After listening to the making of, I'm even more impressed with the end result. You gritted your teeth and you finished it, in a fandom that's full of unfinished projects.

And I know lots of us are perfectionists about our own work, but know the minor things you weren't happy about were things that never even occurred to me as I was listening. We are our own worst critic and you really did put out a quality piece.

While it was interesting to hear all the ups and downs with the production, what really stuck out was the issues you had with music, and how you reflected on it, handled it, and solved it.

I never got the hate.
First, it always baffled me when people would say "$5 cup of coffee".
Lattes and fancy stuff was $5, a cup of coffee was between $2 and $3.
And as long as the baristas did their damn jobs, it should always be fresh and properly brewed (once again, former supervisor, and a bit of a hardass on quality control).
Espresso drinks are always a crapshoot, though. Some folks are just terrible at it.
Never trusted anyone except myself to make my lattes.

Finishing is definitely the hardest and most rewarding part of any creative endeavor. I hope everyone can find the temerity to reach their goals, and that the people here can help them along-- I certainly got a ton of motivation from the threads to finish.

Its always the most minor things that stand out, isn't it? I think its because the creator is so familiar with every little bit of the work-- I listened to the piece probably a hundred times, so I can always hear the little static beginning when certain soundtracks play, or when I held back a second too late for a word! I'm sure that's the same with everyone!

The music was definitely a trek, but in the end, I'm so happy it worked out the way it did. I still hum the Hamhock jingle in my head...

Thank you to pieces for the wonderful drawing! I thought it was super funny, and was glad the rest of the thread liked it too! I always look forward to seeing your beautiful Zoots, buddy!

Seeing the cover, I almost feel annoyed that Nick and Judy are in it. The picture has no priority at all with what it wants to present; if the story is focused on Nick and Judy, it could have just been the scope taking up most of the screen and them being reflected in the glass, showing they are being hunted or whatever the plot will eventually devolve into.

Instead we get generic poses of random OCs, and the main characters basically tiny specs. The only reason we even know they are the main characters is because we already know who they are.

It reminds me of Rem and aoimotion constantly jerking over their OCs who haven't even shown up in the main comic.

That reminds me, Tumblr recently recommended a blog to me that was photo comics of Nick and Judy dolls and they did a version of this comic.
Only it wasn't as funny and Judy's "we're gonna solve ALL the crime" bit was punctuated with cartoonishly large eyes made of paper taped to the doll's eyes.

I think they also then recycled the joke again in another post by posing the Judy doll on an artillery cannon with the same line.

I would have an easier time suspending my disbelief in this story if either Nick or Judy were in-character enough to stay professional on the clock.

I give something like late stake more of a pass because it's porn. This is getting played straight, so the drama feels out of place and forced.

This is not RL this is a cartoon world. Rules are less strict, who says zootopia police wires the cars the same way we do? There is no evidence to it in the movie, so it's free game.

This RL-Zootopia comparisons are really bad type of nitpicking omo. The dialogue and plot is acceptable, the art is fine, overall the comic is enjoyable. This is the good kind of drama, not "I will vomit in my mouth" where an artist polishes his own ego about how deep and meaningful it is what he is going to present (while using character that don't belong to him)

I do agree with this, at least concerning the press conference. There is a degree of cartoon logic we have to accept with Zootopia; unless you want to rewrite from the beginning, the idea is to have the "hero cop" speak and bring more attention to the MII, when IRL they would still have had them trained first.

Though I have to say there is still a limit to the cartoon logic, specifically the scene where Judy threatens Mr. Big. No back up, no one knows where she is, what makes her think talking back to a mob boss in his own home is even remotely a good idea?

Tell you what, I know all the security so let me just go backstage and I'll come out on stage with Gazelle." He disappears into the crowd headed towards the back stage area. Sure enough, half an hour later Nick emerges with Gazelle for her opening number, but by the time Nick returns, he finds that Judy has fainted and is being brought around by paramedics. Making his way to Judy's side, Nick asks her, "What happened?" Judy looks up and says, "It was the final straw... you and Gazelle came out on to the stage and the mammal next to me said, 'Who the heck is that on the stage with Nick?'"

The Sloshed Fox won a bitter battle gainst Burrow Sharing Policy, and he decided to do The Neighbor's Toy too because he liked the idea. The loss of BSP kind of became a meme, fueled by this one-off he might have drawn before the poll, or soon afterwards I guess. Anyway, months later Weaver decided to do BSP after seeing our poor aching hearts. Except it morphed into... something different. And it's still unfinished.

Oh, definitely agree Yitexity's art is getting better with each frame.

I also agree with >>10669186 that the dialogue is good, especially compared to "premeditated sin" or the awkward high school encounters in something like Black Jack.

Plot and character decisions, however, would be average at best even if this was exclusively a wildehopps story. Awkward encounters while they go over a crime scene, okay. They don't know how the other feels yet. But the entire thing with the senior officer and the list of google searches? Really? Nick wouldn't act like that in the first place, IMO, and I doubt Judy would immediately sign out a patrol car to go talk it over on their way to the next assignment. But hey, at least they're trying to talk it over.

Except it's not exclusively a wildehopps story. That whole side of the comic seems to be just setup or sideshow for some secret government military drama about desertions and savage behavior and small-team special operations OCs. That's what some people like, sure, but for me it's sliding pretty quickly away from the relatively light and whimsical tone that made Zootopia special, and toward furries with guns and also look! your favorite wildehopps! Get invested in this story, please!

Honestly I really can't comment much on the military story. The art is not great during this time and this type of story doesn't interest me, so I skimmed most of it. Not everyone's cup of tea and that's okay. Heck I still fast forward through the stampede scene in the Lion King.

I think people took a lot of offense during the google search scene, because Nick was humiliated, and also because it was unprofessional of his superior to confront him the way he did, especially in front of Judy.

I know people didnt like the idea of Nick being caught and embarrassed like that, but hey, he was born in the 80s and it's possible he's not advanced enough in technology to cover his tracks. My brother who's 33 can barely open email. Nick does make mistakes and gets caught, just like how Judy trapped him with tax evasion, just like how he got into Big's clutches again.

Personally I think how Nick acted during the scene and after, was well done.

The superior calling him out in front of Judy was not cool and would never fly in the real world but thAts the real world. Like some another anon said, Judy would have never been able to start a race war during the press event. She would have been coached and would have had a prior written statement etc etc. Just like you can't make deals with your boss and stake your career in case you fail.

It's all to put them in a certain position, to forward the plot.

It's fine if you don't like it, but I think what another anon said, about everyone being quick to complain about the story "that could never happen!" or characters "she would never do that!" is getting extreme.
