So what's with the stigma society has about toys only being for children? I get that traditionally they're designed for kids, but so were video games, and it's pretty widely accepted to play video games as an adult... so why not toys?

Is there really such a thing now? It seems to me that most kids are turning to video games so even toy sellers are pushing toys to young adults instead

But I'm not talking toy collecting. I'm talking specifically playing with them rather than just stuffing them in a display case or on a shelf and forgetting about them for years. I've even seen /toy/ look down on it from time to time.

I'm just tired of it apparently being wrong to play with toys as an adult and don't get why it's seen that way.

For real, I went to Toys R Us last week and they had an aisle of otaku stuff.
Murrikans just like to look down on other people. Be it toys, games, cosplay, langauge, jobs, skin tone, sexual orientation, religion, political slant...
You guys have deepset issues.

The fact you're letting it get to you means its all on YOU.
If it bothers you that people look down on it, you have 3 choices.
1-Find another hobby, one that makes you feel better and ismore 'acceptable'
2-Keep on being affected by what other people think, and stay with toys
3-Realize that what others think about you is irrelevant. It's your hobby, enjoy it. Don't let other people ruin the fun of it.

Society fighting imagination in general. Doesn't matter either way, just enjoy what you want. It is also a hobby that usually isn't considered productive or creative, so people don't see what the fuss is about. I think models are more accepted than action figures because of this, even if the boundaries are broken.
