There's a shinki I'm looking at that has two listing. The one with Heavy box damage appears to have a less damaged box than the other. Should I trust it?

The main thing keeping me from picking up one of those rifles is that it doesn't look like it has any way that you can holster it. I prefer being able to stow all my FAG's gear when not in use.

I'm a snapfag, and I'd prefer something a little more secure than a sling anyway. Could maybe do something with those faux-hands on the Flexible Arm MSG kits, but it'd be really nice if there was just a 3mm hole somewhere on the gun to use.

Maybe in a few months.

Set 1's the only one that's a big pain to get the parts for elsewhere, though, since it's a bunch of Frame Arms weapons aside from the assault rifles. Set 2's just four MSG sets stapled together at a very minor discount.

The shields are easy enough. The chestplate would require scratchbuilding to do anything with. The shoulders are in a weird place where you can attach the jets, but not the side plates.

Honestly, unless you're skilled with scratchbuilding or want to learn, I would wait a bit to see if they announce a Stylet Kai.
>>
Ages ago someone posted a picture of a custom Architect that was turned into a centaur. Does anyone happen to have a copy or a source on it? Can't seem to find it anywhere now.
>>
>>6229252
I don't have one in specific, but all you should need is a spare Architect Renewal frame from the main line, plus whatever armor you want. An Extend Arms 05 would do nicely and comes with a frame. Plug the frame's neck plug into the 3mm port on the back of Architect's skirt and either remove the spare arms or wrap them around her waist, then armor as desired.
>>
Does anyone here remove seams-lines on their FAGs using plastic cement/glue? I was planning to use it on the fleshy parts to remove seam-lines, but they are so close to polycaps I kind of have second thoughts.

Here's a Baselard of each type for comparison. Baselard is unique in that she directly reuses parts from her progenitor, with the exact same shield rifles and shoulder parts. You can take the adaptor pieces from her shoulders and attach them to the original Baselard if you like. Most of the time FA Girl parts are smaller and slimmer than the FA parts they're based on, but the kits are of largely comparable height: it's the amount of bulk that differs between them.

The primary difference when it comes to handheld equipment is that regular Frame Arms have hard plastic hands with large rectangular slots for weapons, like HG Gundam models do, while FA Girls have much smaller hands made of soft plastic. Most weapons will fit both hand types, but it may require some work to get certain weapons to fit in the smaller hand type. Both come with compatible 3mm ports and are designed with augmentation via Modeling Support Goods kits in mind.

In this picture, FA Baselard is wearing the Extend Arms 02 set designed for it, along with the tanks from a Propellant Tank Square and the beam sabers from a Saber & Hammer set, while FA Girl Baselard is wearing two Exceed Binders attached to her skirt by the male-male pegs from an Energy Shield that I was using elsewhere. The sword she's carrying is a Mega Slash Edge, with the handle being a spare that comes from a Unite Sword.

Also, it's worth noting that since FA Girls are a newer line than Frame Arms, they largely enjoy the benefit of newer and better engineering. In the case of the Baselards, the FA Girl version has much nicer-feeling plastic with a tighter fit to everything, while FA Baselard's armor is a little loose by comparison to newer FAs like Ji-Dao, and you can tell the plastic is of an older and lower-quality type.

FAG Gourai is the big exception, since as the first of her line her quality is very poor. Stylet is also somewhat unimpressive, sharing a lot of Gourai's flaws with minor improvements. Architect and Materia are the big leaps forward for the line, so if you're not especially into either of the first two I would wait for improved versions to come out in the future.
>>
>>6229848
The more I look at your Jinrai Boxer, the more I start to think that it resembles a Nitro+ mecha.

>>
Need to ask a serious question
[yeah yeah 4chan serious questions]
i currently have inocentia on orde however my finances have taken a major hit and i may have to consider cancelling the order.
My question is this: does anon think that innocentia will be released? or maybe get a big enough run that i could afford to wait till my finances are more stable to buy it?
>>
>>6229967
Drop the preorder. It's a kotobukiya kit, they will ALWAYS be in stock or get rereleases further on down the line. Use your brain.
>>
>>6229866
The knees are a bit Demonbane-esque, yeah.

