I have no inspiration. I have a story, I know how I want it to end but it's not really coming together. It's not that the events a leading up to the point are not good enough, but that final ending scene. I still want the characters to say something to make the readers know the true message of that story, but it would be emotionally far superior and more logical to not say anything.

It is a very hard choice as a writer to know when not to pull the strings of the characters and let them be themselves. I don't want to become borba with using the characters as puppets and putting soapopera dialogue into their mouths... but I'm afraid people won't really get the meaning behind the things that are going on without it, speaking from past experience. Borba's writing is dumb... and people like it... because people are dumb.... do I want to make something popular... or something that I am proud of?

If it's good and meaningful and has a nice experience, then people will enjoy it. If it can do that while also appealing to a lot of people, all the better. The people who make the bad stories or comics are playing to the specific heartstrings of a specific demographic. Being able to cater to them is definitely a skill, but if you are a better writer or artist than them, there should be some way to capture that portion of the audience who want stuff to read and to deliver a message that will be impactful.

Personally, my interest in the story immediately dropped after he was introduced. It started going into a preditable route; Judy will continue to ignore what she feels about Nick and focus on dating the new buck. At some point Nick will find out, feel hurt and betrayed, and this will cause a rift between them. Nick will investigate Happy Town on his own once he is recovered enough, will get hurt again, Judy will feel horrible, someone will smack sense into them, "Oh Nick I am sorry for not talking to you about anything, I love you." kiss, WildeHopps end.

Like every single other fanfiction before it, because we have to have Judy interested in some buck and hurting Nick before we see them get together.

It may seem extremely hypocritical with the image I am posting, but those "oh no it's only OCs" it is pretty blatantly a lie.
C'mon, you just need to see the requests and the output. Canon characters are still a giant part. There is still some discussions about the film and there is still worldbuilding. Obviously less than when the movie just exited, but it is still present. It is in no way "furry general".
But I am repeating myself. I said the SAME exact thing some months ago, same situation, same lamenting. This can tell you of how much variation the threads had in this time.

It sucks when you feel nostalgic, and when people are sad they wish things could be like things were. But the good news is there's 200-300 people (including lurkers who never post) who visit the threads, some near 100 who are active participants every day. There are tons of people who love discussing canon characters and OC stories, and attention isn't taken away when its given to something else-- the threads move at a speed where you can talk through multiple chains at once.

Going off of private read throughs, there are tons of canon character works coming (no spoilers!) and Nick and Judy take the majority of TT stories made for the thread. Everyone can talk about awesome OCs and awesome AUs and awesome ideas and find an audience.
