>Not making a dinosaur version of this.
It's like they hate money.
>>
>>6026712
>implying they aren't making money
they're drowning in it. I was at Toys R Us yesterday and all of them were gone and nearby I heard some grandparents lamenting how popular they are.

>>
So these things are basically a modern generation's Furby?

As in it's cool for about 15 minutes, then it gets put in a bin and forgotten. I'll never forget that stupid Furby thing I had, I put it in a storage bin and it would still make noises sometimes out of fucking nowhere. For years that happened...
>>
They're probably going to, when furby came out everyone went fucking nuts about it and then like >>6026744 said, they got fucking ignored. Then a few months later they released "SHELLBY" and everyone went fucking nuts again only to wind up ignoring them again just like the furbies.

I saw so many fucking special edition furbies sit and rot shelfwarming, the most notable was "king furby" where they put a fucking cape, a staff, and a crown on a normal furby and acted like it was the hottest shit, it reminded me of that simpsons episode where malibu stacy HAD A NEW HAT WHOA.

These things are gonna do the same thing, keep an eye on the other thread where we've been talking about them. Watch the fucking returns on the 26th and watch the shelves fill up with returned discount ones even though they're probably already hatched.

In fact, that's whats gonna be fucked up about them, they made something you can only do the main feature of ONCE. Who the hell will buy the ones that get returned?
>>
>>6026744
the actual toy itself is pretty shit and has less features than a furby. the hatching process is pretty much the only selling point of it.
but kids love dumb stuff like this, i just feel sorry for the parents
>>

>>
>>6026712
Trying to get one of these for my niece but they're fucking sold out everywhere here in the UK and the scalpers are having a field day
>>
>>6029555
>buy it
>scalp it
>fund her college
When I was a starving student I made a pretty penny off fortuitous acquisitions and desperate parents with deep pockets.
>>
>>6026712
>Watch the fucking returns on the 26th
Except once they're out of the egg, that's it. It can't be put back in and I don't reasonably expect any retailer to accept returns.
>>
>>6029742
>They'll flood the shelves after christmas worse than POPS do
>>
At the store I work in, we keep having to turn people away because we're saving all our stock for Black Friday. And even then we're only going to have 20. They're going to have one cop in the store, and this is the item he'll be stationed at.

I don't see them getting returned immediately, but I do see retailers ordering mass amounts for next Christmas based on this year only to have them just sit around. Last year the hot thing was that Pie Face game, we couldn't keep them on the shelves. So of course this year we have the new Pie Face Showdown, and they hardly look like they're moving.
>>
>>6030423
so the cop will be posted at an item which will be grabbed up literally in a minute. Does he get to leave after that?

The hatched chick isn't even cute. What can it even do? Is it as interactive as a Furby? I doubt it...
>>
From youtube comments it looks like all those retards want it because it looks soooo cuuuute.
They don't seem to care about the hatching, it's just an extra gimmick to make this ugly shit stand out more. It just makes this shit recognizable from other shitty toys.

What the fuck is wrong with that faded out kid in the background of the page

They look like a clipart cartoon character and the hatchimal is way bigger than it really is.
>>
>>6029726
I recently spent almost two weeks in bed due to an abscessed tooth and its fever. No lie, if I saw some Hatchimals, I would buy and scalp every single one to pay for an extraction. I have got no pity left for parents who spend $200+ on stupid shit like this. The 9/10 dental pain has burned all the empathy out of me.

We made a extra queue line for our hatchimals for the black friday event so people don't just take armfuls/kill each other over them, but then they decided not to let anyone line up at all until 6pm when they go on sale, so there's sure to still be a blood bath, it's gonna be delicious.

So, as far as the UK is concerned, Tesco have mailed everyone to say they have no more of their exclusive items (Bearakeets) and won't be getting any this side of xmas and the only place you can regularly find any is ebay.

