>TF2 line never completed cause it sold like shit
>Dota 2 line never got past prototype phase because Valve didnt want to get burned twice

It triggers me that my TF2 collection will only ever be half complete
>>
>>6125973
I don't think Valve will ever say, but I'd love to know what actually happened with those. It couldn't have been poor sales, because every time neca gets asked, they say they've got them ready to go and are waiting on valve. Valve's MO is basically to throw money at things to see what happens, if they wanted to they could have neca make the rest and just give them away.

I don't play either game, but I'm curious to see what happens with the DOTA 2 figmas.
>>
>>6125993
It's not that hard to figure out on your own. Valve is a pretty shit company that just abandons ideas when they get bored. The fact that their bi monthly comic took almost a year and half to update should be enough of a clue there. You'll never see a dota figure for sale. Or if you do, you'll get one or two with the rest promised later and see nothing come of that.
>>
>>6126001
Well there are 2 Figma, but I'm going to guess that will be it.
>>
This motherfucker
>>
>>6125993

I sort of agree with >>6126001

There have been alot of talks about Valve just wanting to drop TF2 and move on from it despite it's loyal fanbase. Whether this true or not or why they cut the line short is hard to say but definitely possible.

Dont know if they'll make more figmas, while the Windrunner and AntiMage ones are very nice, they don't seem to be popular enough and I see plenty of them available around the web.

I'd fucking kill for a Juggernaut though, I don't know why they chose Anti Mage over good ol' Jugg.

Sven would be awesome too.
>>
>>6125689

I started the "Cancelled Springer" meme.

Just wanted to fuck with people and see how much anal pain could be caused by an actual desired figure being allegedly cancelled.

I have some solace that we're getting Mai as a nendo, but I hope that with the new Street Fighters figuarts of Ryu and Chun-Li, Bandai gives another try to make KOF figures.

>make me wonder how this is the only pic of the D-Arts Mai, Kyo and Kim, seems like no one could ever take more pics

>>
>>6126226
SOTA couldn't sculpt ladies for shit, I never understood it, most companies go out of their way to make sure the ladies are extra good but all the SOTA Street Fighter female figs looked like ass. Probably has something to do with the owner being in the closet, idk. Like he just wasn't judging lady sculpts with the same boner driven criticism that most guys would.
>>
>>6126926
I think it has to do with the fact that they're not good cartoonists.
Male characters you can keep adding details and it still looks fine, if a little off. Females you have to do more simplistic sculpts with and tone it down to keep that idealistic feminine beauty. This is why 3d face scans of females are hated, because there's no make up to hide the fact that the difference between male and female faces aren't as extreme as hollywood/tv make up lies.

A lot of great sculptors aren't good at cartoonizing their artwork/style

tl;dr: you have high expectations and dislike sharp knees

I would have given ANYTHING for that Evil Jim. Fuck. His headsculpt and handsculpts and that golden gun are so, so good.

It happens. The Darkstalker figure prototypes were shown in like 2007 or so, and for whatever reason they just hadn't upped their game with their female figures. Head and body were usually nightmare fuel.

But then again, look at the competition at the time in the west for fully articulated figures, not staction figures. It was a dark age.

The only pic I found for D-Arts Mai was a shot of her foot which I posted on a forum years ago but the forum is now dead so I couldn't retrieve it anymore.

The S.H. Figuarts Ryu and Chun Li must sell well if we ever want other fighting game franchise to made made into figures because if the most popular fighting game series doesn't sell then what more of other series?

What is with/was with Playmates? They always show a bunch of prototypes, usually all painted, then cancel them at the last minute like some sort of psuedo Grinch (Which is ironic since they had the license for the 2000 movie and managed to release all the toys for the line.).

Even their trademark toylines aren't safe.

Man it was a shame the WoW line sold so poorly and got future sets and the Strarcraft line cancelled, because the WoW sets were actually really really well made.

Sadly to many people Megabloks just holds the Stigma of "shitty lego" when in fact they have made a lot of headway in block quality.

I LOVE the Vigna Ghina and would just about die of happiness if it and the Vigna Zirah got released. Buuuuut....let's face it, this sculpt isn't great. It's a little too mushy for my tastes and I don't love the proportions. If it does ever get a release, I hope Bandai goes back to the drawing board first.

I think there end goal is a TF2 updated by it's playerbase, and that's happening as we speak (two fan updates Frontline and a jungle based one)

Honestly the TF2 line couldn't stand for anything and was kinda shoddy. If anything I'm guessing Figma could be their toy line of choice now.

