role playing skill as a result it is a poor barameter of skill.