>>6229874
Don't worry about it. I don't mean to scare you off a purchase if you want a Stylet, only warn you if you're just looking for any type of FA Girl and don't have a particular preference. If you like Stylet, she'll make a perfectly fine addition to your shelf.
>>
>>6229967
Drop the preorder. Innocentia will be in stock for a while, and even if she goes out of stock she'll get a rerelease in another few months. Bandai and Koto kits are rarely if ever discontinued outright, and Innocentia's the new hotness they're hyping as a base frame design, so they'll keep putting her out for a long while.
>>
>>6229967
Considering I've seen just about every kit Koto releases available pretty consistently I think It's safe to cancel and wait out the storm.
>>
>>6229967
If you're in a situation that you can't even spare $50, then the answer is to cancel your preorder. Like the other anons said, she'll be around for a while.

Picked up some cheap LBX weapon kits. The guns are way oversized, and the FA girl hands are a bit too rubbery to hold them. But Megami Device works great with the melee weapons and shield. The shield grip even plugs in nicely on the wrist ports.

It would probably be easy enough cut the handles off and drill a 3mm hole where they were, then either mount them, or use the handles that come with Gourai or the Freestyle Bazooka, which are meant for floppy FAG hands.
>>
>>6230848

The problem is more the weight of the weapons than how secure the grip is. Either the hands will drop out of the wrist sockets, or the fingers will warp and let go. Kinda wish Fags used plastic hands and jointed wrists instead.
>>
>>6230887
They do in post-Stylet releases. Gourai and Stylet are the only two with the old hand type, which is extremely weakly held into the wrist. My Gourai's right wrist in particular pops out at even the slightest pressure, and the left wrist can't hold anything substantial, which is why I have her driving the tank and gesturing without holding anything.

Stylet has a better ball socket for the wrists, so her hands will at least stay in as long as she's not holding anything too heavy, but it's still a lot less weight than anyone else can carry.

The hands are still pretty gummy, and it's a crap-shoot whether you have enough wrist-tension in the joints, especially if you aren't modifying or painting them.

FAGs aren't really built to do the Strike Gundam pose.

But a proper sniper rifle (cannon?) shouldn't be fired from the shoulder anyway, right?
>>
>>6231071
This is amazing.
>>
>>6231071
Well yeah, I still definitely recommend bracing any large rifle in some way. You can get more wrist-tension by turning the wrist joint perpendicular to the direction of gravity, but that'll work at most with something the size of a Killer Beak rifle. For anything bigger you should use a Flexible Arm or a thigh port or the like to provide support, like what I do with my Stylet's sniper rifle.
>>
>>6230779
I think that's what is commonly referred to as "a joke".

No, although we don't have any information on any Koto releases past July. If it's supposed to be an upgrade she gets as part of the anime, I would imagine an October release. Otherwise, probably sometime next year.

no
>>
>>6232354
reissues never have improved parts. It is basically just producing additional stock of the item they made before.

Now if it was a 'renewal'/'repackage' then there would be new stuff in them. Now it does not always mean you get new parts for the model itself. The Zoids Blade Liger Leon ver Renewal only came with new box art, new figures of the pilot, and some waterslide decals, the other Zoids Repackages are similar. Frame Architect Renewal on the other hand has new joints going on and any Frame Arms of older kits that says Renewal on the box will be using the new Architect

Tamiya and Vallejo are both great. What kind of painting are you doing? Can/handbrush/airbrush?
>>
>>6233323
Spray undercoating in black (probably, if I need to) followed by hand painting. No airbrushing.
>>
>>6233327
Then that anon's recommendation of Tamiya is out the window. Not very good for hand painting. Vallejo goes on very well, and can be thinned with just water if you felt like it. Not as good as actual thinner mind you, but it is not bad either. Is your undercoat going to be a primer? Because I do recommend you prime with Vallejo, it's biggest con is it is probably the weakest of all the acrylic paints I used so far. stuff scratches if sneezed at.

Since you were a mini painting you may not be aware of this trick on colored plastic figures but, consider not painting the skin. Use Flat/Matte top coat, and it makes the unpainted plastic look painted. It can also cover up light scratches from fine grit sandpaper.

So any anons here happen to have it, I be greatful

and I posted before remembering I had more to say, have this http://www.hobbyhovel.com/2010/08/tips-and-tricks-spraying-flat-top-coat-on-unpainted-models.html

Really shows how effective the flat can be. You already have your FAGs right? If you haven't yet, then you may not be aware that painting the skin does have the troublesome issue of the face plates having the eyes on them already.

