These days that shit breaks even when just standing around.
>>
>>5995961
Honestly, i have no idea how you are able to break these pieces. The only ones i have problems with are skeleton arms who break constantly, because they're badly designed and those bionicle pieces the one anon showed (but only some colours and they seem to have resolved the issue).
I've never had other pieces getting damaged like this and i really don't understand how you manage it
>>
>>5995964
Not my picture but I still have quite a lot of recent 1-stud wide bricks that developed cracks after a while from just being put together.
I don't even really know whether it's an issue with the plastic, with the molds or the molding process itself but since most cracks are along those molding swirls or whatever you call them I'd say it's the latter.

And before some retard claims "hurr durr hamhands":

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-much-abuse-can-a-single-lego-brick-take-343398/?no-ist

>In the experiment, the team used a standard 2×2 Lego brick and placed it onto a hydraulic ram. The ram pushes the brick upwards towards a metal plate with a load cell, which measures the force applied to the brick. The team set the machine to do its work automatically, so they could observe from a safe distance outside the room. After the ram was activated, the 2×2 brick managed to withstand an astonishing amount of force, finally giving in at 4,240 newtons, the equivalent of 950 pounds.

So unless you're some Dragonball Z character who can put the force of almost half a ton into his fingers then you shouldn't be able to break those bricks like that.
>>
>>5995964

1x1 and 2x1 bricks break like crazy. i have some pieces from like ~1988, they are very worn and dont clutch as much but no cracks of them

So is Lego done with the Simpsons license? I was looking at pics of some of the figures and I really felt like buying a new Simpsons styled set or CMF series.

Also same with Ghostbusters, I guess the last we'll get of that is probably from Fembusters Dimensions and Ecto.
>>
>>5995999
Bought some Simpsons CMF, and the figures are quite cool, but i don't really know what to do with them.
>>
>>5995999
Well, if they did make one, what would you want the next Simpsons set to be anyways?
The only things that spring to mind are THoH sets, something like the Bad Dream House or just Bart's treehouse with spooky versions of the minifigures.
Most other things I can think of would either be too large (the School, Power Plant or Burns Manor) or something they wouldn't do for some reason or another (Moe's Tavern)
Though now that I say it, places like the Stonecutters lodge would be pretty cool.

Though deep down, I just want a big, expensive $500+ Planet Express Building set with the ship, all the crew members and tons of easter eggs snuck in.

That's the thing that gets me the most. I haven't even touched the pieces that are broken. You just pick it up to find that they were cracked while sitting there on display. It's not like my room has extreme temperatures either. It's not sitting under sunlight.

The entire back tail portion of this is broken pretty much. 3 of the 4 clips holding the bones and the fins.

Chinese factories with lower standards and looking for "more green" inferior plastic was a mistake.
>>
>>5996331
>>5996080

The Chinese parts are (mainly) multicolored pieces like the Star Wars CCBS heads or more complex ones like PotC Blackbeard's beard.
And basically, if it comes in a separate plastic bag it's from China.

I wouldn't call it a mistake, rather it just haven't given the wanted result yet. Quite frankly it would be a necessary move sooner or later, so better take it now rather than later. Hopefully they find a good alternative to "conventional" lego, but time will tell.
>>
I guess the most ironic thing is that CCBS parts are now some of the most sturdy pieces out there but got mostly phased out while Lego's basic bread and butter bricks went down the shitter.

I understand that, for a business like Lego, every cent saved counts, but would these changes save them actually a significant amount of money? Plastic is a very cheap material.

So what's a good way to make an Axl in LDD? It doesn't seem to have his torso piece in there.
>>
>>5996437
Yes. For their basic pieces, they produce so many that this has likely saved them hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Remember these pieces are lighter, so they save on shipping costs as well. They have to retool the molds once in a while anyway, so forget about that cost.

On a philosophical level, They might be cashing in on their reputation as a toy that "lasts forever". The old bricks were likely over engineered, from a time when new pieces couldn't be designed to withstand juuuuuust enough force. Now pieces are designed not to last decades, but maybe 10-15 years, long enough to withstand several kids childhoods vin a row. This is what any sane toy company would do.

All the slight cracks and broken pieces in this thread can be written off by parents if it happens to toys that are played with. It's only apparent when a displayed model breaks on its own

Somebody should be able to check the weight of older and newer parts at the very least. The "cheapness" of a part is hard to prove, but somebody might be able to stress test parts from different years and give a reasonable idea. Who has a really accurate scale?

