I've been on a dragon buying spree.
Got Jay's elemental dragon, the morro dragon and fiery legend.
Fiery legend I have mixed feelings about it, it looks kind of weird if you don't put it in a flying pose. Might modify it a little.

That's pretty amazing. Probably bad for the environment ultimately, but still pretty cool. Can you imagine being a kid when it was first starting? Whole sets worth of parts just washing up on the beach in front of you.

And that dragon mold is still one of the coolest pieces.

I can't help but feel that with these two buildable figs, and then semi-new Nexo monster torso part seems to imply that Lego is testing waters to see if they're popular enough to phase out normal bigfigs.

The nexo monsters hit that scale pretty well though.

Simpson is actually a pretty mature show with lots of domestic abuse, drugs, and adult humor so I'm surprised Lego dropped sponge-bob shit and is now making Simpson sets.

This gives me hope tho..

Homer strangles his son, drinks beer every episode, and uses adult humor.

Been watching Simpsons since I could remember its a good show but its not one that panders to children which is what Lego panders too.
>>

My point is that those things were considered edgy and controversial in the 90's back when Simpsons was fresh, but they aren't anymore

Lego is now making Galactus based on the 2007 film. He is an amorphous cloud of studs and that's it. Also no Jessica Alba minifig. The instruction booklet teases new Fantastic Four sets based on the 2015 version.

I think that it's design is classic, iconic, and even revolutionary as far as scifi goes. But since I've been a Star Wars fan for like 18 years, I'm very very used to the design. So I wouldn't pay money for something that to my sensibilities is kinda basic.

If you don't have any other Batman stuff, I'd go with Dragon Forge, mostly because the building it comes with is amazing.
>>
>>6261517
With Dragon Forge you get more volume of stuff. pretty fantastic looking building, decent dragon, more figs and tons of accessories.

Joker's Lowrider is a pretty solid set. Yeah, you only get one thing, but It's fun and sturdy and looks good on a desk.

Both are pretty great sets, I think it really comes down to how much you want to spend and what you'll be doing with the sets.

My vote actually goes toward the Dragon Forge. Love the building and the dragon isn't half bad. I hardly know anything about Ninjago, but I've been on a Samurai Jack binge lately so the asian architecture really pulls it off for me.

>>
>>6261482
Whites and grays that are mis-colored in Peroxide for 4 days in sun. Then all colors in mild dish soap and warm water then rinse. And yes pasta strainers, let sit, then spread out on bath towels in computer room where it is nice and warm. Drys in 10-15 minutes. Do small batches at a time with stuff i'm going to use.

Stay away from dishwasher, washer, dryer, etc. One wrong setting or you forget them and you got a mess. Or interesting art? LOL
>>
>>6261538

Heres a weird one. I got the speed champions ferrari FXX speed champions set, and the instructions featured on the lego instruction site show a different set of gears than what it comes with to run the big fan blade.

Anyone else notice this?

Is this common with sets?

I had something similar happen before with the "ezras speeder bike" set, where the entire front fairing of it was completely different to what was shown in the instructions on the lego site.

Neat for something made out of random parts, though it would have looked better with tiles rather than grates.

Now, for my own quick build, something I made using the stray bricks I got disassembling a robobot for outpost parts alongside Kylo Ren's micro-shuttle and a stray piece from the classic blue set. I call it Larmack.

no secret. i never liked how the cockpit is on the side, but not the middle. that's the cockpit right? anyway, it loses its symmetry
>>
>>6261652

Defender anon points out that there are four different variations to his model (part of Designer Robobots) in regards to how it's built: leg plates facing inward, leg place facing outward, and whether the feet have holed blue 1x2s with black pivots stuck in them or two plain blue bricks, and whether the feet have 1x2 flats on the toes to act as stabilizers or not.
>>
>>6261792
There's a piece of concept art that makes the layout make a lot of sense, the prongs clip onto a train of containers to push them, with a second 1300 on the other end. The offset cockpit lets the pilot see past, and the drives are centered which is what really matters.
>>
>>6261792
from a design perspective that's to it's credit imo, if only in the sense that it stands out from every other grey square in-universe. most larger aircraft are piloted off-center, right?

