Honestly even though I said "tropes" I was making a bit of a generalization. I only can remember the one for the most part.
And the one in particular WAS actually the "mate for life" thing.

I can't remember how it was explained completely though, it was in chapter 4 or 5. I think.
But I do remember that it made some sense for how he was able to live that kind of life, with such a massive restriction.

Something along the line's of if Nick DOES form a strong emotional attachment to someone AND have sex with them, it could happen. Which is way he goes through a large number of steps and planning to ensure it won't happen. (Never look his buyer in the eyes, no knotting, no talking about who they really are, and something's else I can't remember.) All things Nick breaks due to her insistence of it in chapter one, and him thinking it won't be all that bad.

(She doesn't know about any of this at the point of the first chapter and sex that they had, but she finds out later. Judy feels awful that she could have almost ruined his life.)

Even then though, I do still recommend it. The smut is quite nice for a first time writer, and the character voices are surprisingly solid and entertaining. Nick also being a generally competent person from the get go, without acting like a coward and a putz is great to.

It didn't actually happen though, it was just explained.

It was more along the lines of "let's pull back and not jump the gun."

At the most recent chapter, they are starting to get into the idea of dating each other and seeing if they could work out together. And if they really do want to pursue each other and it's not just a passing thing for the both of them.

(It's not going to be. Obviously. but Nick and Judy are handling it like it is.)
It's pretty light-hearted, for the most part. (Nick seems to have some pretty large hangup's and we recently saw him undergo a pretty bad panic-attack. Which was caused due to Judy's idiocy and think Nick underestimated her.)

I feel like it takes away a bit from Nick's character when he is able to outright beat Judy in a fight; Nick seems much more of a thinker, preferring to talk his way out and, failing that, either retreat or stall. After training at the academy, Nick can probably give Judy a match depending on the situation, and can take down criminals, but Judy is still definitely the "brawn" of the duo.

I guess it's just all the shipping artwork that comes out of the whole deal.

The one thing that I absolutely loved about Pack Street were the character's interactions with each other.
It really kinda sucks when it's all reduced to "Boy, does Betty sure love his sheep" and other comments of the sort, because then there's really nothing that defines them anymore.
Anyone can love and have a partner, and the act of having one really isn't enough to make a character that isn't just another background prop.

And I know that these characters are more than background props.

Every time I bring up the idea of some new work focused on the city and worldbuilding through the existing canon characters, someone goes on about how the movie is more than a year old now, and there's nothing from the canon to talk about anymore. The only premise from Kulkum I actually liked was "Red and Grey", and that story went from 1 to 100 real quick in the second chapter when "I love you" made everything ok and they had sex against a wall. So a few weeks ago I blew through all of Pack Street and really enjoyed it, especially Weaver's writing style and the strength of the characters. I was on a long trip at the same time and the idea of a fun movie night story got stuck in my head, so I thought I'd bang it out. It was a fun exercise in trying to understand and replicate someone else's style and try to understand what he does with character voice and Remmy's narration.

I didn't really know where to drop it since I don't normally do fan fiction (let alone fan fiction of fan fiction) or have an account anywhere, so I figured I'd throw it up on Pastebin and drop it here. It is ten thousand words, split into ten sections. Hope you like it, but even if no one reads it, it was fun to write and I'm glad I got it out of my system!

People fucking loved him and unironically wished him well when he went off for the Coast Guard.

And when he got back, he essentially turned his back on the thread for no fucking reason. He can blame the fact that he wasn't up for drawing much all he wants, people just wanted to wish him well. He wasn't just a fucking monkey who danced when we told him too, he was a cool guy.

But he decided to be an asshole. Worse, he started representing the worst of the Discord early on: prima donna me-me-me bullshit. Even on the Discord, the few times I saw him, he was moody and unpleasant.

Then he makes his fucking dramatic exit with prerequisite doom-posting... then started to come back like 2 months later, with nary an apology or even just an excuse.

So, since we are entering the dead hours and I have some time while my programs run, I had an idea for a little game.

I (and other anons, if they want) will try to give a constructive critique about it (since I am better at this than at drawing) and suggest some areas to improve into.