The designs of MOCers are superior to those of LEGO, hence why I consider MOCs should be higher, even if both are not mutually exclusive, same as everything else in that autistic list.
>even though you gave me two
I was correcting a mistake, it was the same fucking response, you moronic mouthbreather.

Overall your list is stupid as fuck, not all MOCs are good, some MOCs are outstanding. Same with LEGO designs. Custom parts shouldn't even be there, and how can someone who doesn't even open the box be considered a builder or even a fan or be over someone who at least builds and displays LEGO?

>the designs of MOCers are superior to those of Lego

True (mostly), though bear in mind that in order to become a set builder, you have to be damn good at MOCcing, and memory serving, are put through a series of tests by TLG that prove that you are. Granted you pass and do go on to become a set designer, whatever you make for a theme has to intentially be dumbed down in order to meet piece count, new element inclusion, and other standards.

I will agree though that as a dedicated moccer, how the fuck am I on the same level of 'AFOL' as a damn set collector who doesn't even open the boxes?

but fine dude, your list is magnificent, it's the greatest ranking system everyone ever has come up with, and you should be praised for it
Is that what you wanted to hear? Are ou happy now? One person who does not approve of your idea is enough to set you off? If so, then get off the internet, kid, you're no $100 dollar bill to be liked by eveyone

Gotcha. Lego's designs are definitely not top tier, though with the exception of I'd say perhaps the modulars or the UCS builds, aren't exactly intended to be.

Personally, I don't really care much about anything Lego produces, as I hardly ever buy sets (Bricklink yo). And when I do buy a set, the look of it never bothers me as I just use the parts from it. I see little sense in complaining about how a set looks, as I know that if I really cared about that, I'm a decent enough builder that I could just build my own rendition, which if not better than Lego's, is at least something I can be happy with.

I was the same way. I tried to use my fingernails or a knife to separate them. However, some pieces are hard to separate even with the separator, so sometimes I have to use two at once. I got ahold of an old style brick separator this year. It is much larger than the orange ones, and more crude, but without the technic peg/axle remover.
>>
>>5997219
Brick separators are useful as fuck for other things. My GFs 2011 Imac (I know, she has since switched to windows, thank god) needs a new hard drive. I used four of the orange brick separators to get the glass screen of the computer without damaging it.

The price hike even with inflation accounted for is pretty unreasonable, I agree.

But the original figs didn't look that good nowadays and some of them (Chewie and Vader) used molds that Lego has since replaced with new ones.

Minifigs being updated would be fine, IF they didn't saturate their prodcution line with so many Star Wars sets.
>>
>>5998065
Yeah, Lego should just stop producing sets for one of their most popular themes.
>>
why are afols so easily triggered?

example one: when southpark made fun of lego last week, i saw all these posts about how that was not cool of attacking lego

Example 2: when Just2good uploaded his larest top 10, themes lego stole, most comments are about how he's tarnishing lego reputation by saying they stole themes... i mean people take shit too seriusly
>>
>>5998068
That's not what I meant, what I'm getting at that they should not rely on a single theme so heavily, especially not a licensed one when their IP could roll them cash in too if they put effort into it.

>Make a scene showing your sigfig enjoying Thanksgiving with family (or at least trying to).

>Build a themed display stand for your minifigs!
>Make an advent calendar for whenever Christmas rolls around.

Actually, I reverse engineered her months and months ago, along with his Squid Sisters. I'd like to do Lingonkart's XJ family soon.

I can post the .LXF if you'd like, but I'd want to know that he's okay with it first. It also has several connections and part colors (e.g. ankles, neck) that are different from the actual model. Internal connections may also be different from the actual Shantae's.

Do excuse the smaller Shantae, that one I was inspired to make.

It's stupid of me, but I'd still want his permission to actually post full-on .LXFs of bootlegs of his stuff. With the Squid Sisters at least the bodies are rather simple, once you have the heads down.

Call Lego immediately and let them know. You'll get all your broken bricks replaced for free. If you kept the box, they'll ask for the batch number stamped on one of the flaps so they can "investigate" which factory fucked it up. I can't guarantee if they follow through but I doubt they only ask to placate any concerns.

I've had a total of nothing breaking on me from any recent sets though but, I've noticed a sharp decline in print accuracy to the point where I can apply decals better than the machines can apply their prints. I've already had to order replacement parts for the sole reason of sloppy prints, Astromech Droids being one they still have a hard time with.

