Looks like Tankor more than Megatron
>>
>>6262877
Outdated design, so much bulk its silly, then again you don't have to share my opinion.
>>
>>6263393
I agree with this actually. At the time they were new and fresh and didn't look like marshmallows ala Pat Lee. They looked good then because we weren't used to this level of detail and design. Then the newer Gundam-ish/movie mash designs came along and I like them a lot more.
>>
I loved their Optimus, but then again I enjoyed that design when I read the comic. I was never too big on this Megatron design though.
>>
>>6262877
If it was a voyager size, i would love it, as is... I think a tankor retool would be perfect.
>>
>>6263848
Same. I don't need every fucking in MP scale and it's not like they're ever going to do every bot in this style to make a complete collection so fitting the already mishmashed generations line would be way better imo.
>>
>>6263886
But at MP scale they can charge 240 for such figures!
>>
>>6263932

It's not nearly that much though.
>>
>>6263932

The really big fucking MP scaled ones rarely scrape 180. Don't know where 240 comes from.

You know, leave out the arm cannon, give it a new head and paint job, and you'd have a pretty good rolling bunker Metroplex.

So can OP edit the thread to actually say Third / 3rd Party Transformers because this thread might as well be replaced by one that did so it can be found in the catalog.

What was everyone's first third part figure and what were your thoughts on it? Do you still own it?

Pic related for me.

The vehicle mode was balls but the robot mode was incredible. Highly poseable with a variety of great weapon options. Plastic quality felt a little weak in comparison but it's incredible to see how far the company has come since their Knight Morpher line. As much as I liked it i didn't really match with any of the other stuff I owned so ended up selling it a couple months back.

DIA Commander upgrade and all the FP upgrade kits when City Commander was the bees knees. Then Defender. Dropped that shit when I realized I had too much and everything was aging fast. Had to minimize the scope of my collection, though my main focus continues to be in the style that FP started but MT is continuing.

Quakeblast and Quakewave are both top tier 3p figures. They both offer something a little different and both do it well, it's exactly how you would want it to be between two companies doing the same figure.

BTS Sonicron, I hated it so much that I completely swore off third parties up until last year. And no, I sold it for $10 because I really wanted that piece of shit out of my house. Almost threw it in the trash where it belonged. Also, this figure is the sole reason why I always watch reviews for pretty much any toy I'm thinking about buying.
>>
>>6265450

Gigapower are the ones behind Cloud 9. They're former Fans Toys people, and (speculation here) used the original Quakewave design as a jump off point. FT did not like that, on top of the resentment of one of their former designers leaving them.

TFC Hercules. I still like him, but it's not that impressive anymore compared to other 3P stuff. I only regret that he was so expensive to buy at the time, each robot being like 80-100 shipped. Still, I plan to strengthen up some of his joints and he makes a really nice Devs for his size/scale/class.
I would never pay 600 bucks for him nowadays, not even half that.

Looking back I think TFC's Battle Rollar was probably the first standalone 3rd Party figure I ever owned. Not necessarily the sturdiest or most posable figure, but the play options were off the charts. It could interact with like three or four versions of OP that had come out in recent years. Don't have it anymore, because I sincerely doubt it would have held up well over time, but it was fun for what it was.
>>
>>6265878
Agreed. I had bought him when he first came out a part at a time plus his rage add-on set. While not as impressive as some of the Devs we have now a days, and certainly not worth his old asking price, he's still a fine Devy for his size class. He really needs those anti-slip pads on his feet though.

I watched the videos, most the complaints are just loose joints. I'm happy to spend all of 20 minutes tightening joints if they plan to do the entire Devy. >>

>customs
I'd be a little concerned, yeah.
Usually what they do is open the package to inspect it, but I've seen examples of it taking a while so don't be surprised if you have to wait longer than you expected.
It's also entirely possible that the packaging could be damaged along the way as well, but that's the worst case scenario.
>>
>>6268334
I'm torn on Beast Gorira. I had the toy as a kid, it was okay, this thing looks AWESOME though... but I can't tell if that's childhood bias, or it legitimately looking good. It seems to fix a lot of the stupid joint / proportion issues I had with the official iteration, but... in the same breath, maybe it looks goofy and I can't get past my rose-tinted glasses?
>>
>>6268896
As someone who tuned out of Transformers by the time Beast Wars came around, no, it's not just nostalgia goggles you've got. That thing looks legitimately cool. I'd have put in an order for one myself, but I kinda already blew my toy funds for the month on something else.
>>
>>6268896
Honestly, what does it matter if it's rose-tinted glasses or not? From what I've seen, it's definitely a well constructed toy, though the engineering on the transformation seems a tad fiddly at some parts. Either way, if you think it looks cool, that's really all you need.

Maybe it's also my nostalgia talking but I love the look of it. It strikes the right mix of "that looks fucking cool" and "that's so fucking stupid" that makes it that special kind of rad as hell that makes Transmetals 1 and 2 so appealing.

