I was just enjoying a bottle of Zoo Coke and listening to the latest Michael Catson songs on my tapedeck when I heard that you were all getting ready to put on your Members Only jackets and something something Woodstock Falkland Islands Star Wars Soviet Bloc! You all know what I'm talking about, right, fellow Me-Firsters?

... Okay, I was, like, four years old when it was the 80s. I don't know too much about what happened then.

But that's why I'm excited to see what everyone's made for this TT! I'm pretty new to this genre outside of parodies and callbacks, and can't wait to see what you all think defines a true 80's style of Zootopia!

The unintentional copycats
Chilly knew about Wolter and Anneke, but made them aardwolves and twins anyway because he thought that they looked creepy. I'm not saying he's a terrible person, I'm saying he should have known people would make the connection and use the difference species, especially if the only criteria for them being aardwolves is that they're creepy looking.
Really, it's not an issue with twins or species at all, it's just making a character and thinking about why they are the way they are. Why are they twins, why are they the species they are, how does that reflect on their character, all the things that show you put thought into the story, otherwise you can swap them for any species or relationship or just for humans

It depends on how ambitious I want a given story to be, and it's also changed over time.

I've never been the type to write on the fly. For my earliest stories, back when I started - and for short stories these days - I'll do a few paragraphs of outline with the major plot points and arc details, and write it out from there.

Now, for a big story like this one, I'll have a whole damn set of linked, nested spreadsheets. I'm getting more ambitious with my plots, adding b-plots and more arcs, and bouncing them off each other. In Cause and Contract, I have pages for the main investigation, the wildehopps, the supporting characters, the industry backstory etc.

It's a lot of organization for fanfiction, but I like lists and I really like doing my research to nail my setting and tone. It helps turn OCs into full characters and tie up loose ends, and make the world seem more alive.
