If you've just watched some vid on youtube it might sound really wierd but Goku's Japanese voice comes completely natural if you watched the series in Japanese starting with the original Dragon ball: His voice fits the little kid and he steadily grows up while 1-2 years always pass so it never feels like his voice suddenly doesn't fit the character.

In the end he's left with a much more fitting voice for his character. The english voice makes him look like a generic superhero in battles and outside he just feels like an adult autist.

Redoing the voice acting was one of the selling points. Most of the VO talent here in America from the original run were new at the time and were eager to do it over and give it the polish it deserved.

Kai actually gives the japanese cast a run for their money, and is flat out better than their Kai/Super performances for the most part. Those other dubs are about on par with their japanese counter parts. Also, branch out a little more in what you watch. Japanese voice acting is really great once you get the hang of reading subs and recognizing their voice/speech paterns.

Just remember, Dragon Ball is a manga first and foremost, it didn't make much sense not to give Goku a make voice actor as an adult other than the japanese loyalty to the voice actor. Sean's Goku is great once he become more professional and was given an accurate script. In the orignal dub, not only was he ameutur but he also portrayed Son Goku compeltely wrong, as did the script. Funi didn't even read the japanese script until Kai.
