Skreetz the Rat here, To Tame a Human is still in production, yet I did absolutely nothing when it comes to the updates. While the next update is basically already thought out, writing takes some time, which I don't have now.

However as a heads-up I will do an update in the next month and I will try to be more productive the month afterwards, since that's when my working season ends (till Christmas, don't expect a signle update from November till January.)
If you want to expect an update, be advised that I'll be unable to write one at least until
9th of august.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! As for the specific type, yeah, I noticed that tends to be a pretty popular theme around here. I can't deny that I think I prefer ones where Master and Pet are a bit closer to equals, like with "The New Normal", though ones like "Mean Dog", where there's literally a language barrier are pretty fun as well.

I'm thinking about the next part of mine being Rox and anon/you going to the store, so that'll have some leashes and other owners and pets interacting, so there'll be a touch more 'acting like an animal' there, at least!

Yeah, I can certainly understand that feeling. I suppose I liken it somewhat to seeing eye dogs, or dogs/pets that have been trained to be able to do tasks for their owners. They're not allowed to do everything, but they can help out in their ways, much to the delight of their owners. The owners also treat them like pets, in terms of praising them and calling them 'good boy' and taking them for walk and the like, though I suppose as soon as you throw in a mutual intelligence, that drifts over to the slave/maid side of things. With no offense to any of the writers, as I honestly enjoy the stories, I do feel that there's a certain..samey trope they can fall into. For example,

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty you can do with the set-up, as shown in "Allergy Anon" and "Scalie PoFG" and "Mean Dog" to use it again as an example, I suppose I just wanted to go with something different that fits my tastes a little more, while sticking, as best it can, to the 'Pet' themes.

Well, while your human can't respond in the same way you or I can, it has been shown that they do listen, and can understand emotions, or at least body language, to a certain degree. You might try talking to your human, expressing your issues, just venting in general. The human won't judge you or be perturbed by what you have to say, unlike some one else, and so you should feel safe to be yourself around them.

Humans are also affectionate creatures, and will typically be more than happy to cuddle with you, or desire your affections and attention. If they try to get you to play with them, throwing a ball or rolling a toy around, give it a try. Studies have found that increased activity can relax the mind and release chemicals in the brain that will increase happiness, typically. At the very least, it gets you up and doing something, and your pet will love you all the more for it.

If nothing of the above works, either in terms of relaxing you, or cheering you, and you desire furred companionship, you may try taking your human to a human park. It will get you outside, and it will make them happy, and on top of that, other people will typically take interest in your human, and you as well, becoming happy to talk to you. While it can be difficult, communication and community can help to support a person more than they may know.

I think some people have their preferences but thread contributions are always appreciated and you've shown you have a good understanding of the appeal of the setting, so it's probably not a big deal. It is in fact very slave and master, but just in the small bit you wrote there's a definite feeling that Anon is lower than a regular citizen. He's cherished, and he can talk and be expected to do a lot more than, say, a dog, but I still feel like he's believably a pet so far.

I think the shared language plot choice is largely unpaved right now, so it's good that you're writing this. What you described >>10804192 here with the tropes is very true (though we have more of an issue with starting at a human adoption center, but I digress), and being well read and side stepping the same issues sets this apart in a good way so far.

As long as it's an appealing relationship to read about, there's no reason to not be a little creative and go beyond exactly parodying how we treat pets. I personally enjoyed "The New Normal" quite a bit and would go for more stories in a fresh setting like that.

As an aside, interested in how he is no longer an animal, as he says it. It sounds like this isn't Anon from earth but rather a dumb human made smarter through science or something. Dunno if that's what you're after.

I guess I can go into it. I just don't like talking grammar on 4chan because some things really require large blog posts.

Nearly of the lines on block 8 are introductory participle phrase structures. A participle phrase is a fragment that modifies the main noun of the sentence. Example: >Withdrawing his blade (participle phrase), + the swordsman struck (main clause).
The main clause here is a simple, yet correct sentence about a swordsman attacking, and the participle phrase simply modifies 'the swordsman'. A participle phrase is always fragment that can't stand on it's own. Your block 8 has 3 out of 4 using this structure, and the one exception is also a 'You verbed' sentence anyhow. It's immediately obvious to the reader that SOMETHING feels strange about it. This is the cause. You have an understanding of grammar beyond most new writers, so keeping this structure issue in mind, you should be okay now. Just try to vary the sentences more. Don't be afraid to use objects in the environment as the main noun to avoid 'you verbed' over and over again. A lot of writers use introductory participle because at some level they recognize starting every sentence with 'You' feels wrong, but this is the wrong way to deal with that, as it doesn't actually stop the issue.

I don't mind that you have a world setting behind this but you shouldn't respond to comment or critique with exposition that your story doesn't also provide. It's a bad habit in general. In your case, it's not even necessary you explain for the story to make sense and still be enjoyable. Let the information come naturally through the story.

You know, usually when I see massive prompts I expect something overly elaborate where the appeal isn't clear to anyone but the prompt maker. This is... actually a really good idea. It builds off something I already feel has a lot of appeal—Tarzan (I'm specifically thinking of the last Disney iteration). But then it goes further by adding the furry anthro species clash thing. And then it adds sex. Jane and Tarzan sort of, two world colliding is a really exciting premise, especially if the furry females are way out of their element. It wouldn't be nearly as fun if Anon was taken from the jungle and shown off in furry England.

It is, however, expansive. It's hard for even veteran writers to work up motivation to do their own ideas and this really would take skill and patience to get right. I think that may be the biggest flaw here, despite it being pretty damn appealing.

I'm not sure what I'd personally change. Maybe I'd just tweak pacing between things going south and meeting the human. Make it quick to we get to the cute interactions. It could use an overarching plot too, like a Clayton who wants to capture humans for sex slavery or something.