Pre-Production wanted Han piloting the Tantive IV, which while not strictly a freighter has been used for cargo hauling in-canon as well.
>>

That concept art is dated 2015. I like it, it makes sense, but I'm not sure if it's original intent or not.

I do like the thought of Han and Chewie flying the sooped up equivalent of a tugboat, though

I think the Speed Champions mudguards are a little large for that car, maybe use the city ones. The side skirts could probably be cleaner looking using modified plate pieces. I'd also make the B-pillars less thick, and maybe try to lower the car by using the 1-brick high car doors. All just my opinion, though.

It's a good start, anon!
As the others have said, it does look a little oversized, I imagine that's a side effect of using those specific mudguards.
Since you're building in 6-wide, you might want to look into this technique, it lets you seat two minifigures side by side, so your car could potentially be a 4-seater family car.
Keep on putting bricks together, and you'll only get better.

Looks a lot better already!
Height and proportions for cars is very important to me personally. Just a very subtle change can make it look a lot different, especially in minifig scale.
While the roof with the slopes in front already make it appear lower, I'd just see how it looks one plate thick. Making the doors and window also one plate lower will make the windshield look smaller and the car in general less tall.
The shape and size of the panel with rounded window in the back looks very out of place to me. Using the same panel you used as roof support between front and rear doors in trans-clear there will probably make it look more consistent.
I'd also shorten the wheelbase to max 6/7 studs and make the roof support between the doors 1 stud thick. Now it's just inbetween family van and limousine but not really either.
The final thing i notice is that front bumper is half a plate lower to the ground than the sideskirts. By using snot on the snotted bumper you could make the same height using plates and tiles.
These are just personal pointers though, buildling minifig-scale cars is very tricky and there is no one way to do it that is both the most detailed, stable and proportioned the best, so there are a lot of things you can only decide for yourself what is most important.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I'm afraid just about everything in the build is about as low as it'll go while still maintaining the ability to seat a minifig with hair (or a helmet). The windshield just can't be lowered, so I subbed in some cheese slopes to make the curve less abrupt, which still sorta fits the source material.

Also minorly updated the internals, sides, and the windows.

How bad are the price guides from Bricklink?

It seems a bit deceptive because theres a lot of sellers who list sets as sealed, complete, new, used, but write shit in the description like no minfigures, box, or only this portion of the set. How much do these listings make the price guide inaccurate?

The older the set, the less helpful the pricetag is. I can guarantee you that NONE of the Western sets are sold for their original price anymore.

That's a lot but a bit steep. I usually buy totes similar in size for $100-$125. I won't buy spend more in a single shot. Something about spending more than $100 makes me feel funny even though I know it's not a lot of money these days and I'm probably getting a fair deal.

I guess I've been spoiled with my last recent hauls. All huge lots for about $100.

Question for all of you that buy used LEGO in bulk:
How the hell do you clean them?

I've been going through a tub of old lego pieces from the late 80s to mid 90s and they're all semi-dirty.
Random dog hair, some faded pieces, some chewed on, generally dirty.
(The chewed pieces I guarantee aren't washed)

Should I just get a small tupperware tub with some baking soda and water and just jumble pieces around in it, take them out, rinse and dry them?
>>
>>6263333
Yea, I have to drive about an hour for anything good. I see the crap you are talking about all the time.
>>
>>6263333
Usually I get lucky once in a blue moon, but I try to maximize my return based on time spent looking.

What helps is that there are a couple of neighborhoods near me that have Homeowners Associations that prevent the people living there from having garage sales more than once a year. So the sale gets scheduled for a certain day, and the entire neighborhood has their sales on that day. Suburbs, near schools, lots of kids/parents. That's where the magic happens.
>>
>>6263339
There is not that much to it.

The most extra thing you can do is put on gloves and go and separate all the stickered, minifigure, and fragile items like plant leaves and sometimes chairs and accessories. But for the most part dump it all in a plastic tube put antibacterial dish soap in, water, agitate, and let sit for a half hour then rinse in pasta strainers.
>>
>>6263339
I won't buy or negotiate once I've seen if they are in a mild dirty shape. I won't buy chewed stuff or damaged. I did once find a diamond ring in a haul and it was real! SCORE! (Seller was a real bitch too.) So nope, she didn't get it back. Besides the listing was gone and I had no other way to get in touch with her. Nor did I want to.
>>
>>6263339
and yes, I will use warm not hot water, mild soap and a little Oxy clean powder. Let sit. then rinse and do the strainer method and dump on towels.