>>6052026
Nah, it was pretty chill, despite no one actually bothering to design a line using yellow tape or get extra wristbands so we just handed out pieces of paper(fucking management). Apparently there was a squabble about line spots before I got there to manage it but after all the hatchimals were assigned there were no problems(except for the guy who got in line at the end and nobody told him we were out, sorry pal). I did find it funny an assistant manager had a plain clothes cop escort her to the pharmacy( where we sold them) with the cart full of hatchimals.
>>
>>6047139
That is an interesting idea, unlike most toys, These have a very distinct MIB mode that can't be returned to after opening and playing with. I wonder if that would drive up their value after the craze is over and they stop making them(probably not, since they'll have hatchimals 2: electric boogaloo then).
>>
Do you think if I wait and sell a bit before christmas; that it will go up in price even further?
>>
>>6030850
Are these honestly $50 MSRP? Holy shit! I'm in line at 2am for the NES Mini and there are a couple people also who are also in for the NES Mini but also these Hatchimals.
So they just sit and then hatch and then that's it?
>>
>>6052496
Unless you're gonna scalp that NES Mini, I'd wait for January when they will be in plentiful demand, or just build a Pi.
Fucked if I'm getting up at 2AM for anything. ANYTHING.

Dude, mine stayed alive for years as well! I swear, those things had one hell of a battery saver on them. Mine eventually just started sleeping all the time. I'd wake it up and it would decide it wanted to just go back to sleep within a minute so I got bored of it. Years later, I found the thing in a box of my old crap and I picked it up and flipped it upside down. To my surprise, the fucker woke up! He just went back to sleep immediately but he was still alive. I'd find it again every year or so as I was rummaging for something and try again and sure enough, the little bastard would wake up and fall right back asleep. This lasted for over a decade. It wasn't until I came home from my last year of college in 2011 that he had finally stopped waking up. He was among the first wave ever back in 1998 and he lived all the way up until at least 2010 on the same set of batteries that we put in on day 1. I don't fucking know how.
>>
>>6026788
The "hot christmas toy of the year" phenomenon is so fucking bizarre. Back then, it used to make sense because it was always some toy that utilized some new idea or tech but as of maybe the last 10 years, it has always been something pretty mundane by the standards of the year. Hatchimals are the same. It's Furby all over again with virtually the same tech. These yearly hot toy items lately are always something that is obscenely sought after with no justification. I swear, there has to be some sort of sinister marketing conspiracy going on here. It's like somebody is starting rumors that these things are going to be hot and that makes people think they have to get them too because they must be amazing and it just spreads from there until we have children throwing tantrums over wanting them and parents tearing each others throats out in toy aisles to obtain one. Deep down, nobody actually wants them but somebody is subliminally planting the idea that they need them into their heads. Hatchimals popularity especially doesn't add up with today's generation of kids. It's everything they hate in a toy, waiting to be able to play with it, a gimmick that only happens once, the lack of choice in what you actually end up with, and the complete lack of any real interactivity with the toy as it sits and does things and you occasionally touch it to "feed" it or whatever, yet kids everywhere are somehow being convinced they have to have it. Even with the kids that know better, parents that want to get their kids that "ultimate surprise gift" think all kids must want them so they waste their time, effort, and money to get one for their child in hopes of pleasing them. It's insane. Then a week or two after Christmas, the things are always abandoned, despite the tantrums, fights, and mad rushes to obtain them. What the fuck is going on here?
>>
>>6057263
Scalp it and save the money in case you need surprise dental surgery.
>>
What the fuck is life? People keep harassing me at my job for knock off Furbies and I just have to stand there for hours telling them to fuck off because we DON'T FUCKING HAVE ANY. WE GET LIKE 5 AT A TIME ON A SUNDAY, LEAVE ME ALONE. I DON'T FUCKING HAVE ANY. Save me.
>>
>>6059038
The bargaining is pretty hilarious. "Can you save one for me? Can I order online and save one before it comes in?what hours do your truck come in, should I check everyday?"

Had a woman call and was mad that we were sold out saying "we were supposed to save two for her" when I know no one would agree to that.

I've even had one woman say to me, exact words" What can I do for you to guarantee me one?" Needless to say I walked away as fast as possible(she was nasty). PEOPLE ARE LITERALLY WHORING THEMSELVES OUT OVER THESE THINGS.

We also have a sign up when we're out(which is 95% of the time) yet people still fucking ask, like we're secretly hiding them and only if they say the password will we sell them one. Also, the phone calls, the fucking phone calls. I really need to tell whoever answers the phone to just tell calling people no.
>>
I'm trying to figure these things out. W-what exactly are they? Like, they hatch out of a plastic egg? Couldn't you just like open it yourself?