For the skin, don't bother painting it. Just take care of the seam lines using cement, matte coat, use weathering powder (IE Tamiya Weathering Master H/G set) or finely ground up chalk pastel and a make up brush to apply a blush or gradient, then seal with another coat of matte clear. Honestly this can be done with a lot of parts and not just skin tone, but it's just used mostly for skin tone.

Well, screen printing would probably be your only real option if you want to use real fabric, unless they have a fabric printer that I don't know about.

Unfortunately, it would be very time consuming and expensive to the point where if you did that, I'd recommend selling a few so it's not a massive sink, and that's if it would even work at that scale, or if it would even work at all with amateur grade stuff doing a human-ish design. My brother screenprinted a bit, but only t-shirt designs with one or two colors.

and I posted before I realized I actually had relevant experience for your pillow stuffing. What I get for posting while sick at 1 in the morning.

You do it inside out. Sew the pillow inside out, and you usually leave a corner unsewn big enough to allow you to easily pull the pillow through it right side out, and then subsequently stuff it, while also preferably being small enough that it won't cause much of an issue should the sticthing used to close the hole come undone. You want to finisha nd tie the stiching youdo putting the two peices together while inside out, because those stiches will be much stronger then the Blind Sticth used to seal the hole in a way that the thread is not easily see. Otherwise if you continued the without tying it off, you risk the much weaker blind stitch undoing everything.

Granted this is information I remember from back in high school's home ecc class, so there may be much better solutions out there and I may be making assumptions on the reasons behind the stitchs and techniques. But it is something I still use now and then so I haven't forgotten the hows, just the whys potentially.

Aren't primers usually sprayed though even if hand painting? I seem to recall hearing that primer is something you never should handpaint.

So the point still stands that Tamiya is not the greatest for hand painting since the primer is spray canned on. I should add on that I do like using standard Tamiya spray cans as well as the primer too for any massive base coats on a single model. I just never had good luck hand painting them, and the times I seen it brought up in gunpla my experiences seem to match others.

Yeah, I use this method for hair and skin and you'll want soft/chalk pastels and matte coating. I use Mr. Super Clear Flat, but there are other options.

>1. matte coat
>2. dry
>3. dab paintbrush on pastel
>4. dab pastel onto plastic
>5. smooth it out with a qtip or paintbrush until pleased - use an eraser (I use a kneaded one for hard to reach places) if you make mistakes
>6. seal with matte coat
If color is not intense enough or you want extra highlights, repeat.
Congrats, you know the bjdfag method now! If you want finer details, you'll have to handpaint them, which can be tedious. I also put gloss on their eyes because matte eyes are weird to me.

>>6234054
Tamashi Stages are decent enough. Get the Gundamy ones (Act 5?) for those fully decked out. FAGs are super lightweight anyway. The stands that come with many of the FAGs (aside from Hamburger) are really awful.

>gloss on their eyes because matte eyes are weird to me.

My options are Vallejo gloss varnish or Future. My batch of Future's all yellowed-out, so I'm scared of using Future again for projects because it's not very... future-proof.

Pastels come in hard/soft, and oil. Obviously, don't get oil pastels. Hard and soft pastels are made of the same ingredients (pure mineral pigments and binder) except hard pastels have more binder and less pigment than soft pastels.

Get soft pastels as they're easier to grind/scrape into powder. Recommend scraping the pastel with the edge of a knife to produce powder rather than using something like sandpaper or an emery board. Sandpaper/emery board just gets clogged up, wasting much of the pastel.

Then, after I put the leg on, I noticed that it was sagging slightly. I eased the leg back off and noticed that the peg was just hanging on by a thread.

I ended up cementing the shit out of it, just so that I didn't end up with a one-legged Jinrai, but now she's stuck fully extended, and there's no telling when the cement is going to give out.

OK THAT IS IT.

Figured I'd get into painting. "After seeing how cool FAGs can look, I owe it to my girls to paint them and make them look awesome!"

If only it were that easy. Spent $100 so far on painting supplies. Mostly primer and spray paints. What did I get out of that? A half-painted Selector Rifle. Ran out of paint, so I'm gonna need to go pick up another can to finish it, then I'll go in to hand-paint little details. I mean, sure, it's gonna look rad, but is it gonna look $100 rad? Probably not. The guide is right. Spray cans are NOT the budget option.

