For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

I suppose this is the thread to ask.
Is there anyway I could possibly acquire and/or make specific parts to models? I'm trying to build the RX-78 GP03 Dendrobium but found out I'm missing three pieces that are pretty damn necessary for finishing it. Worst part is I don't have the faintest idea where these pieces could be. My dad bought the model over a decade ago. Since he never put it together I figured I might as well go ahead. The parts were in 3 separate tote boxes all kept in their plastic but pic related are the three pieces I can't find.
>>
Hey Guys!

So I'm pretty new to Gunpla in general (I'm loving building the kits, but I don't love Gundam all that much)

So I'm not a huge fan of the real Gundam-y looking guys (Mk II Face) Any kit suggestions for varied interesting designs? I was looking at maybe getting the RG Z'gok.

>>
>>6064190
HG 00 is still in a league of its own. Exia just felt dated, even when it came out. It's got floppy ankles, and the chest just doesn't stay together right if you move the arms.
>>
Are there other MG's that are as tall/big as Perfect Zeong?
>>
>>6064139
That's Vaiola, from The Five Star Stories.

>Any kit suggestions for varied interesting designs?
Look into mobile suits from Zeta, ZZ, Turn A and G-Reco.

Honestly though, you really ought to look into resin and vinyl kits. There aren't a whole lot of injection plastic kits that really deviate from the typical Gundam look, unfortunately. Look up Maschinen Krieger, The Five Star Stories and Dragon's Heaven.
>>
>>6064190
The season 2 gundams had an overhauled joint layout and are nothing alike. In the 00 HG line they're the best bar none, even the movie kits are worse (though that's partially because of the mecha design being obstructive).

The Exia has mediocre range of motion and the hip things that hold the swords fall out and all sorts of shit. It's not terrible IMO, definitely not worse than the very old HGUC kits, but for its time it wasn't good.

Well bad news, your options for replacement parts are shit here in the west. The only way to get replacement parts are through buying new kits, buying them from Bluefin (but only if you bought the kit through Bluefin), or buying them through a middleman in Japan since Bandai only sells replacement parts in Japan. The worse news, if you're building the 1/144 HGUC Dendrobium (in which case I wonder why your father even bought it if he was never going to build it) the model costs $200 new. You're basically shit out of luck, which sucks because it's not every day someone gets a Dendrobium for free. Also if they were all kept in their plastic they must be around somewhere. Keep looking.

>>
Stupid question, but how often do you guys glue your kits together? I know most modern articulated kits snap together pretty well, but I've got a couple that like to fall apart when I try to pose them. I basically just fit put them together, paneled them, and said "I'll polish them later" but how typical is it to glue things together?
>>
>>6065430
If it's a particularly shitty connection and it's not mobile I do. The red piece in the HGCE Aile Strike's head comes to mind.
>>
>>6065430
I do it if I see something that looks like it won't stay together which isn't often. Past that seam welding is technically gluing things together and that's fairly common, though not for the purposes of structural integrity or anything.

Descibes most of his buying habits back in the early 2000's. Especially if it was nice and shiny from Japan. At the very least I'm gonna try to keep building the pieces that don't directly connect to those iron plates.

Where in the hell would I find a Japanese middleman anyway? I haven't the faintest idea where to start, 2ch?

It's a great kit, nearly all of the Option sets are designed to work with the basic Graze due to most of the models being derivatives!

If I hadn't realized you were talking about the 1/100 scales, I'd say go for Carta's Graze Ritter, since it comes with everything to make a Graze Ritter Commander as well as a regular Graze in Sky Blue.

I've got a question, my nippers were fine last week but today I opened it and it was just rusted all over, anything I can do to salvage it by myself?
>>
>>6065627
Sand off the rust.
>>
>>6065628
alright, so I'm assuming this method works fine for Tamiya nippers too right? I'm going to soak it in vinegar tmr if that works, before sanding it off with the steel wool?

http://www.popularmechanics.com/home/tools/how-to/a14313/how-to-restore-rusted-old-hand-tools/
>>
>>6065628
also, any tips how to keep it rust free or store it safely? It didn't touch any water when I last used it and the many times I've used it before it didn't have any rust, this was over a course of a week and it's just completely covered in rust. I was pretty surprised to see it happen, never happened to me before.
>>
>>6065627
You can WD40 it and wipe off the rust, but chances are that it has lost its edge due to the rusting. Nothing you can do about that unless you are good at precision grinding blades.

Next time you buy a nipper, oil it after every use to prevent rusting. You can use sewing machine oit/lubricant, WD-40, etc.
>>
>>6065633
Just get a metal brush. No need for steel wool, plus depending on how fine it is steel wool disintegrates and causes lung problems, and since it's just steel stranding it'll rust if you wetsand it (after the oil washes off it)
>>
>>6065636
Store them in a sealed container.

>>
>>6065789
If you see rust on the cutting edge, that bit's ruined. If you don't remove the rust and seal it from moisture, the rusting will propagate.

The nippers are machine-grind so that the cutting edges line up with each other which is what you're mostly paying for and what differentiates a $3 wire cutter to a $10 modelling nipper to a $30 nipper . It's practically impossible for you to obtain the same precision at home by hand.

Well you can, but the forearm armor it slots into doesn't even have the same hardpoint slots as the other arm.

So, you can't plug the Graze Shield into either, and you can't even plug the Long Rifle or Lance on the left arm.

Dragon 1:35 Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.F that I received from Secret Santa.

