The drag marks on the floor going into the door - you wouldn't drag a body through a door in that direction. You'd push the door open and drag it more or less straight in, then kick or push the door closed behind you. So there might be some mess going around the nearest corner, maybe, but you wouldn't go at an angle like that.

I get where you're coming from in regards to fanfics which go to ridiculous lengths to get Nick and Judy together or just take their reciprocal infatuation for granted. It shows poor handling of the characters and lazy writing, and is always an instant turn off.

What's your view on the movie characters' relationship, though? By the end they are not romantically involved in canon and many argue that "not every good male/female relationship needs to be a romantic one", but I think they're all missing the point. In this particular case the characters had such perfect chemistry throughout the movie that a romantic deveolpment feels natural; that's mainly why WildeHopps is so strong here in the first place. It's not that they HAVE to be a couple, but rather that they would actually WORK as a couple, much more so than many canon romances I'm aware of.
It's a romance that, while not explicitly realized by the end of the movie, was certainly earned. Add to that the ambiguous nature of their closing lines and you have the prefect recipe for some truly ardent shipping.

The fanfic issue stems from the fact that most, if not all writers in the fandom fail to recreate the enchanting chemistry we were shown in the movie. That's my take on the WildeHopps conundrum.

I love WildeHopps, I joined the fandom solely due to it. The only reason why I became captivated by other Zootopia concepts like Pack Street or the dynamics of the climate wall or the economy was people from these threads rather than the movie. The problem is I'm finding several fics that completely screw them for conflict. That would be fine if it didn't end in WildeHopps, or ruin the characters. But they always do both. I don't care about "real relationships", I care about Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. If you want them to have a conflict, be my guest. But for the love of god, don't make it feel like a breakup is the best option and make it end wildehopps. "Strong love bonds withstand anything", sure. But you're making it clear they don't have that, and in the end it sounds as sweet as a love story of a college undergraduate fighting her family, the police and hospital to go back to her alcoholic abusive BF who leeches off her money because despite everything he deeply loves her and she sees his good side when hes not drunk.

Different anon, but I understand what you are getting at; I have seen a lot of fics that have Nick and Judy just be horrible to each other, and yet the expectation set out by the author is that it is still suppose to end in WildeHopps. I've seen almost everything at this point; Judy going "Jack is better than you in every single way, Nick!", Nick being extremely closed off even for a friend and refuses to tell Judy anything, the usual "Judy gets cozy with another male/cheats on Nick", Nick is extremely possessive/easily jealous, etc. It is not a healthy relationship for either party, they might as well end up with other people.

I can only think of one fic off the top of my head where Nick and Judy are with other people, and it STILL had the "Nick is abloo abloo because Judy has a boyfriend" trope for the first 10 or so chapters, until Nick becomes attracted to a vixen and the trope becomes irrelevant for the rest of the story.

This is the main problem with WildeHopps haters. They can't bring up valid point why the relationship wouldn't work (because they can't)
They only dismiss it because they dislike it (finding the male/female main romance cliché or something)

Reasons why relationship would work:
-They both had to deal with people looking down on them for wanting to be different -> they understand eachother
-Nick thought Judy that you need to see your own shortcomings and make yourself better before you try to make the world better.
-Judy thought Nick that what people think of him, and what he is, does not define WHO he is.
-They both helped eahother to become better.
-They enjoy eachother's company
-They care for eachother

Reasons why people want them to be in relationship:
-reasons above (it's what's called chemistry)

Reasons why relationship would NOT work:
-Interspecies (maybe)
-They don't want a relationship to stand between their job/friendship (maybe)

Reasons why people DON'T want them to be in relationship:

A romantical relationship in the case of WildeHopps wouldn't feel forced.
Honestly I wouldn't mind if the sequel would just time jump and start with them being in a relationship from the beginning and focus on an other plot. A movie-long back and fourth of two characters that fit together nicely would be booring to watch.

One thing that I'm happy to know that since every poll I've seen pro-WildeHopps winds with at least 80% there is no way they are going to blow it. Would take a huge toll on the movie's rewatch value for 80% of the fans.

For the record, I do support WildeHopps, but I think Interspecies is an entirely valid reason as to why WildeHopps wouldn't work. It's just the same as why a gay relationship might not work out because one of the people involved isn't gay.

It makes sense for animals to judge attraction based on the opposite (or same in some cases) gender partner for their species. Judy could simply not be into foxes, and not find them physically attractive in the slightest.

Also, I'm not sure how I'd feel about WildeHopps actually being canon. Something about imagining how it might go, I feel like Disney would make it far too heavy-handed to work well.

Just some thoughts.

Completely agree with your last point. Your first one is on the mark as well, but I personally can't see either of them connecting with anyone else the way they had with each other by the end of the movie. It feels like any such scenario would have their respective partners dramatically overshadowed.

I honestly enjoyed the kind social outcast who raised and "adopted" child, because that was his only connection, his only anchor point that kept him going to be a good person in the world where everyone treated him as a monster.

Stupid kids killing someone in accident, and father covers for him taste's lifelike and believable.

It's really a nice scenario, none of them feel too cliché or overdone for me

A blind read through is me reading the fic without knowing anything about it. That way, the author can hear my instant reactions about what I’m thinking through a fic. It's sort of like a blind play test with a video game! At the end, I give my summary, thoughts and feedback for the piece.

You're right, it's definitely a valid thing to have to work past for the sake of love. Things can definitely work out such that one party had never considered it before, but it works out when they actually try it.

I was simply trying to point out it was a more valid obstacle than that anon originally gave it credit for.