Sigh. At least I can use the colors I got for hand painting on the girls themselves and whatever other weapons I have. But no more spray painting!

One day, I'll have that air brush...!

One day ;_;

Back a zillion years ago I painted the armour on a liger zero using just a single can of tamiya spray paint.

I don't know how the hell you've gone through $100 worth of paint and not achieved anything. Remember you're supposed to spray it on the model, not inhale it.
>>

How does that even happen?

>guide is the collected wisdom(autism) of anons
>chooses to belittle advice

Also, if you're running out of paint painting a single MSG kit then you are fucking up horribly, or you've been using miniscule paint cans

That said, a barebones airbrush setup is not too expensive if you choose to go with a chink airbrush, and your spraycans can be decanted and sprayed through the airbrush, and some handpaint brands can be airbrushed as well. Not too costly a mistake

The selector rifle is a big thing with a bunch of attachments. It's not like I've drenched a small assault rifle in paint or anything. Still, I probably haven't been as efficient as I could have been. Also starting to wonder if my store of choice isn't ripping me off considering how little the mr. Color cans are...
>>
>>6235726
When it's done.

>>6235727
Speaking of which, is $10 for a 40ml can a reasonable price?
>>
>>6235731
... 40ml? Jesus that's tiny. Are you painting metallic?

I have no clue since I don't buy cans, look for Japanese mrsp or on amazon or something
>>
>>6235734
...50ml spray cans are roughly 500 yen. So yes, I'm getting ripped off by paying more than twice as much for 20% less. Why was I so adamant about using Mr. Color anyway? There's a place that's closer to me that sells Tamiya for cheaper. Fuck, I feel dumb as hell.
>>
>>6235727
You mean this thing? It's quite small actually. You fucked up REAL bad if you spent $100 of paint painting half of this. Let me emphasize: REAL bad. This is no garden variety fuckup. Did you give each color like seven coats or some shit? Maybe your spray technique is just horrible and you waste a shit-ton of paint?

>>6235731
That's quite pricey. Tamiya and Mr. Color are considered relatively pricey paints and I get those for about $7 per 100ml can. What on earth brand costs so much, and who even makes 40ml spraycans? In fact, post a pic of your can, I gotta see this tiny fucker for myself.
>>
>>6235737
Well here's the problem, quite a few places won't ship aerosols or paint since they go by air. The legal route is via ship, which can take months to arrive, so if you want paints, local hobby shops are the best place to get them at a reasonable markup.
Just get an airbrush setup and decant all your paint. For comparison, a single pot of airbrush paint is 10ml and lasts about 2 HGs

No, it's not that. I'll post a pic after this post.

The brand is Mr. Color tho, it's just that, like I said, the store I went to is ripping me off.

To be clear tho not all of the $100 is on primer and paint cans for this project. I also spent a decent chunk of that on some jars because I just HAD to have the proper color mix on the teeny tiny metallic highlights on Gourai's armor. And I've already been told that Mr. Color is not good for hand painting, even with small details, so don't bother pointing that out.

...Listen, I don't always make the best choices, ok?
>>
>>6235744
This is the selector rifle.
>>
>>6235753
Jesus, surely there's a better store in your city.
>>
>>6235753
Metallic paints are usually more expensive than normal, and you bought two of them. I'll say the spray can is probably worth 10 bucks, and if you bought others I can see how it quickly adds up

>he tried to handpaint lacquers

You're so misinformed you should absolutely give the guide another once over and go to the gunpla thread for advice.
>>
>>6235753
>And I've already been told that Mr. Color is not good for hand painting

Get their Aqueous line. It's specifically made for hand-painting and really good.
>>

What are they trying to say here? Particularly the on pointing at the thigh piece and the line of text at the bottom.
>>
>>6235796
It means that peg should be oriented at the bottom. See how it's not centered vertically so the position of the piece is important.
>>

You can also use PC C instead of A21 if you like.

Alright, I see, thanks a bunch.
Also, from what I know, the polycaps do not need to be attached to the thigh pieces right? They can also be attached to the crotch piece instead if I remember from what I saw somewhere.
And also, is there any reason to use PC C instead of A21?

Use A21. A21 is the joint they added in later to fix the loose hip joint issue. PC C is the polycap joint that was originally used in the first release.
>>

Price is probably that high because smaller hobbyshops basically have to resorting to smuggling those cans in in the US thanks to something about the paint not making some arbitrary safety standard.

