get a model kit, Gundam, Zoids, Frame Arms, Frame Arms Girls, don't matter what, just get one. You will be completely hooked to how fun and rewarding it feels to just build a plastyic robot.

Actually I should rephrase, maybe avoid the HMM zoids until you tackle something more user friendly engineered like Bandai HG kits. In general snap kit model building is not hard as long as you can follow instructions like a lego build, but HMM just gets very crazy with tiny parts and bits that snap too easily.
