Very true but from we have seen of them they usually are depicted as being held up in pens, and fed by their handlers. So if they are treated like and housed like animals I just assumed they have the same agency of animals.

I always imagined they trade goods for room and board. Cows give milk and provide hefty amounts of manure for their crops. Sheep provide wool for clothes. Chickens for eggs and to clear the area of things like ticks and other pests. Etc. I cant recall ever seeing a farm animal handle or make bits so I dont know of any jobs they would compensated for. But maybe if they are trained for menial labor that is a way they can make bits.
