Well, in terms of being the best member of the Crystal Gems, she is, though I think her character needs more work, I agree. The problem lies in the fact that she doesn't have a lot of problems, and in stories, characters are interesting because they have flaws and the like and they try to solve throughout the story. Garnet basically accomplished this already. Here's hoping we get a spin-off that focus on her early years as a Crystal Gem, I'll like a comic of this for sure.

This is actually the perfect setup to a Pearl arc.
Pearl acts like a child. She hurts people out of selfishness, and when she's called out, she cries and makes it about herself and everyone forgives her and tells her she dindu nuffin, because they have to live with Pearl, and she'd probably mope for years if they don't just give her what she wants.
None of that shit would work with Mystery Girl, who doesn't have to live with Pearl or go on missions with her. Pearl would have to actually be an adult and face the fact that she thwarted her own chance of getting some thicc pink pussy and no amount of crying can fix it.

I wonder how many times each character has cried on the show. It was a a bit irksome during season 4, then I realised it was mostly Steven and Pearl, the two most emotionally damaged/challenged characters. Sometimes it does feel like there's a quota for crying, but at least it's specific and not applicable to every character. That's when SU would become a parody of itself. Other than that, the only thing that slightly annoys me is the proportions stuff, but with Raven and Zuke gone and the boarder teams switching up there's gonna be a noticable improvement in animation quality. The episodes from the last two bombs (Doug Out and Are You My Dad? aside) have all looked top notch.

Zuke's art was usually on point. She didn't fuck up proportions nearly as badly as the other storyboarders, and her boards only ever looked bad when she was doing something wrong on purpose.
Perfect example here. Lapis's body looks great, but her face and hair make her look like a totally different character.

Nadorite fits Pearl's theme of multicolored fusions, so I hope it's canon.

I find making anything the same size in drawings is pretty difficult. There's also the fact that you are more sensitive to mistakes in your art than anyone else, since you can clearly see the awesome vision inside your head which art will never line up with. Avoiding straight-on angles will allow perspective to hide slight size/shape differences. In any case, you can just copy+paste the first tit onto a new layer, flip horizontally, and use it as a sketch layer to draw the second.
