>no Playmobil thread
Come on, I can't be the only one around here who grew up with these. Also, post your favorite sets.
the last one died after a couple of days
One day i'm gonna make that Crab Nicholson
I had a lot of knights, and Vikings when I was a kid.
Hnnnng, dat nostalghia
I had a lot of sets when I was younger. My favote Christmas memory, I think it was 1995, was when I got a Playmobil castle for Christmas, and my younger sister got the Playmobile Victorian mansion set (pic related)
>>6002439
And the Castle... what a fantastic set.
>>6002443
goddamnit
>>6002439
Holy shit you are me
Aren't these in scale with 1:18 stuff, or close to it?
Construction workers with obligatory case of Löwenbräu.
As an Eurofag I can't help but wonder, is the lack of Playmobil threads around /toy/ due to them being scarce around the US or else? That sounds like the only possible explanation for these adorable things being virtually ignored around here.
Anyone still remembers their first set? Mine was pic related, bought it when I was 8 or so. Made me love these things for the rest of my childhood.
>>6002579
That is my same thought.
>>6001646
My teacher had this plane in her classroom in year 3. Got it for christmas after telling mummy about it. Loved it.
>>6001646
I bought a bunch of this stuff for my little guy. He's only 15 months old though, so yeah, not going to get to play with them w/him until he's a bit older. Got him a big castle and pirate ship...and I keep adding to the pile as I come across stuff on clearance that fits those themes.
>>6002579
I personally think it's because Playmobil is more aimed at younger audiences?
Unlike Lego, which can be used and enjoyed pretty much by both children and adults due the customization/building aspect.
>>6002827
Adding: am Eurofag myself, but I still think they are mostly ignored here because they aren't that popular with adult collectors.
>>6002579
because things ain't what they used to be, playmobil used to have several factories in 2-3 continents, now they only have 1 in Europe.
When I was kid there were toy aisles full of Playmobil now there are none, only one store have a few of them
>>6001646
I always saw them as inferior to Lego and never bothered
>>6002882
It's hard to find Playmobil in stores here.
TRU has some sets but other than that they're almost nonexistant.
It also seems it's place is being taken over by MB and Lego bootlegs.
>>6003035
>>6002882
Portugalfag here, there are still plenty of Playmobils for sale around here, in some cases their sections occupy almost as much space as Legos.
>>6002459
>>6002575
>>6002828
Speaking on scale, is the set in pic related any good? This thread made me go full nostalgic for Playmobil and I've developed an interest for Porsches lately, so yeah... I'm suddenly feeling the will to own of these (´・ω・`)
One of my favorites as a child.
>>6002579
They used to be common when I was a kid, I had that airport and it was the coolest thing and the biggest set I had.
Pic related was my first set.
>>6003849
Nice, I had that set and the cavalry fort and a few others, almost all wild west themed. When I was little we lived in an apartment and one of our neighbors was a little old lady who became friends with my parents, she bought me those sets, I guess I was like a grandson to her. A few cross-ocean moves later and all I have left today are a few random bits, most notably the cannon at the top back of pic related. It's been through more battles than I can remember, had a lego cannonball stuck in it for years.
>>6002579
They've been around in the US since the early 80s and a common sight in educational toy stores or sections but they remain kind of a niche thing. I don't think I've ever seen them advertised on TV.
>>6002829
That may change.
>>6006843
Perhaps, I saw those pics in /lg/, honestly I only want pic related.
I'm deep into Lego, but I always liked some sets Playmobile made, and Lego never made something in their system lines.
I think some city life like the zoo, farm and wildlife could sell well, if they do it good.
They have also a lot of extra sets with 3 animals or 3 soldiers of different factions with let you do easy army building.
>>6012097
Lego has a license for building bricks.
Playmobil can have a different one.
>>6012713
RGB would require extra licensing costs. And all Playmobile figures have bowl cuts.