Pz III is so easy to build; no leaf springs to clean up. There is one fit problem in all of Dragon's Pz IIIs and that is the idler. There is a large gap between the idler cover and the rear plate. I did an initial fill with CA and will putty over top of that.

Dragon is usually pretty good, but their instructions are the worst. Their kits are hit and miss. They keep milking older molds by making paper panzers, but don't bother to change the instructions and are taking out the PE, clear parts, and indy link tracks. Their Black Label line is called the Black Plague line because of how poorly detailed and inaccurate they are. Just find a subject you like and look up the kits available. Their Pz IIIs, StuG IIIs, and Panthers are great. Just make sure to get a modern one and not an older boxing.
>>
>>6066483

Only option for Su-47 is the Zvezda 1/72 and it's many reboxings.

New HobbyBoss kit is the best 1/48 Flanker. 1/72 is a toss-up. (Comparison build on ARCForums.) (Hasegawa makes an awesome 1/72 Su-33. Kinetic Su-33 in 1/48 (Designed by another company and bought out.))

Hasegawa for Draken, 1/48 and 1/72.

Not really the best for seam line removal, you mainly use it for filling gaps or carving into shapes

That's not odd. Hi-nu and especially Homer Simpson Gundam are both way uglier than Nu, so they're less likely to sell so they need to be cheaper.

This is a great kit, it got me back into gunpla last year after about a decade hiatus. There's so many parts to fiddle around with. Just don't lose the butt prop, it's nearly impossible to balance with the rear cone or cannons on if you don't use it as support. Any other configuration is fine without it though.

Am I doing something wrong? They still seem to go through plastic just fine, and I cut off the rest with a reasonably sharp hobby knife. I'm not sure why people make such a big deal out of the sharpness of their nippers.

So, I got a second "Package received" message from my appartment today and there was a box just big enough for a kit waiting alongside my HLj order. Haven't opened it yet, but given that it's addressed to "Anon instead of my full name and that its from a Japanese seller common over amazon for gunpla that I have no recollection of ordering from I am going to guess it's the other gift and tracking is just wrong.

And your stuff arrived safely and I'm wrapping it now.

I envy you anon. I started my gunpla hobby around a month ago but my family usually thinks any of my hobbies are dumb and would rather gift me whatever they think is better, which usually ends up being something I don't need/use despite warning them about it (and expensive, too).

Of course, that is when they feel like sending me something, since I live on my own and have little contact with them nowadays.

Yeah I'm getting nervous. I'm still gonna send some gifts out but not near as many as I would have had he y'know, responded in any way at all.

I may give some of the gifts I was going to send to the anons who will inevitably get gypped. I don't need another Kshatriya anyway.

Watch he sends me a ton of gifts and is just too busy to post and all of the sudden I'm the bad guy. This Secret Santa stuff is hard.

Yeah, would not recommend it to those with anxiety issues. I do what I can when I can, but it's not a perfect system.
>>
>>6067944
>all of the sudden I'm the bad guy.
I would say you definitely are thinking about this the wrong way. If someone grinches me, I don't start thinking about grinching someone else.
Secret Santa isn't about getting a gift, it's about giving one.
>>
>>6067951
I'm talking about giving $60 worth of kits instead of $100. Gifts will still be sent regardless of how I feel about it.
>>
Is it often that people overseas join the secret santa? I live in the middle of nowhere and I would like to join next time there is a gift exchange.

Wait, I thought the person we send gifts to is the one who also sends gifts to us, is that not the case?
>>
>>6067946
Keep track of who is assigned who and whether or not they actually sent something out to their ss. I have a feeling a certain someone joined this year and didn't plan on sending out anything like they were supposed to.
>>
>>6067973
I try to, but I'll probably open a form this year for people to let me know if they never received a gift.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but I just got a tank like the Pz. IV in this post
>>6066648
and I realized I don't know much about putting these together.

I found out pretty quickly that things don't snap together neatly like on gundams. I found the guides above that mention glue and I've heard about plastic cement, can't really find much info on this cement. Is it different from just plastic glue? And is there a particular brand to buy or is it adequate to go with a generic brandless glue that's designed for plastics? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>6068023
I'm willing to donate a few kits too, but how will we know who's actually been jipped? Seems like thats ripe for scamming as well.
>>
>>6068082
There is no plastic glue, only plastic cement. Tamiya is the best.

Yeah there is, called super glue.

And yeah, unless you need to weld seams, super glue is perfectly fine for gluing together plastic parts. If anything, super glue won't melt super tiny or super thin parts if you put too much of it.
>>

Based on your definition, Elmer's is a plastic glue.

>>
>>6068141
Just don't pick a weak one like those tiny bathroom fans. They work, but they're not nearly enough.
>>
>>6068082
Plastic cement is pretty much a necessity working with military models. Super glue has its uses too, but plastic cement is what you'll be using mostly.
Lots of hobby brands have their own cement, just go to your local hobby shop or use amazon

Cement temporarily melts the plastic of the surfaces in contact and then it evaporates, fusing the pieces together

>>
>>6068618
You're doing a pretty good job considering your toolset. Honestly, you might be hitting the limit with what you're working with. Nicer sandpaper and clippers will make a world of difference.

I see some stress marks on the plastic (the shoulder shield on the left, for example). That white mark means that while you're clipping it off the runner, when you're slicing down the nub is actually pulling against the part before the cut takes place. That's not too surprising with nail clippers, but one thing you can do is try to cut the pieces off so that there's plenty of nub left over on the parts. Once the piece is completely off the runner, then you can go back and trim/sand more off. Nice sanding tools/paper will help you out during that final stretch a lot.

Keep up the good work
