A lot of people in the old thread were complaining about how some characters have been hard to find.

So I was wondering if you would be against Hasbro if they increased the retail cases to 10 pieces per case and included 2 re-releases of the more harder to find figures from a previous wave? These figures would be the same in every way as the original release but most likely would not include the BAF piece.

Your thoughts?
>>
>don't want anything from the marvel knights wave except the BAF
>Find someone selling it for $50 shipped
>They wanted everything but the BAF

Nice. I thought I was gonna have to wait a month or so to get him below $65 shipped. Man Thing is awesome.
>>
>>6418682

The only problem is then you've got random BAF pieces being left over.

In theory it might not be a bad idea, but I do wonder how well it could work. It'd just be nice if they'd figure the case packs out better the first time. I guess.

I never expected Misty Knight and White Tigress to sit around as badly as they have, so I don't know anything anymore.
>>
>>6418682

I think they should drop the BAF shit and if they want to do a big figure they could sell it separately for 30 bucks retail, it's not like it adds value if you just wanted Taskmaster or whatever and ended up with an oversized severed head.

put at least 2 of every figure in a case, maybe the hypothetical big figures could come 1 to a case or be shipped separately.

I can't think of anyone who'd prefer BAF pieces to more accessories or heads or hands for the actual figure. But of course the BAF is purely a tool to pressure people into buying more figures, so that will likely never happen.
>>
>>6417974

The Age of Ultron figure is wonderful. It's got the body hair the first one lacks, and a much more pleasant green.

I really wish the pants were the tore up type so I could use it as a general Hulk though.
>>
>>6418682
As someone who gives no fucks about BAF's, I support this. I have so many utterly worthless BAF parts that will never be used, most of them arms and legs, just garbage plastic taking up storage space. There are a ton of figures that I missed out on because of scalpers and pegwarmers preventing shipments that I'd love to finally get at a normal price.
>>
Thoughts on Mezco Daredevil? I'm on the fence; I prefer the comic based look of the ML but the Mezco looks like a solid figure, too.
>>
>>6418690
Agreed. They do it partly to justify the price by including $20 worth of plastic which the figure alone rarely meets, but I'd so much rather see figures coming with a lot more accessories and interchangeable parts than a large plastic leg of some third rate villain I don't want or care about. But of course the other part is to incentivize people buying every single figure l so they don't stop. All I'll say is that I'm so glad they don't do this with the Star Wars Black Series figures.
>>
BAFs are an idea Hasbro got as a grandfather effect of taking over from Toy Biz. They initially wanted to get rid of the BAF idea altogether after they cleared out the remaining Toy Biz finished toys, but there was such a huge outcry from everyone that they felt compelled to keep them in.

So if you don't like BAFs, take it up with the people who bought MLs back in the early 2000s.
>>
>>6418804

I have bought ML since the first Toybiz Wave with Cap, toad, Thor and Ironman.

The BAF was great when it was huge like Sentinel and Galactus but these days we get literal regular wave figures as BAF. Which is retarded. They need to ditch them for more accessories, heads, and hands.
>>
>>6418810

If they drop BAFs it will not be replaced by anything, it will just be as a means to keep costs down.
>>
>>6418816
This. It wouldn't even yield something like the Star Wars Black Series, where they're prioritizing unique sculpts over pack-ins. It would just be more of the same mold-reuse and an end to figures larger than Colossus or Death's Head II.
>>
>>6418804
I highly doubt there was an outcry. However, it has been explained to me that the cost of making the figures is by the wave, so the BAF stuff is a way of keeping costs low while still meeting the profit threshold and providing as many figures per wave as possible. Essentially folding the cost of a final full figure as individual pieces included in every other one in the wave as a small loophole. Accessories or lack thereof are tied into this system as well. But of course it really does benefit them because as it has been pointed out it creates incentive to drive sales of every figure. And ultimately, as much as it begrudges me to say it, the BAF stuff has probably helped push some figures that have pegwarmed to sell better than they ever would have without. Obviously in the case of ones like Morbius, Lady Beetle, Brother Voodoo, and the like it still hasn't fully worked out, but I imagine at least some of those that have sold only did because of the BAF. I don't see them ever doing away with it anyway.
>>
>>6418115
ARe you me? I got that today, along with Juggs wave Cable for the same price.

