Well, yeah, but the changes to Shadowmoon were...pretty hard to recognize for a lot of people I think. It is an entirely new sculpt as far as I can tell, but it looks so similar to the old one in most places that you'd be hard pressed to tell which is which at a glance (most telling signs are the darker mouthplate and differently shaped feet). The new one is definitely better, it's just...a very small increment of better compared to some other renewals. And the old Shadowmoon was already pretty good, so a lot of people would rather that time and money go into some other Rider.

Figuarts are decent, but they only ever made Red and a Blue/Black two-pack. Prototypes of Yellow, Pink, and Silver popped up at a couple of Tamashii events, but were never released.

Imports are fine off eBay if you know how much an item is worth if you were going to import it. Maybe it's not good for figures, but for roleplay toys it's really good.

I just bought Blade, Chalice, and Garren a few weeks ago and I really like them. They do seem to have an aesthetic geared more toward heroic proportions than suit accuracy like the SHFSS figures, but not so much so that you get the Powerful Rangers thing going on. The articulation is on par with the Ex-Aid figures and the accessories are solid on all three. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

Well, the thing is, it never really left entirely. Even now some modern SHFs get the swing-down hips. Also, the "modern" covered hip system was actually first used back in 2008, on Domon Kasshu, the 8th SHF ever made. Bandai just went back and forth, using those hips and the swing down ones alternately. Like, the original Kuuga had the covered hips for instance.

So basically, both joint types sorta existed for nearly the entire run of SHF, it's just that in the first half of the line they heavily favored the swing-down type, and nowadays they're starting to favor the covered type.

It's just a universal swivel joint. The exact design and sculpt has changed over time, but the concept has been around for a long time in SHF and other toylines.

People were sucking dick over the hinged ball joints due to how high the legs rise until a few years ago when people started realizing that they squeak and get loose half the time.
