Starlin was originally going to base him off of Metron, but someone convinced him just copy Darkseid instead.
Darkseid is a god, obsessed with controlling everything. Thanos is an alien, who is obsessed with death.

You're probably thinking of the Eternals, which was created by Kirby. Same basic archetypes, because he never got a chance to finish his New Gods story at DC.

Darkseid was made by Jack Kirby for DC, which was based off his idea of new gods that would have came after Marvel's Thor experienced Ragnarok and killed the Asgardians. When Marvel wouldn't go for the Ragnarok idea, Kirby kept the idea to use for when he got free reign to do something, which was what DC offered him.

Kirby later went back to Marvel and made the Eternals, which are similar to the New Gods he created for DC, of which Darksied is the big bad. Kirby did not create Thanos, though.

Jim Starlin created Thanos, and made him an Eternal. Initially Starlin made Thanos look more like Metron (a different New God who was more like space god Spock) and was told to make him look more like Darkseid since Darkseid was the more famous one.

But Kirby did not make Thanos.

So this is pretty much the best 1/12 Superman figure released so far, which is kind of pathetic. Not that it's a bad figure, its actually pretty good, but it certainly has its flaws and honestly Superman deserves far better than he's gotten.

I've given serious thought into it but I just can't come to terms with the fact that they have cloth costumes. It works wonderfully with the Dark Knight Returns one but doesn't make sense to me with the DCEU ones.

Forgive me if this is a very general question, but I'm looking into DC collecting at around the 7" scale. I've only got some Marvel selects and a NECA Illidan. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Arkham line for Batman figures and the DC collectibles deluxe robo-suit Luthor. Are there any good general DC figures at that size? Mainly would be interested in Deathstroke, Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Darkseid. Obviously I don't mind Darkseid being a bit oversize. I was considering the DC Icons one but I'm not crazy about the design.

If you ask someone to draw the Adam West Batman costume, they'd get some iconic features down like the eybrows. If you asked the same of the Burton movies, they'd get at least something, like the yellow belt and yellow symbol. Schumacker would have batnipples.

Baleman is basically a bunch of shitty unoriginal armor slapped together. There's nothing that stands out. It's an X-Men movie costume with a cowl and cape. They'd recognize it because it's Batman and everyone saw those movies, but nothing about it stands out or makes it iconic.

I guess I would say the Baleman suit was...inoffensive. I didn't get excited about it, cause it's not an exciting suit, and I couldn't tell you any strong defining details of it even if you were torturing me. But I wasn't offended by it either. As for your other complaints, I see where you're coming from, but I also think you're too wrapped up in your own idea of what Batman "should" be. Batman films are all adaptations, filtered through the director's vision--and that's okay. It doesn't negate the comics or retcon them. Think of it as an alternate universe if anything. I acknowledge that Nolan's movies are quite flawed, but I think he made some calls for the sake of realism--for the tone he wanted to set.

Nolan made a conscious choice to step away from some of the bigger camp/fantasy elements of the DC Universe to give us this sort of cold, bleak vision of Gotham City. And like I said before, that's fine. We've had the polar opposite too, with Schumacher. And the world keeps turning. Tomorrow we'll likely have another, totally different, totally comic-inaccurate Batman film series. Just chill and learn to appreciate each one for its unique take on Bats.

First wave Batman was a manlet even for a strict 1/12 scale, but pictures seem to point that later figures were a bit better. Also, can we expect future Batmen down the line to be taller?

This Batgirl has rad accessories, but I think I actually prefer the one above--it has a more youthful and happy look to the face. The DCC one looks older and more serious, and the face looks like it has this heavy-lidded ironic smirk kind of expression.