I think the Mezco is great but certainly there are ML options that are cheaper (if you can get one for close to how much it was when it came out, I mean) and more accurate that aren't hindered on pose-ability due to a cloth costume. The main thing in my opinion that the Mezco has over ML is that his billy clubs don't look like terrible and the wire accessory actually works great. He also comes with a bunch of other stuff, but I care less about the heads, all the hands, the stand, and the sense effect than the figure itself and having billy clubs that look good.
>>
>>6418834
Crowley, LA. Oddly, Darkhawk was still $20
>>
>>6418810
There should be a happy medium. BAFs like Mantis should only be split into 3 pieces. The rest of the wave should then get a shit load of accessories. Or a wave could have two different BAFs - buy a set of six figures and build two army builders.
>>
>>6418838
I do have the recent ML, but I got the Mezco Cap and Punisher recently and I kinda wanted to have a street level collection and I'm not sure just how well the ML DD blends in with the other two.
>>
>>6418856
Yo, I'd be 100% down for 3-4 figs out of the wave coming with baf parts for smaller bafs like mantis. Hell, even go by comic/movie, IE the comic figs come with pieces for comic bafs and vice versa. Save the 6-8 piece figures for actually big shit like vulture or giant-man.
>>
>>6418856

Or maybe SOME way to get pieces for older figures, though I know that would defeat the purpose. Like even if Hasbro sold the pieces alone for $10 each or something.
>>
>>6418875
This brings me to a separate issue/point. I want to be able to buy accessories separate like weapons and power effects. For example, I have the white and gold Iron Fist figure, but I really wish I had the flame effects that come with the newer yellow and green one to use with him. Same goes for the movie version of Doctor Strange, I wish I had the comic version's magic effects for him instead of the shitty one that came with him. I remember they used to sell accessory packs for the 3.75" Star Wars figures that came with extra blasters and lightsabers and stuff, which was great if you lost some or wanted more of something specific for your army building. I'd be on board if they did something similar here.
>>
>>6418159
It's the Providence Place Mall's Gamestop FYI.
>>
>>6418834
Michigan. My walmart had juggy wave for $15 as well.
>>
>>6418882

I had a lot of hope for this when Hasbro started heavily investing in the 3D printing market. Like they would essentially open their own shapeways, or maybe even just put out a $100 micro 3D printer that puts out little accessories they sell the plans for, blasters, effects, lightsabers, missiles, etc.
>>
>>6418870
>3-4 figs out of the wave coming with baf parts for smaller bafs like mantis
Mantis needs 100% new tool that cannot be reused though except for other future MCU Mantis figure though. I'm not excusing Hasbro or anything, but the BAF and the fillers are pieced out in a way that they think each figures chip into the pool. I'm quite impressed that they give out figure the size of Death Head as regular.

Mantis maybe they think might not warrant a full new tooling if its not a BAF, and it wouldn't have been made otherwise
>>
>>6418935
She looks great, but let's not pretend like any of that sculpt except the head and parts of the torso are actually new. Same legs and arms as every female ML. And the head and torso could be sold together as one piece since she doesn't have a separate head anyway.
>>
Man Thing is available for $60 on Dorkside right now if you guys care. I don't care about the netflix wave at all so I ordered it immediately.
>>
>>6418949

>>
>>6418976
he's probably gonna be two per box.
>>
>>6418990
I hope so. But Jessica Jones is probably going to pegwarm hard so I wouldn't put it past Hasbro to make her the most common one.
>>
>>6418949
I love man thing but this BAF looks mediocre. There is a similar option cheaper, ala the 2005 toybiz line.

Of course Legends has hit the bottom of the well if they are making Vulture wings BAF.

I wish DC had a concentrated line like Marvel Legends, I love so many of their characters, but most don't ever get any merchandise and the figures that do exist of most of the characters are more often than not kind of shitty and all made by different companies so don't scale together. I want a good Green Lantern, Flash, Swamp Thing, Blue Beetle, and Green Arrow in a single consistent line.
>>

instead doing a baf hasbro should start putting in alternate heads. They do it for some figures, but I'd rather have it become a standard than having to piece together a standard size figure that should be a regular release.

