I like the idea of sci-fi, but for some reason, I'm always disappointed with how it's handled. Most furry sci-fi I've read on the internet that's of a short form just doesn't feel right. Every time I just end up wondering why someone decided to set something on a "ship in outer space" when they never set down on a planet, have to deal with conditions that one would expect from being on a ship, don't take advantage of advanced tech, don't meet any weird creatures, etc. I've seen this several times, and it just makes me wonder why the author made "sci-fi" and then ripped out all the fun parts.

I suspect it's because you can't have the popular "standard" anthro if you give the rest of your setting and story some thought. The anthros would also have to be more realistic, optimized, or sensible. Many furries actually aren't far enough down the rabbit hole to fap to the result, and want to prioritize sexy.
