I don't understand the dislike of Gideon. Yes some people do some disgusting, distasteful things with his character in fanworks but that's true of any character. Granted he was a bully yes but he showed remorse for his actions years later, sought help to deal with his problems, and started a small business in his home town which turned out to be a success.

personally i dont have a huge problem with judeon unless you're trying to justify it plot-wise, half of the pairings i ship are just based on "they look cute together" and not much else

Nick gave up since he felt fighting wasn't worth, after undergoing countless years of emotional abuse by people that he trusted and normal strangers that he didn't do anything to. Only when someone extended a helping hand did he finally feel that someone wanted him to do good.

While I will admit that Gideon was able to turn his life around, and that is impressive, we still don't know how that came to be in the first place. It is much, much more likely that, instead of Gideon himself seeking to deal with his problems, he was forced into therapy once his bullying got him into serious trouble. From there, Gideon could realize his issues, and works to make something honest of himself with the help of the doctor and possibly family and some friends.

Nick, on the other hand, we know seems to have only had the support of his mother, and all but said outright they were not doing well money wise. Nick never seemed to be the bullying type, instead using his wits to get money in a way that most mammals would not even realize they were had. He continues on this path for most of his life, and never chooses to change because A) once it becomes a pattern/habit that doesn't hurt him, why change it? B) we saw just how much prejudice he faced on a daily basis; from nearly being ran over and the driver doesn't care, to the chief of police refusing to take his word

That's more on the fan's work than Gideon's actual character. Any poor artist or writer can make an ass out of any character. Sticking Gideon in Jack's place and pulling it off poorly reflects more on the creator rather than the character. Jack doesn't get much leeway given he is pretty much a fan character but we do have a canon reference for Gideon, which really isn't all that bad but nothing special overall. Nick's only crime was complacency as, to what we know, he was perfectly content to scam and hustle not seeking gainful employment anywhere or bettering himself through education or. Nick didn't do that, Big did that. Nick just sold him a rug, it was Big's decision on what to do with it. Big clearly knew what it was before he used it; Nick was kicked out because of what he did, but Big had to update him on what happened with it.

But did Gideon really not give up? I still say this again, him being able to turn his life around IS impressive, don't get me wrong, but it is obvious he got therapy for one reason or another. Maybe he had given up like Nick, and continued to be a bully until something serious happened to force him into therapy. Maybe something happened to where Gideon realized just how horrible he was being, and got help. Either way, he got help for his anger issues. It was either that, or continue to let his rage control him and eventually do something serious enough to land him in jail.

Nick, on the other hand, tried to be a good person at the very least up until the scouts, and then he was showed how people viewed foxes. If Nick ever tried to be a good person after that, we know how that would most likely end up. Once he gets into the habit of hustling, it was probably something that would be hard to break; after all, why try to gain employment or education (though obviously Nick seems to taught himself quite a bit about business and people skills) when he was most likely going to face discrimination? It is definitely a character flaw for Nick, he let himself be controlled by stereotypes, but his situation was much different than Gideon's.

Gideon obviously had support, Nick didn't.

I liked Gideon when I watched the movie. I started hating him because of the fandom.

Not even Judeon stuff was the problem. I found that kinda charming, but I was already a bit burned from seeing weird Hoppshauser and BogoHopps. The problem was the, everything else. I mean every boogeyman story from people about furries is amplified a thousand with poor Gid. Other characters have weird stuff, yeah, but the majority feels somewhat cute and safe. Even Gideon safe stuff have this looming "vore/paw/feeding/etc" aura.
