For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

SD Group Build

Rules:
Pick up an SD anything, plane, Gundam/other MS, whatever, if it's generally an SD it counts (so I hope to see someone do a D-Style). Obviously, per all group builds, you'll want to paint it.

Submissions:
Email it to [email protected]
USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS

Due Date: November 1st

Good news! A kind anon has purchased some prizes for the group build. He has decided to do a random drawing rather than judge them like I did in the previous group build. Winners will be contacted via email.

For those curious, I intend to start the secret Santa signups on October 1st.

I don't care about the blank faces past using them as a vehicle for the decals. I find FAGs severely lacking in the faces department.

Finally finished my Architect.

I'd actually put together a backpack with six more arms cobbled together from several smashed Gundams, but I didn't really like the way it gelled and then when the hands I ordered came in they added just enough weight to where the pack couldn't support itself any more. Rather than buying a new stand I just went with the smaller booster setup.

I actually like it more this way.
>>
Someone was interested in my nub removal.

I use the nippers to cut the part from the runner leaving a few centemeters of space to prevent the plastic from stressing.

Then I used the super fine point xacto knife to slowly shave down the nub. Most of the time the nub isnt stressed at all and i can use the knife to get it all the way flush without there being much of a noticeable mark.

If the nub is stressed and showing more white than usual, then I shave the nub down with the knife until it's almost flush, then I use the fine sanding stick until its flush and finish with the polishing/finishing stick.
>>

>>
>>5913840
Good job. You now have enough TBPs to purchase your own bridge.
>>
>>5913836 #
Also prepare to destroy your thumbs using an xacto knife as your main tool. Shaving the nubs down this way on the small parts of RGs is fun
>>
I've now discovered that some of the more stylish blue parts of my Stylet aren't actually blue for the kit and I want them to be. I have no room for a compressor, so should I be hunting down appropriate rattle cans or delving into hand painting? Didn't think I'd be doing that much work on this one.

I lose precision cutting control when cutting away.

I cut away for larger nubs but for tight angles cutting towards myself is best. It's also not just a straight cut, it's more like whittling, but on a smaller scale.

How are the Koto EVAs? Specifically the Unit 01 Awakening? The RD of it is hard to find at a decent price and the Revoltech looks odd, which is not a big issue but its dated joint scheme is.

>>
Hey guys I have a master grade Rick Dias I bought a couple years back but the thing is most of the plastic pieces are out of their packaging. I'm not sure if some of the parts are missing since I bought it so long ago. Do you just throw it away since some of the parts may be missing or would someone buy it in its condition? I'm curious because I doubt I'll ever get to it and it's just taking up space
>>
>>5914165
Check the parts against the manual's runner images or Dalong's scans of it to see if you're missing anything.
>>
>>5913967
Not that anon, but cutting away has a higher chance for fuck up. I personally put a bandage on my thumb before cutting to prevent the need for it after. Just make sure that you're xacto is very sharp otherwise you'll do what I did and take off a fingertip, regardless of bandage

Am I going insane? I painted a kit for the first time recently, top coated it with vallejo gloss varnish. Today I decided to add some decals and make it matte, but after thinning the varnish with a bit of water and spraying it on I found myself looking at the color of the plastic underneath my paint. It looked like the paint and gloss coat had entirely disappeared in the areas I sprayed. I figured I'd ask you guys what the fuck had happened and cleaned off my airbrush, and after doing so I find that the paint has become visible again and looks like it used to.
Is this normal? It seems fucking scary to just spray your hard-earned paintjob away.

1 week to go.
only 1 "artist" confirmed
2 panelists confirmed
build contest will be pay to enter
cosplay contest will be pay to enter
there is a build area, but you need to bring your own tools or buy from them.
You can bring your own kits to sell but they'll take 10%
The band that WAS supposed to play, has been cancelled because the organiser decided that they wouldn't pay them anymore, and still had the gall to tell one of their members that they still had to give a panel talk on resin at their own cost, not even a free ticket.

they're still asking for volunteers this late in the game, despite having over a year to organise stuff.

Yeah, I already figured that, what I'm wondering is if you rotate the normal Graze's Wrist Piece to the outside and flip the Gunlances Ammo Drum to the inside, is it possible to fit both the full Gunlance in the hand and the Graze Shield on the Wrist of the same arm?

>>5915278
>Yesssss, thank you anon! Time to buy all the grazes! I'm messing around with my ryusei go graze and I'm really impressed.
The Graze Ritter is probably the best in this regard.
Not only do you get the Carta Issue Custom Ritter and it's sexy Sword, you also get all the pieces to build a regular Graze in Blue.