Garage sales are a crapshoot. Last summer I found one where a kid was selling his assembled $40 sets for $20 each, but he also had a big (18' x 18' x 18') box full of unsorted pieces that he sold me for $20. It had so many expensive/rare parts that I never would have bought otherwise, including a gray Mindstorms ball/Indiana Jones boulder ($10), a big Agents shark ($10), a glow in the dark octopus ($15), a Harry Potter Dolores Umbridge hair ($5), a bunch of minifigs, and probably 20 pounds of klocki.

It also had a bunch of dog hair, dirt, BTL blocks, a few miscellaneous other toys, and some garbage, but 95% of it was genuine Danishblokken and it took me more than a week to sort everything.

Dang I must have about a dozen of those things from all my buys. Didn't realize they were that much.

But agreed, Yard sales are a hit or miss thing. I pretty much gave up even when they list Lego in the ad in the paper because you know its going to be gone by the time you get there.

I do word-of-mouth and Craigslist.

Even the days of scoring a ton on Ebay for a decent price is gone.

Hmmm. I really wonder how many pounds I own. The way I buy it... It has got to be well over a 6-7 hundred pounds by now. Maybe more.

And don't you just hate when you start sorting and you find a few Mega Blox and then a few more knowing that... oh crap, I'm going to have a bunch of this when it's all over.

I've prob got half a tote of mega blox crap that i doubt I could sell or give away.

Resellers can get pretty crazy about it. My mom works at a thrift store and they get in the same guys almost every day looking for lego, asking for lego, trying to get discounts on lego. They'll even try getting into the back to see if there's any being readied for later sale.

I sold a bucket of surplus parts and random things on kijiji once, the first person to message me gave a sad story about being a teacher for special needs kids and was looking for Christmas gifts (was in early december), was prepared to come that same evening for the lot. I was called away at the last minute so someone else at my home had to finish the deal with him, I got back later and heard about how the guy insisted on dumping out the whole bucket and pawing through it extensively (I'd listed several pics of it all spread out with close-ups), singled out a few third-party accessories I'd tossed in thinking some kid might find them cool, and was apparently very familiar with worthwhile lego components. Then he tried to haggle, offering ten bucks less than the price agreed on, my intermediary stayed firm and he grudgingly forked over the full amount. What annoyed me was how he gave this bullshit story to get me to hold the lot for him.

There all just as bad as each other. Sellers flood these sites with listings that just aren't appropriate for what their offering.
>>
>>6263630
Yea. I go into thrift stores now and then and ask them if they get Lego in and they said they have a list of people they call (regulars). So it NEVER hits the floor at the store.

I've given up on yard sales and it's word of mouth and Craigslist.

Today's Craigslist find (60+ lbs. has netted me 154 minifigs thus far from the smaller of the two containers. There's bits a pieces of some Minstorm electronics in there too.

I just happened to be first to respond to their Ad.

What peves me is when people keep their ad up long after it's been sold. Either take the Ad down or email and say its gone.

I'll only haggle if its dirty, has other toys mixed in and its being sold by weight or I see fur and other trash in it and it's listed as coming from a pet free home.

Bricklink sellers - more than likely.

I used to see people in thrift stores (including the Salvation Army) looking up what things sold for on Ebay to see if they could make money off of it. I haven't seen klocki in a thrift store in years. :-(
>>
>>6263868
I grew up around a bug, my grandparents had one, and yeah. WAY too skinny. You'd need it to be 6 wide+fenders at that height to be the proper bulgy size.

I-I like it and it was free and it looks nice with my other klocki cars ;_;

I plan on modifying it to be 6 wide like my speed champions and able to be able to fit a minifig or two. I got it for free with the purchase of my first modular and I plan to make a modular street with a road that has cars in it. I think it'd be weird if they're all sports cars so a bug is perfect.

As for stickers - I'd prefer transfers/printed bricks for sure, but I think they add to the look, especially the GT40.
