We have now reached the 140k mark in zombie lab. The all in is getting a little better
>>
Might want to put a solid color stripe or banner behind the "1:18 General" next time, it's kinda hard to make out in the pic.
>>
Do the Revoltech Mini MGS figures scale with Acid Rain or Joes? I want some mooks for Snake and Snake to play around with.
>>
>>6455758
They are slightly larger, at 4.25"-ish
Some say that size works for enhanced people like Snake, Cyborg Ninja, Ironman.

No but I'm hoping they try doing a line based on one of those franchises. A bunch of new pieces for nothing otherwise.

>Man, I sure do wish they would let us just buy the individual kits instead of blind bags or buying the entire set.

They probably only think one or two would sell by themselves so they want people to buy a lot of packs to justify the tooling for the rest.
>>
>>6457906
They could of done a preorder. Those sets that did not meet a specified number could of been skipped.
>>
>>6457931
Yeah but they probably wanted the unpopular ones for themselves.

I mean don't get me wrong I'd have preferred if they did sets you could choose but none of these are really essential anyway IMO.
>>
>>6457906
they can at least sell a pack for each mold/color, all the minikits in x color like greek accesories asking people to buy a 90$ pack is crazy, I purchased the all in pack because I like to do custom things a lot but the vast majority of people just want a couple of them, and the blind bag concept for custom parts ... I dont see it, if I want to create a Biker Mice From Mars custom I need those pieces, and if is blind bag I cant expect those pieces will appear instead of a random other set, randomnes in a custom accesories set is a very bad combination

I like the idea of exotic parts to make our figures unique, really but the way they do this product is ot the correct one

Everyone always thinks they're the majority except when they're not, then they're suffering boohoos who wish death on the company for not eating the costs and giving them what they want.
It's always better to let the consumer eat the cost, because the other option is getting nothing at all.

For me, i only want the boxing equipment.

And you guys bitch even when some of their greatest designs sell like shit.

But that's missing the point, in that you think what you want is so great and ensured a best seller, when that isn't always the case.
You need to spread the cost around, elsewise we get jack shit.
This isn't Islam, if anything, its socialism.

If you want to support capitalism, there's plenty of smaller companies and individuals who sell handcast pieces individually for two or three times the cost.
Of course, supporting HACKS is also capitalism, and by supporting them, you can get more designs in the future too... unless they dont sell well, then you get nothing more.

Factoring in the new tooling, production numbers, and unit price. Each of these 4 new figures cost them less than $20,000 each. So they only need to sell 3200 total figures out of the 12k total figures produced. If they sell out they will have made 4 times their investment.

Last thread there was an anon talking about the costs of joes, with cardboard making up a big chunk of the cost of production. I was wondering if paper boxes like Acid Rain does is a big difference in cost?
>>
>>6461267
>with cardboard making up a big chunk of the cost of production

what? are you saying the package is a important part of the cost of a 4" figure?
>>
>>6461279
No, he's saying that cardboard is one of the costlier thing about making toys.

You can save quite a bit of money by not making packaging or just a plastic shell or baggy.

So when companies like 4H make figures like this on a card, despite never hitting any retail store nor plans to, it's a pretty big chunk of what you're paying for.

As for Acid Rain, the packaging is required, since they do sell to physical retail stores. It's not something they should skimp on.
>>
>>6460590
I purchased the Thor Ragnarok 2 packs from Target yesterday. So each figure is 10 bucks so that's a good deal, I thought. Took them out of the package and man what a disappointment. They had sloppy paint apps, no wrist articulation, no ab joint and just a few accessories. Come home and see that my BFS Hacks fantasy figures arrived. Open them up and wow, im impressed. The detail on these things is impressive. All these extra accessories are just icing on the cake. I totally agree with you, they are very well priced. Hell, I'm impressed they managed to keep them under 30 dollars. I immediately placed an order for wave 2 and added an extra Orc and Knight from wave 1.
>>
>>6461294
printed paper/cardboard is cheap. Anyone claiming otherwise is a fucking retard

>Hasbro fan

as I said, a fucking retard

Much of the cost is going into the mold-making expense, plastic and paint, and then transit to get it from the factory in China to the stores. Cardboard costs are fucking low.
>>
>>6461558
Paper/cardboard is cheap, but tooling and jigs for the bubble's molds, aligning and gluing costs money. These are all fixed costs though, and the more you make, the more the costs are spread out. I can see how making bubble/blisters for small niche lines can bump the costs.

I think Acid Rain's packing style is one of the most efficient you can use for such lines. The cardboard and foam can be cut using non-specialized machines and you can change up the dimensions whenever you need.
>>
>>6461558
Look at the prices for Marauders figures sans accessories. It's $12 because there's no packaging. That's with them barely making a profit on a figure because their profit comes from all the accessories. If they did a carded figure including accessories it'd be $25-30 like everyone else.

