MS Paint Draw Thread
Let's draw sketches and silly doodles of whatever we want without any pressure. You don't have to use MS Paint if you don't want to as long as you're having fun. All skill levels are welcome!

Sweet. Have some small halfassed doodles I did while watching videos.

I'm pretty hyped for Star Fox 2, I'm hoping to pre-order a SNES Classic in the 0.5 seconds before the remaining supply is grabbed by scalpers.
On a related note, here's a Miyu portrait. I plan on doing Fay next.
Someone did a one line 5 second sketch on ms paint mouse, i took it and reddid a very quick sketch of it
>>10143762
I got it from https://krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/ . It's open-source and free. If you're saying Krita's crashing for you, I dunno what the problem might be, it's only crashed for me a couple of times.
I don't plan on using it anymore anyway, since it performs really poorly for me when working with really high resolutions. I've been trying out a new app called Leonardo, instead. So far I'm loving it, between its performance and how good its touchscreen support is. Pic related is the first thing I drew in it

That's because you have no clue how to go about things for good happy success. But you're at least good enough and have enough self awareness to notice so go read the guide books made by the people who know what they're doing.

>loomis
For what it's worth, Loomis isn't my thing, either.
Anyway, judging from your art, it seems you're mainly have trouble with form and perspective. I think you're probably breaking the body into 2D shapes, rather than 3D forms, resulting in a figure that appears flat since every part of the image is drawn out of perspective. It isn't clear where "eye level" is in the images.
Additionally, I think you probably don't have a clear concept of how to construct figures; just a rough idea of how different parts fit together. Studying anatomy and gaining an understanding of the muscular and skeletal structure can do wonders for this, as can learning shorthand for various body parts (that is, simplified forms that approximate the overall shape of the part).
Pic related is a redline (multicolor-line?) illustrating how I might correct these issues.
>Blue line
indicates the orientation of the spine
>Red lines
Shorthand form representing the rib cage. To the right is the "flower pot" shorthand for the pelvis, spine, and rib cage, which I find pretty useful for planning out figures. I'm pretty sure I learned it from a tutorial written by Doxy.
>Green lines
Arms, shoulders, neck, clavicle. When I plan arms, I usually draw some ellipses representing the bicep and tricep. Note that I corrected the perspective of the hand holding the mug, as well as the mug itself. In this case, I placed the shoulders roughly around eye level, which means that we should be able to see inside the mug and see the side of the hand (which is facing upwards). I usually draw hands as mittens when planning things out, and the thumb is basically a jointed stick on a ball, which is attached to the side of the palm. (But that might be a bit tough to see in this case.) I also extended the arm in the top panel more, so that the hand would be in a more natural, relaxed position.
(Going to have to continue this in an additional post)
Oh boy internet fights.
>>10145458
>>10148482
>>10149740
(Part 2)
>Green lines, continued
I corrected the neck to be longer and thicker, which I approximate with a cone that has had its tip cut off. The sphere of the head should rest at the top of that cone, with the front of the head hanging off the edge of the cone.
>Purple lines
The head. When drawing the head of creatures with snouts, I usually start with a shorthand that consists of a sphere with a box sticking out of it (or rather, THROUGH it). The bottom of the box should roughly align with the bottom of the sphere. The sphere itself approximates the shape of the skull, while the box approximates the upper and lower jaw. I don't have any major tips for eye placement, since I just have it memorized, but generally speaking you want to place them an eye width apart from each other and just above the horizontal center line of the skull sphere.
>jaw
I split the jaw in two, and in many cases the lower jaw box is thinner than the upper, but that isn't an absolute rule. It's important to keep in mind that the jaw bone sits far behind the opening of the mouth, and so the hinge of the jaw is at the back of the mouth, at the throat.
>ears
Folded ears are tricky, and it took me a while to figure them out, especially from a front or rear perspective; the key lies in recognizing that when animals fold their ears back, the ears usually fold along a single crease. The best shorthand I've come up with is to separate the ear into three parts: an ellipse that indicates where on the head the ear attaches, the portion of the ear before the crease, and the portion after the crease. The ear folds alongside the head, and to draw the ear correctly you just have to think about the order of the three parts, front to back; for example, from a head-on perspective, it'd be "attach, before crease, after crease". From a rear perspective, it'd be the opposite.
I hope this helps you figure things out!

