I liked Zootopia (obviously), but i mostly liked it because it was presented so damn well. It was well made with well realized characters and excellent-bordering-on-ridiculous attention to detail that it didnt matter.

I wouldn't say it had a message. I dont think any message that bland and half-assed should count as a message. It didn't really much story at all.

Hell, even the message it did have is sort of embarassing when you think about it. Judy solved most of her problems by asking other people to do things for her - and two times those people were the literal Mafia, who showed their willingness to kill people at the drop of a hat - rather than by showing any ability at police work (and yeah, alright, its sort of hard to show ability at police work on this sort of film, but it being understandable doesnt really make the problem disappear).

Mostly I'd put it down to the fact that they originally had that completely different idea they were working towards that they eventually threw out for being a little too nightmarish (i.e. the shockcollar world that would make Orwell say 'thats a little much').

The flaws of Zootopia - namely the big chunks of it that are weirdly vapid considering it's otherwise extremely high quality - make a lot of sense when you keep in mind it was put together from the pieces of something very different.

Anyway I don't think its out of character, remember what he told Judy? He doesn't let people see that they've gotten to him, now imagine being in an enviroment where people are getting to you all day long and you can't escape like you could if you lived in the city. It'd gnaw at you pretty bad and only get worse the more you hold it in. I'd imagine Nick would scream to let it out and so he could keep going forward.

That...is certainly a different perspective.
I can only remember one story off the top of my head that really went into the difficulties that Nick faced in the Academy, both physically and emotionally, while the rest usually skim over it or have some "Nick was harassed or beaten" extreme flashback to it. And even then, they have Nick being motivated because he wanted to finally be seen as an honest fox/because he LOVES JUDY.

So the idea that Nick questions whether it would be worth it, at all, is a little bit fresh. This is a fox who is used to doing his own thing, making his own hours, for years, suddenly being put into this environment where there is little escape from peers who most likely don't trust him, and Nick knows they have every single legitimate reason not to?

I kind of disagree with the whole "just to have a friend who trusts him" bit; Judy is certainly a big part of Nick turning over a new leaf, but there are definitely other factors. I kind of wish that was more focused on at times, because often when Nick and Judy have a falling out in fiction Nick goes "Maybe I should quit the ZPD..." as if Judy was the ONLY reason he was there.

I mean I guess that's one interpretation, but really Nick could still be with Judy even if he wasn't a cop. Hell, he'd have an easier time since they'd have no problem of relationships within the force and whatnot.

That scene and the bridge scene seem to just change views on how people interpret Nick's motivations; tending to make him someone that is reliant on his relationship to Judy for happiness, which is really unhealthy.

The story is "Stars", which is a series of emails and text chats between Nick and Judy while he is in the academy. Judy deals with a case without Nick, and Nick deals with a class that is about a decade younger than him and still hold some prejudice against foxes.

During the story, there was an interview mentioned that every cadet gets, and they are asked "why do you want to join the ZPD?" Nick jokes for most of the fic about his reasons, but at some point he tells Judy his real reason;

I really can't see it; just like how everyone says that Nick couldn't really fall for anyone else after everything he has been through with Judy, the same goes with her falling for anyone else, it just doesn't seem right, especially Gideon.

Nick was the one who first showed her foxes aren't all bad, even if they had a rocky start. He gave her practically another day to solve the case and save her job, followed her into situations no civilian should have been in, forgave her after everything, and followed her again into life and death situations. Finally, he agreed to be her partner, and changed his life around partially because she asked.

Compared to that, any love triangle where Nick actually has to compete with Gideon of all characters is laughable. Why would Judy go with Gideon if Nick is an option? If you really want even the idea of Judeon, Nick pretty much as to be out of the picture, happy with someone else.

The trick is if you're playing a game that has no real ending, like Counter-strike or Overwatch you're naturally going to feel compelled to play as it's just a quick match. You need to try and play something that will give you a proper experience so that way, though you're playing games you will feel like you've accomplished something instead of putting X amount of hours into whatever it is you've played.

I'd recommend devoting a day out of the week to doing what you want. Instead of wanting to do several, devote entire days to doing nothing but a specific thing. One day for gaming, the other for 4Chan, a day for cleaning, so forth.