>>6002439
>Victorian mansion
As a kid, I always oogled at that set in the catalogs I saw. I played pretend with the pictures since I could never get the real thing.
New castle sets are kinda neat.
>>6015212
Is this the one with dragon cave?
Playmobil can also make great props for figures. Just depends on the specific item thanks to the weird scaling they need with small hand held items
>>6015313
yes, It has that cave under the castle
>>6015212
I wonder if this can be used with 1/18 figures?
>>6021845
Playmobil minis are way smaller than 1/18.
>>6008839
>Janine in the dress she wore to try and seduce Rick Moranis
>>6002439
My sister got this set for Christmas and it's still in parents living room to this day. My mom still thinks it looks nice
Surely I'm not the only one who, while growing up, viewed these as the "not nearly as fun version of Lego."
Toys R Us is currently putting a lot of Super 4 stuff on heavy clearance, just picked up this for about 5 bucks and I love it, not too keen on the other leftovers. Tuesday Morning had a neat little carnival shoot-the-can set. For those asking about 1/18, just make sure not to go for anything enclosed and it shouldn't look horrible, and the accessories in general are usually great.
Anyone gotten that pyramid set? I'm curious about the canopic jars, I doubt they're anything more than the jar body and topper, but is there room inside for storage? I'm currently debating grabbing it for Pose Skeleton nonsense, as they're about the right size.
>>6002579
I would say price. As a kid in the 80s they were only available at upscale toy stores. Stores with Brio trains, Playmobil and maybe some erector sets. Even today the last store I saw with full big sets was FAO shawtz in timesquare. Sure you might get a Target with some characters but not full sets.
Also they are expensive.
I have the indians, a western store, soilders. I think some of mine were made by marxs. I'll try to post pics.
I like them because Romans and other historical sets.
>>6002445
I used to have the Bell Tower, part of the Medieval set. Was amazing, the bigger toy that I had at child.
But I ever lust over the pirate ship. Someday I'll catch it, I hope.
>>6029692
Why? Lego is a construction toy and these aren't. They're playsets with figures and accessories that have standardized pegs and stuff. Doesn't have much to do with each other.
Anyways, I think not many talk about Playmobil here because the old sets were just much better. Since the death of the creator, Hans Beck, the quality of new sets has dropped. Americans don't have much nostalgia for the old sets, and there's not much to say about new sets so... no reason to have a Playmobil thread.
I have a "Heinrich der Löwe" Figurine from Playmobil.
But unfortunately I don't collect Playmobil.....
Just picked up this thing for 90 bucks. Even without playing the memory game, it's a fantastic playset:
>Bamboo maze
>'lava' pit(though the lava in this case is a ton of pebbles)
>hideaway cave behind rocks
>locking cave that can be opened by the game or by using a pin or a sword to poke into the rock above the door
>firing cannon
>Bitchin' demon face sword
>>6038432
I also picked up this sad bastard. In that it's a pilotable mechcube with a pirate pilot who has a telescoping gold eye. Sadly, the pirate's hat doesn't stay on.
>>6038440
post pictures next to other toylines for scale.
>>6038445
I will in a bit, but scale aside, I can fit a Zombie Viper(GI Joe) inside it without any issue.
>>6038445
>>6038493
That's very cool.
Nice clean looking work mech and doesn't an arm and a leg like the Acid Rain one.
>>6038683
Yeah,, only 8 bucks on clearance. Shame that the arms are so simple though.
>>6029692
Playmobil was all about mix-and-matching as you could throw other toys on the large vehicles with ease. Them being stiff as heck also made them a lot easier to play with than the Lego Technic figures.
This being 4chan, can someone post the "controversial" Lindsey Lohan-"inspired" pregfig, or the "controversial" pirate set with a (gasp) freed slave fig?
>>6002439
damn my brothers friend had that victorian set. We had two big tubs of playmobil. Cowboys, knights, pirates, city stuff, I remember when I finally got this for christmas. Sitting watching Octopussy on TV on christmas day. Good times
