If anything the remaster for RvB BGC should have been a far harder undertaking than remaster RWBY would. They basically had to redo almost everything in Halo Custom Edition and Halo 2 Vista with free cam and in house mods to allow things usually restricted by the engine

Ok, let's just go over one example of why this is stupid

To recreate the first scene of RvB episode 1, with Grif and Simmons talking on the base, they'd need someone to load up Halo on an Xbox, have a controller to record the perspective from and use 2 other controllers to bob the characters' heads a few times. After that process, which would take about 20 minutes at maximum, they'd just need to edit it together.

If they were animating that same scene themselves, they'd need to composite the scene themselves with character models, geometry models and a background (all of which takes time and costs money) set up the mocap studio and do all the movements, take that recorded mocap and put it into maya over the character models and then carefully animate that mocap to work correctly (since mocap doesn't produce perfect animation) and then render that entire scene, which could take between a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the scene and the power of the rendering machine (this process takes several hours at a minimum for the same results as half an hour of machinimating). All this while all those exact same resources are needed by the main team producing the current volume and racing against their deadlines (that they struggle to meet as it is)

This couldn't be farther from the truth. besides the minor frustration of timing those head bobs perfectly with dialog as well as the character's body language and actions, there was also the fact that you couldn't actually get multiple player characters from different team, or in the case of RvB free-for-all, in the same vehicle.
This required them to record footage in multiple game modes across multiple Xbox's and stitch it all together. And when jumping across multiple game modes you had to make sure that the characters were back in the exact same location standing the same way with the same weapons
Like when Caboose gave Donut the flag, only those 2 are ever in scenes with it at the same time because they were wearing red and blue armour since those are the only colours characters wear in CTF mode. Despite this they were working a scene around this with multiple characters all wearing different armour

And keep in mind all of this was done in 2003 by a handful of drunks using fucking iMovie, versus a professional team with hundreds of employees with plenty of resources and a much larger budget

So is it just me, or this is going to be the show that replaces RWBY? I just can't shake this feeling. Ever since Monty's death, there's been a taint over RWBY. Creating Gen:Lock as a "RWBY 2" allows them to start fresh again while keeping them in a niche market.

Why spread an animation department that, to this day, still delivers episodes of RWBY by the skin of their teeth, even thinner? Couldn't this time, effort and resources be used to make RWBY better?

The people who have reviewed what it's like to work at RT say that they always working on a very tight schedule. Plus the bad planning, and working on things just moments before airing isn't helping either. They can't wait for some guy on the other side of the world or country to render his videos and send them over. I think people are mixing up choreographic creativity with actual animation skill.

Monty was a decent animator; he himself said that there are a lot of better animators out there. What Monty WAS good at was coming up with ideas for entertaining fight scenes and dances, because of his love for kung-fu movies and dancing. Did a lot of his animations have some physics/clipping errors?(A lot of this was due to his persistence on using Poser, and animating speed being his top priority over making an animation as polished as possible) Hell yes, but they were also fun to watch. People liked his ideas, which is why Dead Fantasy and Haloid were such big hits, and why he was hired as a combat designer for Afro Samurai. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmI-bMMVtBE

Hopefully RT will get someone who's as creative as he was, otherwise the fights in RWBY will continue to be lackluster. Qrow vs Tyrian was pretty good though so maybe there is hope.

To me the problem with the giant grimm fights is that everything felt extremely floaty. Everyone was dashing as if they could fly now; Ruby changing directions mid-flight especially triggered me. Then there was stuff like bullets curving (Nora's grenade launcher shots). It seemed like they were trying to go for Monty's style but they exaggerated the wrong aspects and it came off really bad.

Monty didn't story board stuff and it shows. Especially in the way beats and moves flow into one another.

A lot of his animation errors were the result of him not thinking past the next move and suddenly finding himself in a position where the character is in an anatomically impossible position.

Also a personal gripe he had not a lot of variety in selection of techniques to show off.

Ruby can change direction in mid-air because of her Semblance. But other characters should not do that. But you're right though. They need to cut down on the characters "flying", hovering in mid-air and changing direction. There is also to much running on walls, like Winter when she fought Qrow, and team RWBY bouncing from rock to rock when the Nevermore shattered the bridge. The characters need to have weight, mass, and be affected by gravity. Qrow for example swings his giant sword as if he is wielding nothing but an empty hand.

The build up for the Nuck was great. RT did a good job there. But the execution was terrible. Once Ren saw Nora's panties, I knew they were going to make it.