Kaiyodo had a Trigun line in the early 2000's that got cancelled halfway through. Meryl was released, and her base was clearly designed to connect to another one, so Millie was likely planned as well.
>>
>>6128908
The Trigun line was so weird, though, Kaiyodo said from the start they only planned 6 unique molds of show characters and like 2 or 3 OCs. We got 1 oc, of course, along with Vash, Meryl, Wolfwood, and that big guy whose name I forget. Monev? Monev! We were going to get Legato, so who did that leave? It seems weird that they weren't planning Knives, and yet all signs pointed towards Millie. Why did it get canned, anyway? It sold so fucking well.

It's funny because the Toytribe line was actually led/made by Yasuhiro Nightow the creator of trigun.

So you would have thought he would have had some power to try and push out all the releases of his own IP. Especially as Kaiyodo was pretty small at the time.
>>
>>6132020
Well, it was a collab between the two companies...maybe Kaiyodo decided it wasn't selling as well as they wanted and shut it down. Or heck, maybe Nightow himself wanted to move on to other things (doubtful, I know, but around that time he started developing the Revolver joint, so he might have been excited about starting on that project instead).

The Legendary Hero's line was a spin off of ToyBiz's Marvel Legends specifically dedicated to "Indi" Superhero's like Savage Dragon, Judge Dredd, Madman and other Image comics characters and the like.

They made it two series plus two two-packs before Toybiz went under.

These are some prototypes for series three, based on some of the supporting characters from Image Comics.

>>In a surprising move, ReSaurus has announced that it has taken over the Mech Warrior license previously announced by Palisades Marketing. The change of plans is reported to be generated by the licensor. It is reported that the switch in plans is an amicable passing of the torch between the companies.

>>ReSaurus is showing two sample Mechs at Toy Fair, but these designs should not even be considered prototypes, but are rather simply sales samples to provide the mass market buyers some visual representation of what a Mech Warrior line might consist of. Even so, these early designs look pretty faithful to the game itself and were created very quickly by the talented ReSaurus staff. We are pleased to be able to bring you the news and your first look at what the new line might entail.

Never ever.

>>
>>6132743
Nah. Closest they came was the Bushwhacker on the far left there.

Battletech was a really weird toyline. I was really into Mechwarrior at the time and I still couldn't get behind this line. They felt weirdly cheapo and shitty. The plastic felt hollow and sorta brittle, the sculpts were very basic and chunky, there were VERY minimal paint apps (most of what you see is stickers), and they used this really neon safety orange plastic that made everything look cheesy. In addition, the pilots had no painted facial details so they looked kinda ghoulish and creepy. Like mannequins. It just wasn't a good toyline, and I remember it not selling well at my local stores.

>>6132743
Okay, storytime: While it never happened in the Battletech line, Playmates was planning a toy for the Exo-Squad line that was a dead ringer for the Madcat. After this ad was shown, FAFSA sued them. I believe in the end Playmates was found to not have violated copyright law, but the toy was never released anyway for whatever reason.

If you Google around, you can find the entire transcript of the lawsuit. It's actually kind of fascinating if you're an Exo-Squad/Battletech fan. It goes over a lot of the respective universes and design concepts as each side tries to make a case. In one portion, FAFSA directly makes accusations about specific toys, and Playmates must come up with reasons as to why their toys are significantly different. I found it a really interesting read.

One of the coolest parts is where they discuss how the prototype of this toy was made: it was apparently cobbled together using random Japanese model kit parts, a box for the torso, a GI Joe gun for one arm, a pantyhose container for the nosecone, and an ED-209 model kit (!!!!) for the other arm and legs! I never noticed it before, but now it's very apparent, the ED-209 toes are so distinctive. Really interesting shit....
>>
>>6132797
Oops, shit, I just realized I wrote FAFSA in the post instead of FASA. My fault, it's late and I was just dealing with my financial aid for school so I had FAFSA on the brain.

>>
>>6132797
> but the toy was never released anyway for whatever reason
likely the delay thanks to courts that shit can take years to clear up, they likely were in court over a year and that was just over the prototype, no production model yet.
Alternatively after that suit the fear of getting sued by others for the mishmash parts might have done it end.
>>
>>6132832
yes but that east vs west headache makes things easier to be shameless. short of a few insane companies most won't try and start a overseas lawsuit because you win nothing where the cost and times are so massive.
>>
>>6132771
Oh god yesterday I would have sworn to you I owned an Atlas toy, but it was a goddamn Marauder... ugh. How did they make all the wrong choices on mechs?
>>
>>6129127
The toy yes but not the line. However it likely got lost because they already knew the line was scrap (beast machines really spook them to take a year off and rework the brand) so it was likely a guy just going "fuck it" and kept it.
>>
>>6132609

I don't even know who this is and I would have bought him immediately. Damn...ToyBiz definitely had their problems, but LCBH was an excellent "fuck you" to Hasbro right after they snatched away the Marvel license. While Hasbro was still struggling to figure out Marvel Legends and releasing some decidedly mediocre figures, Toybiz was churning out some of the best toys of their entire career.

