I assume he means the electricity to run the fridge? Which honestly isn't much at all. And I have a somewhat fucked up ankle so it's convenient for me to be able to access cold water without going downstairs to the kitchen.

Then that statement was incredibly ignorant of how the grid works. I could plug in ten full size fridges and it wouldn't increase how much energy is produced, just how much is used. Energy production is all demand based so anything that's not used is just wasted. I think there are some small areas that use excess energy to pump water up a hill so they have some emergency energy storage but I'm just going off on a tangent now.