I dont really understand the mechanics of it basically.
>>

If memory serves, the packaging is designed so that as you remove the egg from the blister, it pulls out some little tab inside the egg that was keeping the toy from hatching (presumably just one of those plastic tabs they put between batteries on some packaged toys).

ignore him, he's an asshole that buys used cartridges and gets mad at anyone who emulates the same games for free- even though buying used games doesn't give the publishers a dime, either. Anti-emulation twats tend to be conservative corporate whore Gamergate backers who still listen to heavy metal even though that genre died in the 90s, so they have no valid opinion. They can't even spend money properly which is why their homes look like thrift stores, and they buy games they don't even want to "collect" them which makes them junk hoarders. "But I must own Barbie for NES or my collection isn't complete", oh fuck you.

Emulation is also superior to real hardware, but watch these rethuglican assholes defend an RF connection or lack of save states so they can convince themselves that their money isn't being wasted. Meanwhile, people with brains get a better experience for free AND without having to pack their homes in garbage. Ever seen AVGN, Pat or AlphaOmegaSin show off their shit? Looks cheap, on crap shelves packed in so tight it's a clusterfuck. They spend all their cash on this shit but not a penny on displaying it in a pleasing manner. Fucking retards deserve to be laughed at for blowing money on shit that they don't even play. Gamers who hate emulation tend to be mentally ill.

I'll keep my money, I don't need the respect of AOS or AVGN. Twats.

Gamergate is a critique of bad journalism practices and morals within the Gaming Industry. The people who howl at it being a crusade against women are the very people who are guilty. It is actually a good thing as sites like verge, polygon, and Gawker Media (and it's subsidiaries) use emotional persuasion to quash all discussion.

The main reason why it was a shit storm here was because moot was attending Gawker Media's XOXO Con to find venture capital bidders and prep the site for sale.

That is the adult/business side of gamergate. The retard side are the Gawker "journalists" that visit and post here during working hours (sniffing for scoops), professional victims like Anita/Brianna (ghoul gamer) Wu, and sperg teenagers.
>>
>>6058032
I think it's:
>Ads say that it is the most popular toy and have news companies make paid-ads to sell that idea to the public
>Limiting quantities released so people are sure to seek it out
>Social media makes for easy and free advertising

It's about the same with Amiibos.
>>
>>6061898
No it has counter. You can break the egg imidiately - the "hatching" is stoped when Hatchimals is removed from base
>>
>>6065255
So what about all the toys-of-the-year which occurred before social media? Your Furbies, or your Tickle-Me-Elmos, or your Cabbage Patch Kids?
>>
>>6066123
Like the guy said, there's other media outlets that exist. The Internet isn't the only source of information.
>>
>>6065255
>>6066123
Also I think it's worth pointing out that shortages aren't generally created on purpose. When something gains a lot of unexpected popularity factories/distributors etc don't have the resources to meet the new incredibly high demand. They want to make as much money as possible and letting the aftermarket prices skyrocket due to high demand isn't making them anything.
>>
How the fuck do these things work? Are the eggs like made of hella thin plastic? Can't you force the egg open if that's the case?

How does the fucking bird sense you? Does it like have heat sensors or something? I'm genuinely confused

Friends daughter got one of these for her birthday and I was there to help set up shit and clean up afterwards.

Kids all went fucking mental when she opened up a box with a hatchimal in it. Even the parents where begging my buddy and practically selling themselves to him trying to find out where he got one for her. It was weird as fuck.

>he tells them he just ordered one online a few months ago for like $50
>shrugs at the desperate mother whos basically reaching for his dick begging him where to find some hatchimals like a crackwhore

The other weird thing was that all the fucking kids, every one of them, knew exactly what hatchimals were and exactly how they worked, because they all watched unboxing videos on youtube. All they do all day is watch youtube videos about toys. Its fucked.

2.the "bird" can't sense you.
>>
>>6069162
There's a tab on the bottom that you rip out to activate the hatching. They make it sound like it senses something, but it's just repackaged Furby tech.
>>
>>6077851

The intructions dont mention the tab in the bottom thing makes it hatch anywhere.

The tabs look like they are holding it in the flimsy see through plastic packaging indie the box it comes in. So my niece took the tabs out to take it out of the box, and it started hatching like 10minutes later.

I looked over the instructions and couldnt find anything relating to actually getting it to hatch.

But it tells you to look it up on youtube as well, so maybe they mention it there.

I also noticed that they say multiple times over all the intruction pages DO NOT RETURN TO STORE, EGG CAN ONLY HATCH ONCE. Its almost like they know their toy is shit after its one gimmick is used up, and people will want to return it.