All put together, the hype is to be believed on this BAF, it has a great size and presence to it.
Where you put it is a completely different story though.

Also, quick update on the Knights wave, when I went to do the exchange, Daredevil, Punisher, and Elektra were already gone. This was out of a full wave. My condolences to those planning on getting all 6, this wave looks like it might be nonexistent.

Vulture looks pretty heavy, and the NECA stand is pretty sturdy, so maybe that is a good bet? The Tamashii stands might be a little too light for him. Good movie, but that suit is just alright. Kinda meh in the movie itself. All the Hasbro versions of it were god-awful sculpt and proportion and articulation-wise, and while the Figuarts poses and looks much better, it still has pretty awful proportions. It's so skinny it looks like a 90 pound teenager is inside. It needs much more bulk in the traps, shoulders, and chest, and the legs and arms should be thicker to make it believable that there's a full-grown man in there with armor layered on top of him. It's kind of embarrassing that this is so poorly done given that Bandai has made tons of Iron Man figures now, and should be better at it.

The Mk.IV was a HUGE improvement. The more angular form language looked better as a whole, and there were a lot of improvements to the silhouette (the shins weren't so aggressively concave, for instance). It's my favorite "basic" movie suit by far.

The Marvel legends are fairly good bang for your buck in my opinion, and it's definitely one of the widest selection of different characters (especially Spider-Man ones)
>>
>>6420943
If you're into faithful appearances, Marvel legends offers a huge roster of comic-accurate figures and are relatively inexpensive. They also have quite a cinematic representation. A few of the older figures that are long sold-out can be quite pricey though, and minor paint errors are common, as well as lack of accessories.

If you want really dynamic posing options and lots of additional parts, Yamaguchi Revoltech and Bandai Figuarts offer pricey but beautifully detailed and extremely posable figures. If you're really new to collecting, you'll want to be extra careful as it's possible to really ham-hand these, especially the Revoltech.

Another option in the same 1/12 scale as above is Mezco's One:12 line. They have good articulation, cloth outfits, loads of accessories, and beautifully painted faces.

I have multiple figures from all the above companies, and they are all great figures in different ways. Watch some reviews and decide what looks best to you.
>>
>>6420958

I get that the proportions are not perfect and yes, i actually was thinking of the figma too, figma, figuarts and revoltech all cost about the same where i live, the thing is, mkIII figuarts was much cheaper than the others for no appearent reason, i'm not even going to try to convert the prices because besides US dollar to Brazilian Real i'd have to take in account the ABSURD inflation that everything imported suffers around here (that's me being lazy to be honest), for reference though i paid for mkIII a little over what i usually pay Neca predators, so it kind of was a no brainer for me, plus i like mkIII design.

BAFs are also being kept as a part of Marvel Legends, by Hasbro, due to retailer pressure.

Basically BAFs boost sales for waves due to them getting neckbeards to buy ALL figures from a wave. Especially shelf-warming figures like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc who most people only buy one of.

People fucking forget, but there was a time when Marvel Legends were in serious danger of being blacklisted from retail ala MOTU.

Wave 6 (the Deadpool/Phoenix/Thomas Jane Punisher/Brown Costume Wolverine/Cable/Juggernaut) basically had a super-super duper limited release at retail, due to most stores refusing to stock the wave.

Similarly, Wave 7 (with Apocalypse, Hawkeye, Vision), was also under ordered by retail with the added insult that the rest of the wave was characters no one wanted and resulted in crap with Vision/Hawkeye/Apocalypse being scalped to hell and back while the rest of the wave, in the few stores that ordered it, clogging shelves for months.

Hasbro got so much shit, they had to do a special Wal-Mart re-issue wave containing most of the high profile characters from the wave. And ended up coming up with the BAF concept to appease Wal-Mart and keep them from blacklisting the line.

>>6422514
That is clearly how he was posed and not limited articulation.

>Basically BAFs boost sales for waves due to them getting neckbeards to buy ALL figures from a wave.

This is true. BAF have shown that people will buy characters they have no interest in if they have BAF pieces.