The Boss Fight Studios nude figures are like $15 because they come with really simple packaging. It's not hard to figure out. Figures with accessories and packaging from BFS = $25.

>calling Hasbro fans retards
How are you not a Hasbro fan? You want figures at Hasbro retail prices, with the accompanying shitty paint apps and crummy accessories. You wouldn't be expecting that price point if you weren't a Hasbro fan, since they're the only ones who can sell at that level.

>2012

That's not current year. The Asian markets have changed significantly over just a few years according to Hasbro. The number produced also affects a sale price.
>>
>>6462140
Yeah that's true, but all of the market changes have pointed to things costing more, not less.
>>
>>6462198
technology is not suposed to make prices go down and make produce stuff more and more cheaper?
>>
>>6462120
if they're paying that much money for paper they're getting ripped off.

But with their overall shit QC lately, them paying more for paper than the actual plastic doesn't surprise me.
>>
>>6462198
I was concerned that the 2012 bit made it look like Hasbro in general was doing better than it is, instead of certain brands carrying the company.
>>
>>6462140
Shows what you know.

One: The market changed the most from 2006-2010. It's part of the reason why Toy Biz was shuttered and Marvel licensed out the IPs.
2: prices have stabilized since 2012. It's why MLs, MUs, GI Joes, etc haven't changed in price much since then.
C: Hasbro has switched factories and the manufacturing processes since then to reduce costs
IV: Printing is one of most stable production methods, so there's going to be little change (and any change would be upward in cost).
In addition, where's your proof?

Again, the biggest indicator for costs are the prices they charge. If prices haven't changed since 2012, that chart is going to not have changed much since then.

Also, that chart that guy posted is from a share holders packet. It's to disclose how production works and how much it costs. If there was any major changes, they'd have made a new one.
I routinely go through their shareholder and investor briefings to gleem new info, and also through their yearly statements, there really is nothing new to share. Revenue/CoP/profits are very stable for them (growth is mostly from dollshit), so there's no reason to believe that chart is totally off.
>>
>>6462296

>prices have stabilized since 2012. It's why MLs, MUs, GI Joes, etc haven't changed in price much since then.

How the hell can you include Joes in that blatent lie you just said? Joes went up to over $15, which was why they made them two packs to justify it. And now the line is gone entirely from retail and you have to pay $30-40 for club exclusives since all there is now.

>Hasbro has switched factories and the manufacturing processes since then to reduce costs

Trying to reduce cost must mean they were making money right? Kinda like those 5 poa Star Wars figures they began producing right? I mean they must be doing good if they're going backwards in time with articulation?

>Again, the biggest indicator for costs are the prices they charge. If prices haven't changed since 2012, that chart is going to not have changed much since then.

Are you high or mentally challenged? They had to downgrade GI Joe several times just to get each wave of 50th on the shelves. This included cutting paint apps, and cutting new tooling costs. That budget sculpting on Shooter. Not putting Falcon in his camo like shown on the file card, but black to save money on painting three figures. Cutting paint cost on the scars on Tombstone and Stiletto. Tombstone's scarred eye isn't even painted in. And they also canceled vehicles entirely.

Ultimately they elected to cancel the line than do a wave four of a budget cut 50th. Hasbro stated that for a fact and said Rise of Cobra fucked Hasbro over because they went all in on a bad movie. Hasbro also tried to cut articulation to save money, even producing a few 5 poa Joes in the Retaliation line. They wouldn't do things like that if they were making money.

Do you live in Canadia or some shitty east asian country?
The last mass retail wave we had with them was 9.99 for the single packs for Retaliation.

There were no single packs after that and only came in two packs as exclusives to TRU and various websites.
All the two packs have been around $15 since then.

>$30-40 for club exclusives
This shit doesn't count. You might as well be arguing that Star Wars Black series cost $60 because of convention exclusives like Thrawn.

>I mean they must be doing good if they're going backwards in time with articulation?
I'm not sure where you're going with this, because it sure as hell isn't about anything i addressed.
As for the shitty 5PoA Star Wars line, that was seperate from their collector friendly articulated line which was continued as a WalMart line for ~$10.

>That budget sculpting on Shooter.
There is no such thing as budget sculpting. There's a lot of bad sculpts everywhere and even import lines continue to charge arms and a leg for shitty sculpts. So this means nothing.

>They had to downgrade GI Joe several times just to get each wave of 50th on the shelves.
Yeah, and? It was a limited release line. They were basically only releasing shit that was already planned and had sculpts already, which is how the GI Joe line had been since wave 2 of the 25th line reused the same shit over and over.