Well, I got in delivered yesterday afternoon, and he's great!

He's nice and hefty with the diecast feet, and he feels quite solid. I also love the detailing and paintwork used to replicate the original toy and cartoon model (his robot face), while taking certain liberties (namely the gorilla face, jet mode, and the gun's color). Veyy good use of metallic paints (especially in the green eyes and accents, and the gorilla's eyes, and other
circuitry details).

The transformation at certain points are really entertaining to use, and can be ingenious at times (the unfolding of Gorira's root arms to form gorilla arms, to name a few)

There are a few criticisms I have, though:
- His shoulder wings do kind of get in the way at times.

- His transformations are kind of finicky with all the hinges and joints. You need to align certain pieces in certain ways, or else it'll complicate transformation. This is especially evident when trying to deal with his giant backpack, which needs to tab to complete the transformation, but if other pieces get in the way, or if something's misaligned, the backpack won't sit flush on the tab.

- The forearm armor (or forearmor) is kinda of loose (especially when place further close to the hand in vehicle modes), and can sometimes pop off. Same kind of thing with the gun; it'll peg in fine, but does come a bit loose when touched.

- It's also kind of a pity he has no real waist swivel, and his waist is connected to the backpack to keep it in place. If disconnected, the waist is very loose with no ratchets.

Overall, very decent figure. It has its issues with precision transformation and loose parts, but I quite like him alot. The sculpt and quality is top notch, imo.

I'd definitely go for him if you were a big fan of Beast Wars back in the day, and have the money for him (I spent nearly $300 CAD on him plus shipping).

Also, the boxart is pretty dope.

I think it's just them double dipping, unless PE is going to drastically reduce the price for this release.
After all, the KO is going to be under $100. PE would have to do a lot more for people who are planning to buy the KO.

...Has there been any update on the KO anyway? Apparently it should have released back in Feb.

Bludgeon's Blood DX upgrade was my first toe in the water purchase. Liked the design but felt the plastic quality was noticibly thinner and less detailed from the base figure.

Years later bought Microblaze Creations' FoC Onslaught kit. Figure is beefy but far from perfect. Overall it was a nice price and a great upgrade for my FoC Bruticus. I guess Hasbro did set that bar painfully low to beat.

I have the full set of 6 preordered. Other than like potential problems they might have in-hand that you can't tell from pictures they look like they're going to be my favorite set of seekers ever of any size. I'm still gonna get Iron Factory's Starscream because theirs do still look very good and they're selling them as singles, and I love Starscream (I also already have the Shapeshift Inc. one lol so I'm about to have three different 3P legends Starscreams which is fucking wild lol) but I expected theirs to be the ones where I'd end up wanting the full set and instead DX9 pleasantly surprised me.

But now it seems like there's a fuckton of options for MP-ish Grimlocks between different 3P ones, different KO's, etc. and I haven't really been keeping up with them.

Can someone give me a rundown of like which MP-ish Grimlocks are easy to acquire right now and generally well-regarded and like any pertinent info about them?

Power of the Primes should have been a Thirteen Tribes type of deal.

Megatronus, Onyx and Prima leader class, Solus, Alchemist, Liege Maximo and Quintus Voyagers, Micronus a Deluxe Titan Master, Nexus a combiner and Amalgamous some weird-ass hyperchangeformer - a mass of joints, hinges, panels and shit - that doesn't really look like anything.

And thirteen tribe members... including Nickel. Which would be interesting because she hates her Prime.

>>
>>6272055
They have had a steady decline in quality with each release. So I don't think people are even bothering with FP anymore.

FP used to reigned supreme when it came to crazy engineering, so I never had a problem with their relatively high prices as long I was getting toys that reflected that price.

Now their releases are just expensive without the mind blowing engineering. They aren't terrible, but they should be like half the price they are charging.
>>
>>6271915

Thanks, Grinder looks pretty great and reviews seem good, and I saw that they're doing a blinged out silver one which looks awesome, so I put down a preorder for that version. I always kind of wanted that silver version of regular MP Grimlock back in the day but I wasn't really a fan of the comic colors other than just the silver, so a silver version that is still overall regular Grimlock colors is right up my alley.

I've actually never bought anything from FT before because I don't really collect MP-ish stuff much anymore, I mostly collect Legends scale ever since IF and stuff blew up, but lately I've started picking up more MP scale stuff of just a few of my favorite designs/characters. Like I have a huge order about to ship to me with the new MP Megatron, PE Optimal Optimus, and FH Scourge all of which I'm very excited about. And I think Grinder will go well with them on just a shelf of like assorted favorite characters.
>>
>>6272153

Chromedome is the only FP headmaster I have and I think I got it for retail price right when it came out, and like while it's not a better representation of Chromedome than the newer Deluxe, which for most people's purposes probably makes it not worth it, there is something that I really like about it that has made me hold onto it. It's just a really fun transformation and there's something satisfying about the engineering and construction of it that I like to fiddle with it a lot, so for me I'm not really complaining I feel like I got my money's worth on that particular figure. But still it has been like years since I bought anything FP and I agree with the general sentiments people have been saying about them.

