I'd rather people be forward than avoidant, to be honest. Rejection sucks, but as long as the artist isn't an asshole about it I can leave it from there. Zahkey gave me a fairly civil rejection and I can respect the guy for it.

Another artist whose name I can't remember was kind of a douche. For starters, I asked a simple question about whether or not he'll take an idea giving an EXACT runthrough of what I wanted to pay him for and he agreed. Then upon showing the idea I had in mind, he had a bit of a kneejerk reaction as he was turning it down. Some of his language came off as unnecessarily glib or insulting and he even gave me contradictory statements like "I don't need the money" while suggesting alternative ideas I could pitch to him along the way.

The takeaway is to keep a cool and objective head, kneejerk reactions while rejecting something probably isn't the best way to go about it. Artists expressing boundaries isn't always gonna be met with the highest regards, I get that but don't give up on common sense just because some have no respect for it.

I moved on from Sonic, I still do a couple pictures every now and then but dedicating to Sonic alone was as I put it in my inkbunny Retirement announcement ''a living hell'', since then I improved dramatically but no matter if I draw like Frank fucking Frazetta, they'll nitpick about anything.

One of my most recent pictures being described by one of them as if I ''photoshopped her head onto a generic stock model'', because despite everything this is what I get/deserve for drawing Sonic. I once took that as a compliment, almost as if when an animator does a shot and people imply that he used rotoscoping, but the guy was upset enough by it he felt like mentioning this twice.
