It's a decent isometric action game for a distraction in a sidescrolling platformer/story game. It's pretty barebones on its own merits: relatively easy to exploit enemy loops, reliant on a depleting health bar to remain challenging, lacking in depth and inventory/weapon/strategy variety beyond "dash, take key, use key on door". I don't even think its randomization elements are strong enough for the roguelike/lite meme label.

It has a more fuckable main character than most roguelikes, though.

This game is very poorly paced, the characters are all more like caricatures of privileged millennials, and most of them are hypocrites in some way. A lot of the time when they were getting angry at Mae I genuinely sided with Mae's opinions and comments when I felt like I wasn't supposed to.

Out of genuine curiosity, why do you guys like this game? (You can't even say the character designs, because they're practically nonexistent)

You see my friend, you seem to possess what is called an opinion. It is your right to have one, however, you fail to understand the point of the game.

These characters are all flawed, I would question what makes you think them spoiled however. I do not see how you could call Bea's predicament anything other than awful. Furthermore, yes, at times, Mae is correct. However, being right does not mean everyone agrees with you, rather, people often do not want to hear the truth, such as the dinner after Bea's.
Nothing Mae said was specifically wrong, but the timing, phrasing, and place it was coming from (college dropout neet with no social responsibilities) of course angered Bea. Bea did not want to confront her father, her problems, her life. She wants desperately to live another life and Mae telling her to confront her problems was the last thing she wanted to hear.

Yet this is why Bea is so quick to forgive. She knows Mae means well, and is in some form correct. Even still, Mae has the social graces of a raccoon with rabies. These characters are all flawed, despite their outward appearance, they are all human.
And I love the art style it's cute.

Didn't Bea and Mae's relationship end with the explicit deceleration that they're only became and still are friends because they just happened to live in the same town together? Also, I understand that the characters are flawed, but they made no sort of effort to show them trying to improve themselves in any way. Mae had the least character development, you just see her more intricately than the others.

Bea has the most growth. She starts off bitter, angry, and judges Mae harshly. If you go her route she slowly opens up to Mae, and even decides she's going to help Mae overcome her problem. She realizes Mae is really messed up and needs help, and you also overstate Proximity.

They wonder if they had other people to be with, would they be friends? They're quite dissimilar, with more options there would probably be other people they would rather hang out with, but the point is moot. They have each other, and not much else. And that's worth a lot. They are stuck together but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy each other's company.
The game takes a Catcher in the Rye approach to its characters. They are all deeply flawed, Mae most of all, and she even goes on to admit that she doesn't feel like she learned anything from it all.
But also as the game says, it's not the big things that you learn from the most, it's the small stuff, and Mae did grow somewhat as a character by the small stuff.

This isn't some epic, it's not a fantasy journey, it's not mystical or even 2deep4u. It's the life of a girl with mental issues and a dying town. Just like in real life, sometimes there is nothing useful to be garnered from an experience save the knowledge to avoid repeating it.

This thread looks interesting. Is the game worth playing?

Except they're not? The game's style was what stood out to me the most in the first place. If it presented its character designs like say Oxenfree I wouldn't have been as interested.

I like it because it honestly reminded me a lot of actual shit I've dealt with growing up (the fights with Bea and Mae's Mom hit kinda close to home). The characters also didn't make me feel like I was playing the |evul tumblr gaem| most people would brush NiTW off as. The writing also made me laugh and tear up a few times.