I went back to my parents' house recently and found my old Pitt BAF in storage. I hadn't seen it in years, and looking back now, it blows my fucking mind that this was a pack-in BAF. It's almost ludicrously bulky, and the sculpting and paint are absolutely perfect. It's a goddamn tragedy that LCBH didn't go on further than it did.

>>6128026
Every time I see anything from this series, I just remember how my first ex was obsessed with that show. She had been drooling over this big transforming version of that mech that turned into a dragon from some virtually no-name company. I looked up as much info as I could on it and I think I even made a thread asking about it here as well to find out if the thing was legit and most reception was fairly negative because it was fiddly and the plastic was fragile. Tried to warn her but she insisted on getting it anyway, paying like $200+ for it. When she finally got it, she tried to transform it, was frustrated by how fiddly all the little panels and shit were, and then immediately snapped an important joint. I tried to warn her but she didn't listen, then she ham-handed it and broke her grail and wasted money, then was butthurt and pissy towards me for the rest of the day. That was a really satisfying day, in hindsight. She was a real cunt.

hmmmm not a toy collector but had tons of stuff as a kid, still do. I was spoiled but never asked for this stuff.

I have that purple thing so pretty sure that was released. I think it had light? or you could look through it or something. Never had the megatron.

I wish I had a pick but there were plans for a Gundam MkIII (yes the this guy) for the U.S. MSIA line when Zeta was supposed to be released here.

Capcom has retards in their licensing department if a company making 3.75" figures prevented everyone else from making any other sort of action figure.
Nevermind that Japanese licensing allows for 1 and done deals for non-scale figures.

also, fuck 4 Horsemen for giving up.

And we never got a kit of any of the suits that showed up in the middle, such as the Recsnow and the Wuxia, since Bandai didn't think G-Reco would move kits well and then it rushed to put out more of the endgame suits.

On a related note, you do realize the Catsith is literally just a GM with wings, and the guy removed the wings and added a Ground Gundam weapon pack.

Why do you want the same designs copypasted over and over again?
>>
>>6190313
I don't. I'm all for inventive new designs, like I'm loving how different IBO is for example. But I can't resist a good GM.
>>
>>6190324

I should love IBO designs, since they're all inspired by Nagano, but something about each design turns me off. That and the fact that they copypasted the Graze/Barbados for an entire season and sold the weapons separately made me not want to buy anything.
>>
>>6190345
The weapon packs were great though. They allowed you to pick and choose what you wanted to outfit your MS with, skipping the shit ones and buying extras of the good ones.

Plus, this is just a suspicion, but I think the separate weapon packs might have had something to do with why the IBO kits were so ridiculously cheap compared to average HGs.
>>
>>6190358

Yeah, but Bandai used to have everything in the box and has been stripping stuff out for a while.

The original 1/100 V2 had Wings of Light and but the new MG made them P-Bandai.

The HGUC Ground Gundam doesn't come with one of the missile launchers the original 1/144 does.

I would rather pay a 1000 yen more for everything than to buy another kit.
>>
>>6151235
They never released her with her SHARK porsche.

And I don't think it's because she's a girl when considering that Manta with Vanessa's one of the more valuable ones.
>>
>>6190057

>cancelled

Nah, it's going to be the next kickstarter after ML2 is over.
>>
>>6190368
I would be more upset about this (re: IBO) if the kits weren't cheaper to account for it. Like I said, it's a perfect system. Those who want all the weapons can pay a little more and get them. Those who don't can get a base-level kit with a few accessories for cheap. Everyone is happy. Except you apparently, cause you have some weird hangup about buying two cheap kits as opposed to one expensive one. Within an isolated series, this scheme works really well, cause accessories can usually be shared between different MS without looking weird.

Here where it gets fucked up though--I'm all cool with the IBO way of selling separate accessory packs, but I HATE when they make accessories P-Bandai or simply don't ever release them. Both the Wings of Light and the Ground Gundam missile launcher fall under that category. In that case, yes, I agree with you, all parts should be included in the box for a slightly higher price.

Transtech Cheetor. The TF community has been drooling over that one for many, many years. The proto was lost in the mail or stolen or something like that (sorry my memory sucks). In any case, it's gone forever and we will never get that toy.

Well it's 2017 and if your character is a girl but it isn't animu waifufaggotry, Hot Toys or a BJD, it's most likely the sculpt will be shit. Even most fashion dolls are horrid sculps hidden under good paintjobs, just like most real women's faces.

Overwatch's Widowmaker has the prettiest cartoony female face to date, all you had to do was translate the 3D model to resin and they still fucked it up.
