>While they might struggle, there was no way they'd be able to slip free from a fully-secured L.E.A.S.H

>The moment your palms passed by Rex's face, you pressed your fingers down on the trigger hidden under your glove

I noticed some stories here have the main (human) characters decline to speak when they find out they've been transported into a parallel world where humans don't speak, and I can't quite understand why. Whenever this comes up I think it really, really underlines how naive the people on this board are about the world at large. Through that they approach these stories, both as authors and as readers, and expect a world of incredibly diverse sapient species to just bust out the chainsaw the moment something different comes along.

I'm just not sure how people can be this disconnected from the world around them. If a dog just started talking perfect English and was saying things like, "help I don't belong here I have no idea how I wound up on this planet" the abso-fucking-lute last thing people would want to do is slice it's head open. Everyone and their mother would be head over heels trying to help this poor thing because, one, it's a novelty, and two, it's a helpless thing asking for our kindness. We guilt ourselves every goddamn day over shit that's even more inane so something important like this would bring out the caring try-hards like you wouldn't believe. Think of all the celebrities telling us their opinions, charity concerts from top artists, TV, internet, and radio ads from A-list actors, and talk show pundits going on and on and on about it.

Okay, who? Flip it back around to the dog because very few of these stories actually deviate from a direct reversal. I want to know which religious groups out there, or "extremists" of any stripe that you suspect would want to actually kill a talking dog. Muslims might, but wow big surprise there the "religion of peace" is at it again with the bloodlust. Christians would not give a single fuck, the biggest groups would want us to pray, the smaller ones would probably talk about it on Sunday, and the wild fringe ones would have little reason to get involved. A few random animistic religions might have some interest in it, and of course non-denominational doomsday cults might too but it's more than likely they would use the dog as a sign of the end times.

To learn how to make all dogs talk? That's retarded, THIS dog has flat-out said it doesn't know why it's here and that it's not a normal dog.
To find out where it came from? Sure, but if it's biologically identical to all other dogs besides a wildly denser brain or something (easily discovered using non-invasive procedures by the way) then that really doesn't help. Interesting science, of course, but it's just not very useful for the subject at hand.

Interrogation is a given, that would be an inevitable portion of the help process anyway. Since it's a dog it really wouldn't be much of a security threat, just close a door with a slick steel handle and it's effectively trapped forever.

What would more than likely happen is they assign FBI presence to watch the dog/protect it wherever it might end up. Family in Idaho wants to take care of it? Great. Agents will be out front.

While I don't think dissection would actually be the major fear, I do think the government would take the Human in for testing. While people use the dog analogy a lot, due to how Humans are treated in Furryland, they'd be more akin to pet apes or monkeys in terms of biology, given the similarities between Humans and Furries. As for the 'why keep silent' portion of things, I imagine it stems from two different points.

The first is that it's what is commonly done. Typically, the Human stays silent in most other stories, so the obvious answer of what people might want is probably more of the same. While writers do have their own ideas, most also want people to like their stuff, and so they probably stick with what they know is well-liked by people on here.

The other is convenience. When trying to portray an accurate Owner/Pet relationship, it's difficult to place the two parties on the same level intellectually. The moment the Furry and the human can consider themselves equals is the moment the writer then has to grapple with how they'd treat such a shift in the dynamic. Before, the Furry can act as the Owner as they're unaware, and the Human can act as the pet as they want to keep a low-profile or whatever the reason. After the reveal, though? That requires one hell of a shift in story, tone, characters, and more. It requires the writer to really work on maintaining that Owner/Pet dynamic, all while trying to stay true to the characters and how they would reasonably react. One side of the choice of reveal or don't reveal is simply easier than the other, and it lets the writer focus more on what they might want to focus on, rather than shifting the story to be about the reveal.

I suppose it's similar to what it would do to a Batman story if he was revealed to be Bruce Wayne to Gotham. Sure, you still have the Batman dynamic, but now everything has been shifted due to the fact that there's been a huge reveal that everyone is trying to deal with.

Those are my thoughts, at least.

Lets go with the thought that the world then views him as an alien or lost evolved tribe type being, theres no way anyone would be his owner. If a little grey man came and was on earth, they wouldn't be a pet.
