ok /toy/, you get magically transported to a Toy Store like Kay-Bee, Toys R Us, FAO Scwartz, etc... at any point int time in the last 30-40 years with $100 in your pocket. You cant leave the store until you've spent your $100 and then you are mystically returned again to the present day.

With all dem mint in box toys what do you buy?
>>
Literally anything that will make me a lot of money via reselling during the present day

toybiz MLs galore, baby. probably some TFs, too. Bionicles maybe.

I miss Kay-Bee Toys. ;_;

The Kay-Bee in my mall got turned into a hobby store with a focus on RC and diecast cars, so it's nice that I can still walk into that same room and see toys on the shelves.

Either early 00s for McFarlane's stuff or mid/late 90s for ExoSquad.... or even late 00s for McFarlane's Halo stuff.

Man, I was just thinking of this while I was taking a shower...

>only 100 dollars

Probably Battle Beasts, Monster in my Pocket and M.U.S.C.L.E. for myself and fellow collectors. Besides that, any number of lesser known mini figures like Madball Wrestlers/ Collectums.

Wouldn't even want to flip them, just want them for display and trading with other collectors I know.

There's a M.U.S.C.L.E. claw figure that starts at 500 bucks... one selling on ebay right now, current bid is 660 dollars... It's a respected collector selling it so ppl probably bidding with confidence.

Besides all that, I would look for one of my grail items - pic related. Supposedly there exists hard plastic versions of those grow monsters, but only a few pictures exist of them online.

If anyone has those I would be very interested in collecting them.

How did KB get away with selling toys for like 2-4 dollars a piece?

I'd go in there with a 20 and go fucking ham when I was younger.

I got a marvel legends icons venom for 10 dollars, about 20 sets of xevoz for 2-3 dollars a piece.

>>
If its KB, all the Machine Wars Transformers
>>
>>6367885

I remember buying Bots Masters figures for $1 a pop. Those 3 for $10 sales were the shit.
>>
>>6367885
Because their base prices for new toys were higher than anyone else. Being a small story that sold nothing but toys, they needed to deep discount old stuff to get rid of it so they could get the hot new stuff that was over-priced but often times more convenient to get than trying to go to TRU or Kmart.
>>
>>6367885
Most of those toys were things that weren't selling well or took up too much space. I'm not privy to the innerworkings of a the store or anything, but KB was more willing to slash prices on lines that were going out of season or about to be discontinued to make room for new product. Being smaller stores with limited space, I imagine they were more open to slashing prices to make room, where as bigger stores had the room to let them just rot until they sold(like Toys R Us)

Keep in mind, though, these cheap prices only applied to toylines that weren't as popular or last year's iterations; then-new and popular lines(like Transformers and Power rangers or Pokemon) were usually more expensive in KB. That's a major reason why Walmart became so popular with toy collectors and parents, they were priced just a few dollars cheaper so people abandoned KB in favor of Walmart. Of course, now Walmart has less incentive to compete and their prices are average and their selection is shit.
>>
Probably a bunch of Toy Biz Marvel Legends circa 2003-2005. Besides that, maybe Beast Wars circa 97 through Transmetals, or maybe Power Rangers in some time through the first few years until Wild Force or so, mainly for the Megazords. I go with Marvel Legends first, though, mainly because those toys are still fun and unique in a way I doubt any new company will try to capture. A lot of older toys have gotten better updates but a lot of TB's Marvel Legends still stand out.
>>
I troop build all the GI Joes kid me was too stupid to buy more than one of.
>>
>>6367885
>>6367929
>>6367946
It wasn't so much discounting old stuff as it was buying up overstock that toy companies couldn't get rid of. People eventually got wise to the slashed out red ink prices being misleading as KB had never sold them at their original price. A lawsuit followed and KB replaced the red ink tags with orange ones.

I would love to go back to KB circa 1985. A $100 could get you more back then than say in the 90's or 2000's. Buy up all those great vintage He-Mans, GI Joes, Transformers, etc. Maybe even a few things from the pink aisle as well. Back when toys were toys and not "adult collectors items" or for the under 5 crowd. Yeah boi.

My only extra caveat would be to take a walk around the mall before I came back to the present to see how lively it once was compared to the dead malls we have now.

Toys were actually just that much cheaper back then, anyway.

A 6" figure in the 90s was only about $5~$6 anyway. I remember all my old Kenner Aliens/Predators/Terminator/Etc figures only costing about that much. On sale, its not surprising figures would be even less back then.

The old 3.75 Gi Joe figures were only about $2, or maybe $3 each in the 80s and 90s..

Yeah, inflation has caused them to go up in price over the years, and you're also paying for better engineering of joints, more joints in general, more paint apps, etc, but I honestly don't know that kids even really care about that stuff.

There's no way I would have even owned hardly any figures as a kid if I was paying $20-$25 per figure back then.

I would go to the early 90's at the height of the Ninja Turtles popularity. I would buy 3 of Krang's Android body. I would keep one for myself and sell the other two (they go for crazy on eBay if they're new)

with any leftover money I'd buy some individual turtle figures that caught my eye. Hopefully they would have Muckman, and Wingnut, at the very least. Oh also, if they had the Sewer Sub, I'd definitely get that

Vintage TMNT vehicles are a top tier choice. If I were a rich person, I would get every old vehicle and display them. Some of them are just absolute works of art.

But to add to the discussion: Z-Bots. Lots and lots of Z-Bots. Me and my brother had quite a few of them, but we never got super deep into the line and barely had any of the vehicles. Superhero figures diverted our purchasing attention a great deal, which sucks because Z-Bots and a lot of other non-cape figures aged way the fuck better than 90s Toy Biz superhero toys did.

Mighty Max

This is a scenario I like thinking about. I would pick a line and blow the whole $100 on it. Probably one of these: Monster in My Pocket, Battle Beasts, Z-Bots.

There's some bootleg vampire minifigs that were sold at Walmart for $1 in the 90's, simply called Vampires. A pack of which now go for $20-$50. Buying up a bunch of those could be neat.

Or I could go full scalper mode, go back to 1968 and spend the $100 on as many Outer Space Men as I could buy.

At first I was going to buy up all 6 original Toa, but then I remembered Throwbots existed...

YES.

The Toys R Us near my house in the 2000. I would then call 911 and say I have urgent information about the future, and if they don't send a policeman to my location I will kill someone. When they do, I'll tell them where I lived, who my parents were, all the data I shouldn't know and things about my family and me. When they try to pull me from the store, I would immediately be bounced back in and they'd have to call in bigger and bigger people to get involved. I'd warn about future events, people and circumstances, and convince the manager that I have no idea how to leave the building and must be left to live and predict as much as I can. When and if the changes I've made are all done, and the timeline is altered, I'll walk over to a cashier and buy a couple of random interesting knick-knacks and leave a note saying I was happy to change what I could and explain what sent me here, and where I'm going to come back to and when to talk to me about it again:

it would be better to go to 1979 and convince Ed Koch to run for president. He'd be far better than a failed actor. Then buy some Star Wars and some obscure toys because that shit would go up in price if MOSC.

>go back to 1997 when tamagotchi and digimon were both around
>buy 3 tamagotchi v2 and 2 digimon
>spend the remaining $20 on a transformer
>back 2 the future
>sell 2 tamagotchi, sell all the digimon (since I already have a few of those)
>triple my initial investment