NOTHING you have said disproves the FACT of how much packaging costs though, which is all my post is about.

chinese riot squad.jpg
34KB, 450x298px
>>6462484
And how many riots did you see from workers during that time?
How much did toy costs increase?

Little to nothing.

From 2006 - 2011, lines like Marvel Legends went from being $8 to $20.
From 2008 (or whenever the 25th line started) to 2012, GI Joes went from being $5 to $10.
From 2008 to 2012 the MU line went from being $6 to $10.
Star Wars? Same shit.

How much do any of these lines cost NOW? Star Wars is at $11 at Walmart. MU line, despite being completely downgraded, is $12. Marvel Legends? Still $20, despite upgrades in articulation and extra paint apps.

You may point to import lines, but the Japanese yen has been in constant influx, which affects prices hugely. So you can't really compare their prices to the mightly stable dollar, which is where you would notice any differences in prices.

Even fucking indy lines like 4H's stuff had a huge varying increase in costs. Their older stuff was, i believe, $20 for things like the Minotaurs (2006?), Queens ($20 in 2009), to Scarabus being $30 in 2011.
How much do 4H's stuff cost now? ~$30 (which INCLUDES shipping).

So if the wages increased a ton in China since 2012, it sure as fuck didn't change much for toy workers (nevermind that constant that the packaging cost would go up as well)

>>
>>6462551
Anybody in the toy industry can tell you the prices have gone up in the last 5 years. You could talk to any 3rd party creator. I would know, since I am involved in that industry.

The retail prices didn't see as much of a change because companies like Hasbro made changes to keep prices the same. They use stock artwork like Black Series and 50th Joes, that all have the same package. They've been cutting articulation. They've been cutting back on quality control. They've been cutting back on quality of materials. They've been selling more multipacks. All of this adds up to counter the recent increase in Chinese labor costs.

>>6463083

>>

Technology doesn't really have an impact of action figure production. The injection molding, assembly, and painting is largely the same as it has always been. Technology really only affected the quality of the work, like being able to capture better detail.

Plastic prices spiked a few years back. I haven't tracked it since then so I don't know if they came back down or leveled off. That has had an impact, but the largest was the Chinese labor. Chinese workers are not paid the slave labor wages they were 10 years ago. In order to offset that factories began charging more for every aspect of the production process from tool making to final quality control.
>>
>>6464111
I supose prices will go down once the automatization will be a reality and the 99% of the work will be done by machines (also indie action figures will have a better prices)

>Anybody in the toy industry can tell you the prices have gone up in the last 5 years.
No, shit
It's the claim that prices went up the most since 2012 that's bullshit.

Again, prices soared so high that we saw toy companies charging 150-200% more from 2007-2011.

You make the claim its jumped higher since 2012, but where's your proof? It is not reflected in anything we buy today (aside from Japanese toys, which has more to do with the value of the yen than anything else), so that is obviously false.
Again, as pointed out with Hasbro and tiny companies like 4H, there are no signs of the costs going up in any major way. Especially not from the 2007 - 2011 period. Almost all toys have cost the same since 2012 or very little at the most (~120% vs 150-200%). Other companies saw similar price increases from 2007-20011: McFarlane, NECA, DCC, etc

>They use stock artwork like Black Series and 50th Joes, that all have the same package. They've been cutting articulation. They've been cutting back on quality control. They've been cutting back on quality of materials.
Yeah, you're full of shit.
ML QC, articulation and paint has only increased since 2012. We saw the biggest cuts during 2007-2012. DCC switched to more durable plastics in 2015 with only a few dollars increase AND include more paint apps (they were no slouches before). Most of the cuts with other companies happened BEFORE 2012. see generic art that Hasbro used. 2012 is when prices stabalized to the point we're at now.

So again, you're full of shit, especially since you claim to be in the industry. If you're in some Asian country, the price increases have to do with your shitty economy, NOT because costs actually increased.
>>
>>6464404
Do you have a complete lack of reading comprehension?
>Anybody in the toy industry can tell you the prices have gone up in the last 5 years.
Is referring to the prices of production, not retail prices. All the reasons I listed before are why the increase in production costs didn't translate to increase in retail price. And you are a complete fool if you think the quality of product is better now than it was 5 years ago. Star Wars, MU, and GI Joe are the best examples of this. All three lines saw a drop in quality control, articulation, and plastic quality.

My argument stems from
>This is wrong. The largest increase in Chinese wages came from 2012-2016.

