I think the sameface issue with Nuzzo's art comes from the fact that most of their pics are Your Character Here pics, which means they're all going to end up having a kind of samey generic look to them.

I am not going to fault an artist for doing what's profitable, however there's really two schools of thought when it comes to monetizing yourself-- you can go the wholesale route like Patreon where you put out a variety of content and / or popular characters that will appeal to your audience, or you can take the retail route, drawing people's OCs on commission. Both can potentially be lucrative opportunities, however I'm of the opinion that artists shouldn't over-prioritize the retail approach. It's great to be able to make a lot of money off of an individual drawing, but commissions don't help you as much as a brand if you are trying to get a following, especially if the OCs you're getting commissioned to draw are shit.

I have traced before. Offsetting like this is super easy. Any digital painting program will have tools drawing with the cursor and it drawing a set distance away, or simply tracing on another layer then moving it over. It's all vector, so I can smooth out lines and all that stuff. It's just draw, tweek, draw, tweek.

Besides the obvious reasons of the tracing looking too uncanny or off, the reason why it's not good to rely on it is because it's pretty much a crutch for bad artists. They make this "beautiful" artwork that suckers fall for, but then when they're asked to make something original, outside of their comfort zone, or just something they can't easily steal from a google search (because of the pose or body type being requested) it exposes them for being hacks.

Just practice doing real, freehand stuff. If you reinforce bad habits too much you'll just stagnate as an artist.