>>6422515
>Especially shelf-warming figures like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc who most people only buy one of.

This is false. The reason these figures get multiple releases is cause they sell the most. Die hard fans and casuals both like these characters which results in both buying them.

There is the occasional dud like the lazy GOTG Iron Man but if this so called "theory" was correct, then the Juggernaut Wolverine and Deadpool, and all of the Spider-Man variants would have sold like shit. It's the oddball characters that casuals don't like that shelf warm like Misty Knight, Hellcat, and Dazzler.
>>
>>6423058

I don't mind it, I just want the option of switching. I wish they'd done a "calm" face without the mask, since he only wore the mask for a very brief period.

This is complete bullshit.

The lack of a BAF in Wave 6 and 7 had no impact on sales. BAF didn't start until wave 9. At the time of both of these releases, retail didn't even know what a BAF was and Toy Biz had no idea if the concept would even be successful. There was actually many in Toy Biz who actually thought that it would be a failure which is why Toy Biz originally sculpted bases for wave 9 but never released them.

For the record, Wave 7 had a limited release cause it shipped out late. It was not under-ordered. Wave 8 actually shipped just 3 weeks before wave 7 was released, in December 2004, due to a mix up at Toy Biz. Because of this, both cases were shipping at the same time for the next 3-4 months unlike previous waves where one case was shipped and then after it sold out, retailers were sent the new case. Due to both cases shipping at the same time and the fact that retailers could not choose which wave to order, some areas got nothing but wave 7 while other areas got nothing but wave 6. Both waves had a limited release depending on where you lived. My area got tons of wave 7 but never saw wave 8. Some areas it was vice versa.

>>
>>6422515

Bull shit.

If they got rid of the BAF crap they could easily repack and rerelease or double pack figures they expect to sell better, which would help eliminate the shelf warming problem.

If they anticipate high demand for Wolverine because he's Wolverine and low demand for "Random Z list hero that showed up in one comic" they can pack 3 wolverines and 1 Z lister, or even do one Z lister every other case. No pressure to keep even cases for the sake of the BAF bull shit.

Also let's sayt hey don't know and random Z lister is suddenly super popular, then they can pack in that character again int he next wave, easily, once again, with no pressure over BAF BS.

>>6418810
>>6418816
I would probably buy a lot more of the figures if they dropped the BAF and reduced the price down to like $10-$15
>>
>>6423188
This. They could sell larger characters that would be BAFs as "deluxe" figures for $30 or so.
>>
>>6423188
>I would probably buy a lot more of the figures if they dropped the BAF and reduced the price down to like $10-$15

That could maybe have happened back in the early 2000s, but it's not gonna happen now. They have totally gutted the 4" figures to the point where they have no articulation, no accessories and no stand AND no BAF and they're now like $12 MSRP. The 6" are always going to be a lot pricier than that, BAF or no BAF.
>>
>>6423004
You just pull it out. I've swapped my Rhino heads many times
>>
>>6423188

I don't want a price reduction, I want better paint and more accessories/parts.

Look at Deadpool which is one of the better figures recently for these reasons, and he is the figure int he wave without a BAF part.

Even like the Walmart figures, Falcon and winter Soldier. WS looked way better than his mass release and Falcon got his huge wings. Once again, no BAF part. Most of the Walgreens figures fall into this as well, the paint always seems better on those.

Basically, I want all of the figures to be of the slightly higher caliber we get when a figure doesn't have a BAF piece.

Like other anon said, those larger figures can be a new $30-$35 price point. For actual larger figures, not Mantis/Jubilee BS.
>>
>>6417609
Worst general image ever. Do you even know what you're doing?
>>
>>6419937
Icons are tiny and they were small. DCUC is perfectly in scale, but the articulation is crud and the prices are dense. Mezco and *some* icons scale, but yeah. Multiverse seems to be fixing the articulation problems with the rebirth Batman having ankle pivot and the new female sculpt for Jessica Cruz and Batwoman for the upcoming Clayface wave. Other than that, there's not many options and DCC is wildly out of scale.

They might be now since Hasbro's been increasing the average size, but when they were coming out DCUC was clearly larger than ML.