To that specific post you're quoting where he's just stating a general prices have increased (and not implying more than the 2007-2011 period)
>No shit

>And you are a complete fool if you think the quality of product is better now than it was 5 years ago.
lolololololol
See, you're full of shit on this.
2012 is when we first started seeing the dumbing down of articulation on MU and 1:18 figures. Avengers. GI Joe Retaliation. All of these lines were planned from 2011 based on the cost of production that was settled for into 2012.
We saw shit like this being released. Whereas since then we saw an increase in articulation in the Spider-Man figures, more paint apps, NEATER (accurate) paint apps, and overall better QC.
GI Joes in 2013 (later wave Retaliation figures) saw a return to being as articulated as they were in PoC and all the figures with the TRU lines also saw the same type of articulation.

Fantasy line has piqued my interest in Vitruvian Hacks but how come the female characters have an ankle rocker and the guys don't?
>>
>>6470289
Yeah, i dont know. Really wish they would of done ankle rockers on the males as well. Kinda strange they went in different directions with the male ankle design.
>>
>>6470289
Because they designed the male buck first, and found that they couldn't fit the same cuts in the smaller female foot, so they did a better one.

Also, I think they were considering multiple feet options for different angles the way they did the hands, but gave up on it for some reason.

A HOERRRRRSSSSSSSSSSS!
>>
>>6478432
At previous cons, BFS sold assorted mini accessory kits in those gashapon-like bubbles. Basically, it was weapons and armor from the Greek waves. I can't remember if they had new colors or not.
>>
>>6478432
It's the random assortment egg things they had on their website over Easter iirc. Just random armor sets and weapons. Not really worth it imo.

Went to the custom class and that was *well* worth it, the Boss Fight guys were extremely nice and helpful. They had bins full of reject body parts, armor, and weapons you could dig through. Got a handful of broadswords and an almost complete Tartarus Guard(paint's not perfect but pretty close).
>>
>>6478479
Pretty nice.
>>
>>6478479
At least someone had the sense to do another horse in the scale.
>>
>>6478306
>Female knights coming but might be a while (requires new tooling).

question for /toy veterans, new tooling like that usually takes like a whole year to be reality, right? like we will see female knights arroun the summer of the next year I am correct?

BFS will not make an interview/presentation or they just show their stuff and thats all? I though we will had a presentation with QA

It would be cool if they make the ball joint for the neck of the horse was the same size and the torso joint on the people so we can make centaur customs
>>
>>6480516
I would be legitimately surprised if they didn't engineer for that very thing.
>>
>>6480516
knowing Boss Fight guys, on one way or another we will have at some point centaurs, it would be weird knowing how much they like compativility and customs we dont have/can do centaurs.

But one thing needs to be said, the human torso on a regular sized horse can look a bit too much small so I wonder if it would look weird...

---

we still dont have images of that gargoyle concept art?
>>
>>6480535
They might have to come up with a bigger male/female torso. The regular torso wouls extremely small on that horse body.
>>
>>6480551

The Marauders stuff is 2x Valkyrie engineer, 2x Valkyrie in light green, 1x male engineer + two female purple t-shirt torsos, one of each pink hair female sculpt, three armor masks, and two male head sculpts.

The Vitruvian HACKS accessory set was for the custom class.

>>
Man 1:18 is crazy at the moment. I'm a big sucker for 2 battling factions but with the number of 1:18 figures coming up, I better cut down my collection.

So far I got:
HACKS humans vs orcs (Past/Myth)
Gi Joe vs Cobra with MTF figs/parts (Present)
Acid Rain and now this new line (Futuristic)

That's 3 diff "worlds" now. I need to cut it down to one. Which would you guys stick to?
>>
>>6485343
HACKS if I had to choose
>>
>>6485343
to be honest, Boss Fight is the king, yes the marauder is cool but the Hacks peices sistem and the amount of product release+variety of release themes no one can beat them, remember series series 3 space will be for 2019 or at least this is my sensation

but if you go cheap Marauders is the way to go, basic bodies with head are 13$

my personal plan is:
-I already have some BFS greek stuff (6 customised figures with blanks+accesory sets and upcoming blanks minikits)
-I will buy 3 fantasy figures
- 6 figures when series 3 will come
- 6 Marauder bodies

I'm sure I will buy more but this is my plan for this scale for this and the next year

I just like to have like 3-6 of each timeline figures
>>
>>6485343
>new line (Futuristic)
Which one is this?
>>
>>6485343
I'd go Acid Rain, but it really fits my headspace aesthetically. Boss Fight started really strong, but the Fantasy and Space designs aren't doing anything for me. I like one of the minikits, but I'll be damned if I buy a set for it. The gladiator stuff is definitely where I want them going, though. Marauder's females look pretty cool, the original Taskforce figures were a little too discount Colonial Marine for me. Pretty bummed they couldn't even cook up control art for the WWII line, but they'll show us something eventually.
