it's a total crapshoot who gets picked and dollanon's frankly, was a casualty of that

it helps to basically draw in a manner that takes less filesize (limited colours) and in a smaller resolution (which also helps with filesize)

the collage pictures aren't compressed or resized at all

Thanks for hanging. I use 20 billion layers to help organize myself, but once things get to shading, there will be lots of disorganization. I have yet to figure out a workflow for it.
I listen to so many unrelated genres haha. It's not a playlist, just a bunch of albums from the top of my head.
Synthwave - Mogi Grumbles - Fract OSC soundtrack (really good exploration/puzzle game yall should play it)
Chiptune - Wyatt Croucher - Orbama

the two ideas i've been juggling around are either a Yie Ar Kung Fu style boss rush or a roguelite. Basically choosing between doing loads of animation or loads of coding.

I was gonna do a writeup of how to easily do lossless WEBM encoding so yall don't have to use dumb GIF, but I just tried uploading a test file. Apparently, 4chan doesn't allow uploading of VP9 WEBM encoding, only VP8.

After the game i was working on turned out to be irreparably broken on a fundamental level I came up with a new plan. Make a game comprised of several tiny games.. Pretty much like one of those Game & Watch collections for Game Boy. So much in fact I'm starting with a clone of Helmet.

I'm still looking into ways to generate mazes in Fusion 2.5, this is a thing I'm doing in Construct 2. Basically this is both an art and "coding" exercise. Both aiming to improve my animation and seeing how much I can squeeze into Construct 2 Free's limits.
It's why the player is the only thing that's not a placeholder.

your sketches have an really nice sense of dynamism, especially for someone who apparently hasn't been drawing for a long time. have you done a lot of gesture drawing or something?

no sketch, but pic related is a version with all the detail layers hidden. (except for one where I started painting detail on the base layer without realizing it.) my dirty little secret is that I've been blatantly copying a photo, so I just went straight to painting. I wanted a "believable" scene, so I decided not to risk constructing it myself. even then, landscape scenes do tend to be the kind of thing I don't usually need to sketch first, since there are a lot of "organic" shapes (hills, etc.) that let you wing it when it comes to perspective.

my painting strategy is to start blocking in forms with flat color, and then build details on top of them on separate layers. the separate layers probably aren't really necessary; I just tend to use a lot just in case something goes wrong, especially since the program I use has an annoyingly small undo stack (I love everything else about it so I just put up with that flaw). doing things that way lets me "feel" my way through it and build up from vague, general forms to something that looks correct.

it's a little more specific than that, it's usually a kind of life drawing where you're focused less on reproducing anatomy and more on capturing the "gesture" of a pose. it sounds like something similar ("characters doing stuff") is part of your process, though.

yeah, I agree, it's just referencing something heavily. I wasn't being serious when I called it a "dirty little secret", I have no qualms with using shortcuts and tricks when it makes the end result better

nah, the program's just still in beta, I expect the dev will increase the undo stack size eventually, or make it configurable. plenty of undo abuse is still possible anyway, I think the current limit is something like 20 steps

it's not free but it does have a free trial. It's a little pricey, even at 50% off, but for my purposes it was worth the money (I do wish it had a binary tool though, someday I need to put together a list of feature requests to send to the dev)

if you're looking for a good freeware program, try krita, it's free and open source. It has a lot of features, but eventually I stopped using it because it was performing poorly for me when working at very high resolutions. Still pretty good overall, though.

Paint.NET is another good freeware option (although it's a bit simpler).

seriously though, try checking the options and see if you can disable the antialiasing. i have medibang paint on my phone, which is free and has a ton of functions, brushes, etc. but no binary brush. until i found the antialising box. i left it unchecked and done, pixelated brushes! not as good as a dedicated brush, but its something

pretty much the only reason I use Construct 2 is because it's what I'm used to. I used Fusion 2 for a high school class, but the license expired so I moved to the nearest free thing before getting Fusion 2.5 in a Humble Bundle a few months ago.

I do have Game Maker Studio (also from a Humble Bundle) but I have next to no experience with it.

With Unity I just feel it's a bit overkill for the really simplistic arcade-style stuff I make. I was going to pick it up when Daggerfall Unity is fully playable so I can try my hand at making a mobile/Google Cardboard port.

The movement is a lot like a Game and Watch game, where it jumps positions but every position has it's own unique animation so I can post the animations separately.

(The frame timing is a bit off because of how EZGif handles delay between frames)