>>6275679

One of the strongest, well built, and stable combiners in the running and certainly the most playable considering all the potential configuration options. They're overpriced for each individual bot though but each one is decent enough as a stand alone. Deathclaw is probably worth buying outright as a stand alone robot/alt mode on top of being the best limb and the best gun. Ironshell is one of the best executed torso bots I've messed with with a strong robot mode, merely passing alt mode, and fattening up to be come a brick of a torso.

My biggest issues are the lack of paint on the faces, the very specific positions you need the robot legs in to transform the limb bots correctly to their limb modes, and that without extra parts or two hands supporting he can't really hold a team member in gun mode. I've taken to making gun hands out of the limbs instead until thousand kills gets here and I can use two arms to support the weight of deathclaw in gun mode.

goddamn do I ever love Poseidon. I'm still too afraid to do the gestalt mode neck replacement though. With all the cutting and drilling it requires, you really only get one shot and I'm so afraid of fucking it up.

I'm still hoping for that teased God Neptune from the comic. Hopefully it will have all fixes and inevitably lowered like all other gestalt gift sets. That and be in a sexy color scheme.

Goddamn when is TFCon?
>>
>>6275936
If they do make God Neptune colors, I wonder how they'll handle Scyllia. Will they just straight up repaint Thousand-kills and maybe remold the head? Or will she get an extensive retool that actually gives her a more feminine physique on robot mode? Obviously they can't do too drastic of changes to the torso because it still has to have the extending slider for the elbow joint but they could still maybe retool the chest to give her robot titties.
>>
>>6275936

I'd settle for a GT Devy box set (that isn't that fucking translucent plastic abomination that will fall apart in minutes I'm sure), and a regular TFC Piranacon box set.

Seriously, just give me box sets, companies. I'll pay your $450, $500, whatever. Just put them all in one fucking box and give me like $10 off per figure or something. I hate having to hunt down entire sets months after the fact because saving for this shit takes time and at least with a box set I know I can get it all in one go and not have to worry about being forever stuck missing a limb.
>>
>>6275897

So if I could get the current 5 bots for $350 I should go for it?

I'd buy a Diaclone Gravity Builder in a heartbeat.

>>6275952
I think they could get away with just retooling the chest and waist in a way to be as wide as the current mold. I don't think too many people would be bothered by a THICC squid as long as it doesn't look like a Torchbearer.
>>
>>6276032
>I'd buy a Diaclone Gravity Builder in a heartbeat.

Good for you, but I meant just the regular ones, in a box set. Though that would be a good idea for a con or something. But far more likely would be G2 colors, since those both remind people of actual construction vehicles better, and it's one of the few G2 color schemes people actually like.
>>
>>6276032
GT in Diaclone colours would be awesome. I'd rather have the yellow G2 version but either would be great.
>>
>>6276011
Yup.

>>6275897
>hey're overpriced for each individual bot though but each one is decent enough as a stand alone.

I agree, I used the ebay flash coupons on each release so it wasn't that bad. With the chinese seller discount with the $15 off coupon they become well worth the $75.

Yeah, but he has limited articulation, 45 degree knees, the wrist swivels get blocked by their kibble and his ankles barely move.

>>6276736

His ankles don't even need to move. He stands on essentially two long blockly lines so it's not like he's hurting for stability.

I'm holding out for a God Neptune box set for a reduced price and fixed QC.

Not a valid excuse on that scale.
>>

There's not much of a cohesive foot you can make out of alt mode shell and dragon limbs. He's like a dinobot in that he just rests of hunks of kibble. It's functional and accurate to the toy.

You can move the panels to get a super deep knee bend. The dragon head swivels only get blocked if you retract them to pop the cannons out, and even then you can still put them in a few different positions with the cannons out. Dunno about the ankles though.

And which one of you wankers did this?

The robot feet become the lower cheetah legs, which removes the dangling block in beast mode. The accomplishment is that the robot leg is *mostly* visually unaffected by the new transformation (the feet are a tiny bit uglier and lose toe articulation).

Original Sized replica I think. Manufactorer is Kubianbao. They make masterpiece knockoffs.
No idea about the quality though. Was hoping someone had experience with them.
>>
>>6278895

I got their Voyager size MP-10 just cause I was curious and it was pretty cheap. The quality is pretty good. Nowhere near as bad as you normally expect from a KO but also like not 100% as good as you expect from a real figure. Mostly just the yellow paint is really shitty, the gun is shitty, he kind of can't hold the gun for shit, and then one of the connectors on the little thing that covers the matrix broke really easily but that's like not a break that ruins the figure or anything. Those are pretty much the only problems. Joints are actually really nice and tight and solid and everything. Idk if I'd buy it again but that's mostly just because I like don't really have any place for it in my collection and it was just an impulse thing.