Thanks, it's actually really easy to do drop shadows like that. I traced the outermost lines with a large white brush on a layer below everything to create the white outline, and then I copied that layer, set its brightness to 0, and dragged it to the left and down a bit.
>Also way to make a straight line look sexually appealing.

I went a good while without drawing this year, but I'm trying to output finished stuff a lot more frequently now. Seems like I'll be able to pull it off this time, since the art app I switched to recently (Leonardo) has gotten rid of virtually every point of friction I had with digital art. >critique me
>perspective
the perspective of the legs and feet doesn't match the perspective of the rest of the body. The legs, and especially the feet, are drawn as though the entire body is facing the viewer front-on; while the perspective of the rest of the figure is turned slightly away from the viewer -- basically a 3/4 view perspective.
There may also be a perspective issue with the shoulders, but I think it's more likely an anatomical issue. Otherwise the perspective is good.
>anatomy
Like I said, there's an issue with the shoulders. Mainly, the left-hand shoulder (his right shoulder) is too low. It's tough to tell for sure what you were trying to do, but I assume you were going for a shrugging gesture, based on the position of the right-hand shoulder.
The bottom edge of his pectoral muscles seems to be lower than it should be.
The part of the hand before the fingers is too long in comparison to the fingers. The lines of the fingers seem wobbly and unsure. Both of these issues can really only be fixed through lots of practice drawing hands from reference.
>art style
You should experiment with varying your line weights more; the thinnest lines in the image are still pretty thick. Using thick lines throughout can be a good style, but in my experience it requires a lot of care; you have to limit the number of lines you use, and be VERY sure about their placement and shape.
The lines indicating the scale pattern on his underside and feet are overdone. Keep in mind that when it comes to texture, lines are used to show where shadow accumulates; not every part of every crease between the scales is going to be pitch black. In line art, this translates to varying the line weight of creases, or even omitting parts of the creases, based on how much light reaches them.
Anyway, those are all the issues I've noticed. I hope it helps!

At first I was going to post my reason for not drawing by itself but then I started doodling the first shit that came to my creatively bankrupt head.

Here's another Mr. Do enemy... It didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped.

Why not
This was my favorite one from yesterday; it's some sort of gem eating monster from Crystal Castles.
>>10289890
Thanks, but to be honest it really is on paper! I made it with water color and took a picture of it.

So this is just a thread where you post whatever you draw?
No particular rules, subject, or anything?

Is there any tips on how to draw with MS Paint? I've been getting into it recently cause well, I enjoy the pixelated look to it that other art programmes doesn't do. This is a random doodle that I did but, I would love to improve.
Ehhhhhh

I can't remember all the tricks there are to the software off the top of my head, but you can for example erase only certain colors with the eraser tool or use a "custom brush" by selecting something and holding shift while moving it around, little things like that. I'm sure some page on the web lists them all.
Another program that does pixelated look well is Paint.NET, although it might have too many features if you are like me and find MS Paint's simplicity part of its charm.
>>10305038
I found another old computer(?) I thought might be able to make some even older ascii art, but sadly it didn't really work out. The printout always includes commas which disrupt the whole picture. But I wanted to post a picture of it anyways in case you were interested in this kind of thing.
>>10301166
My trick is selecting the sketch colour(in your case grey), cutting, and then filling in the background with your original background colour(white). Then, with transparent selection enabled, paste your cut drawing over the new background and your sketch layers will disappear. Note this only works if you're using the pencil tool as aliasing will eliminate the effect.
Has any body here ever experiment with other styles? for example Hanna Barbara
>>10306625
I'm not skilled enough to experiment with other styles yet, but it sounds pretty neat. Maybe in the next thread we should have a challenge to draw something in another style? Maybe make your character into a wacky races character?
>>10292879
Where did this come from?

That sounds like a good idea