Hello /lg/ newfag here, last time played lego 10 years ago.

I got quite a shitload of bricks, previous owner was autistic enough to put bricks of one type from different sets in ziplock bags.

I have trouble identifying sets.

Can someone identify the set by the remotes/components in my previous pic?

Here's the two boxes I bought
>>
>>5999790
Bricklink.com will be an invaluable aid for you. A few years ago I was gifted a garbage bag full of unsorted Mindstorms pieces (no electronics, just the Technic stuff and a few System pieces). Very nice haul. You can probably make a lot of cash selling the electric components.

>complaining about presorted bricks

But seriously, if you really wanna get into lego keep them separated. Sooner or later you'll have the urge to build something yourself and the already sorted parts will save you a lot of time
>>
>>5999808
Mate I'm not complaining I'm just trying to figure out the what kind of fucking set it is so I can download instructions for it
>>
>>5999819
The PO might have bought any quantity of specific parts via BrickLink or shopathome rather than boxed sets. The 9001 PF controllers in there sort of go against that theory, but it's still possible. You definitely have a shit ton of Technic, so you may want to just look thru set pics first then either download the instructions or look at parts inventories for best matches.

Haul time.
Went and checked out this new overstock store in town. All of their toys were marked 50% off ticketed price. In the end, I payed $135 for all of this, and all of them are factory sealed. They had an assload of shit to choose from. I was surprised to only see a few sets that were already opened and taped shut with packing tape. They even had a couple of the UCS tie fighters for $100 each but they were already opened so I didn't bother.
So I want to ask, is this a common occurrence to find Lego sets 50% off MSRP? I just got back into Lego like a month ago, so I'm not familiar with the general market. Either way I'm pretty sure it was a good deal for this stuff.
>>
>>5999819
try posting on the bricklink boards, those autists know fucking everything.
>>
>>5999849
Not common at all. What's the name of the place?
>>
>>5999849
I can occasionally find Lego 50% off at Wal-Mart, Target and other big box stores like that. Wait until the new stuff comes out and the old stuff goes on clearance, usually at 50% off give or take (depends on store, obviously).

Harder to find the sets like the top one there, though, only place I've ever seen that is Toys'r'Us who marks everything up in the first place anyway.

What else should I get?

What? I just thought the journal might have a little more utility than a bunch of blocks. I'm still going to buy some Lego sets, I just wanted to start with the journal.
>>
>>5999899
If you want a journal, go to your local department store, find the stationary section, and buy a fucking journal for a five and change.

Not a twenty dollar journal with a silly Lego bookmark that won't do anything but leave peg-shaped imprints on the pages when you use it, and who puts a bookmark in their journal anyway??
>>
>>5999902
It's not a bookmark, it's a bookbind. It's so I can decorate the front of the Journal.
>>
>>5999893

They aren't wrong that a journal isn't a great Lego purchase. You might get anything you can find for cheap.

Even confirmed that its being sent AND that its a female model (last year they did male ones)!

>>5999466
Got one of these too, so the dancer will have a sister now! Also got one of their other candy skulls (pic related) so I can make another percussionist with maracas, like >>5999518

Now I need to order one more mariachi guy and the parts for him and an extra skirt and mariachi torso. Also maybe some of the other sombreros to break up the monotony a bit.

It's a fine journal, that's not the issue. It is a bad Lego set overall.

It is a plane but also a boat or another boat. Kinda cool. Also mixels are never a horrible choice.

If I want to write about my day and I lack a Legoâ„¢ branded Legoâ„¢ journal, I can find another suitable writing instrument and surface. A lined notebook, perhaps, or the large, bare back of a particularly overweight Asian man. I could even type it out, if I wanted to, which opens more possibilities- typewriter? Keyboard? Stenotype machine?

If I want to build something with Lego and I don't have any Lego, what the fuck am I supposed to do? Use Mega Blocks?

Yeah, just wash it. You can usually get unsorted hauls pretty cheap. Bricklink is usually your best place to get spare pieces when you want something specific, but Lego has a couple of online services for ordering bulk quantities of specific pieces.

What are the issues here? I and the other mods watch over things to make sure the peace is kept and so on etc and I've been actively trying to improve the server for everyone. Not once have I ever had to take control of anything since it's been so smooth so far.

>Welcome /lg/ to my home, come and be amazed.