How steady does the Gourai stand? Do the tracks on the back of the feet solidly prevent her from falling backwards?

>>
>>6236162

Just buy some action bases. They're like five bucks each.
>>
>>6236435

Which action base do you use for FAG:s? Koto flying base 3?
>>
I'm thinking of basing the add-ons for my Stylet and Gourai in the Dominance Raptias and Artille.
What was added on those sets? I tried looking for reviews and photos but what I've found looks like two of the same sets cobbled together to make up for lack of bulk.
>>
>>6236525
Raptias has a pair of long wings, two large pods, and a turret/club type weapon.

I don't have Artille, but I know she had a radome/shield and two barrels that attach to become a long railgun.
>>
So I want to use something like the Mr. Color Super Metallic super fine silver (pic) to make a base for the shiny bits like lights and sensors and stuff, but I need something that can be hand-painted. What alternatives would you guys suggest? Would Tamiya's X11 Chrome Silver or Vallejo's Silver work just as well?
>>
>>6236575

Vallejo silver looks kind of poop imo
>>
>>6236517

Just the cheap Bandai ones, bro.
>>
>>6236575
Molotow liquid chrome markers are probably the best easy chrome on the market right now. They're expensive though!
>>
>>6236575

>>
>>6236582
I use metallic sharpies for silver, gold, and bronze.
>>
>>6236587
That's what I hear, but its tiny little things that shouldn't show brush strokes so I think it'll be ok. Plus it'll get painted over with clear paints so whatever.
>>
>>6236575
Super Metallics are NOT for handpainting.
>>
>>6236600
Yes, that's why I asked what would be a good substitute for one.
>>
>>6236575
A lot of people considered games workshop metallic paints to be pretty good when it comes to handbrushing, but that was before they changed their formula like half a dozen times in a couple years. I know a few miniature painters who like Vallejo. In the end it's up to preference, but those are the two brands I've heard referenced.
>>
>>6236575
>metallic hand-paint

Toppest kep. You can either straight up get into gilding or apply a spray basecoat, then apply polishing powder, like that Uschi van der Rosten stuff over it.
>>
>>6236575
For small details Vallejo Model Air Silver (note that even though it's part of the air line, it's perfectly fine for handbrushing and just means it comes thinner by default with slightly smaller particles) should be fine.

Not particularly well, but the tracks will help. Just make sure you position her center of gravity appropriately. It'll help if you add some more mass to her front by holding her arms out forward to compensate for any backpack weight.

>>6236525
Artille Full Barrel has a long gun with these weird hollow barrels, another gun that regular Artille had, a big hand cannon, a pair of cestus, and a radome-shield thing.

Raptias Air Dominance has two large wings with big missile-like pods that can be strapped to them, four knives, a shield and a rifle that you can attach the knives to, and a weird staff thing.

>>6236579
Really? I tried using the Bandai Action Base 2s with my FAs and I never found them to be a good fit. Ordered a bunch of the Koto Flying Base 3s to see how they perform.

So FAGs are the official successor to Shinkis? Why did they even stop the production of them...
>>
>>6236884
No, Megami Devices are the spiritual successor to Busou Shinki.

And why Konami stopped producing them is because it wasn't raking in the money like pachinko does.
>>
>>6236884
There's no official successor.
>>
>>6233033
For some reason she reminds me of Paz from Peacewalker.
>>
>>6236884
There's no official successor. Frame Arms Girl and Megami Device are both successors to the spirit and concept, with Megami Device being closer to the execution.

They stopped producing them because Konami is full of terrible decision making. See also choosing to end production, then make an anime a few months later to drive up demand for products they were no longer selling.
>>
>>6236884
Megami Device essentially uses an updated shinki body made by the sasme dude who made the original shinki bodies.

everyone is extremely biased and salty, with good reason, over Konami's o9ne year transformation into the worst company ever, but what they say isn't entirely true. There were reports, unconfirmed admittedly, that there were issues with the factories in china that use to make shinkis. They had a hard time finding a new company and were largely unable to justify the costs neccessary to make more. This was YEARS before Konami became so focused on their pachinko and mobile gaming.

I mean, I just built a 1/12 Detolf from scratch, and handmade some tiny dakis so printing out a piece of paper, cutting it out, and folding it isn't a very big time investment compared to that.