...Ironically, you need a Barbatos Kit to make the regular Mook Variant of the Graze Ritter, as it uses the smaller Ritter Shoulder Armor and comes with the smaller Head Crest.

>>5915332
>What kit should I do next?
Was that a 1/144 or 1/100 scale kit?
If you're looking for fun 1/144 kits with tons of innate customizability, I'd suggest the HGBF line.

You can also find the corresponding series on Youtube, Gundam Build Fighters.
It's set in a world where they have magical tech that allows them to animate Gunpla and battle with them in virtual environments, and the first season is pretty enjoyable even if you don't get the assload of Gundam franchise references.

Glad you got a first kit that you enjoyed, mine was a Full Armor Gundam Thunderbolt Version.
Not a terrible kit, but it was a lot more work than what I was originally wanting to get into, PLUS the completed kit isn't very playable and kinda fiddly.

luckily if it's Dash-con levels of autism, I'm only 30 mins away from home. So if it's complete garbage I'll just grab some photo's of the contest kits, and the train wreck and leave.

Dengeki's FAG improvement series for Baselard pt1 is out. Luckily the pictures explain a lot.

http://hobby.dengeki.com/reviews/254953/

Really neat modifications there, they had a similar one for Stiletto as well
>>

Expanding the boobs/butt/thighs on a FAG is something I'd really like to try one day, but they're too much of a pain to get for me to want to risk fucking one up.

>>5916708
In theory sanding something down to a pleasing rounded shape should be easier than cutting something perfectly square. I've never done it though so that's just conjecture.
>>
>>5916711
It'll be great as a base yeah. Someone has to model that shit though.

No I'm saying that someone has to take the time to model an enhanced chestpiece for a specific model kit for a small number of users and prep for 3D printing. Not very likely.

>>5916733
Its not easier when you have to account for sag, squishing your sphere into an oblong shape and the angle the tits are pointing in two dimensions and make it look symmetrical. Have a look at the FAG tit mods on twitter, many of them don't look good at all.

Also decal sheet apparently.

if you compare the 1/100 kits to their HG counterparts

virtue
+has cast off nadleeh mode that the HG doesn't have
+great surface sculpted detail
-requires a lot of painting (especially painting white onto dark sections)
-weak balance, legs want to do the splits
-bazooka is really heavy and can't be held easily

seravee (haven't built the 1/100, but have the HG and have seen reviews)
+comes with a seraphim, base HG kit doesn't
+regular kit comes with prismatic stickers
+designer's colors comes with interestingly designed decals
+designer's colors comes with 2 spots for LEDs
+can store beam sabers in the elbows, HG can't
+can plug hands into the shoulder and knee cannons, HG can't
+only have to paint the forehead jewel
+supposedly good balance. HG did, can't confirm on 1/100
+bazookas have many different posing options, no weight issues
-seraphim's proportions are strange in my opinion

if you want to compare the two kits to each other, go with what design you like better, or get them both. but if you want the better designed kit, that's probably the seravee

Not that anon, but I usually dont do eye decals. If its a common collor, like red or green, I'll use a ultra fine point permanent marker. Looks better and isnt as flimsy. As for shoulders and angled decals, cutting it down smaller to fit and then using a toothpick to force it into indentions

I used the clear eye decals to let the clear green show through. Then for the shoulders i did what the other anon said, but them into more manageable sizes then cut them down further once they were in place.

Some people do have metered connections but even then a few megs isn't huge, generally. The biggest reasons to resize are for making grainy images look less shitty, load times for slow connections and keeping things light for mobile connections and especially weak hardware.

Good reasons to resize? Maybe. That image really doesn't need resolution like that though, it's (no offense) kind of like doing a closeup on a hairy mole. Things are more flattering with less detail.

The main problem with cellphones is that you cannot control depth of field and plain of focus very well (which your picture demonstrates tbqh) and with touchscreen controls and fixed lens that isn't going to change anytime soon.

That's fine, but if you're looking to improve you should at least be able to post process or realize your shit looks like shit before posting it and retake it so you get a half decent result. This is not the case for people taking gigantic cell phone images, the main culprits here.

I doubt most people would even complain if you took a picture that was worthy of or at least didn't look like ass at a high resolution.

Then start looking into air filtering and clean your fucking room every day, because what your HD pictures will be mostly showing are the dust, flakes of dead skin, dandruff and pubes (on or under your paintjob).
>>
>>5918367
Grain and blur hide definition though; you take a bad picture and it's not even particularly helpful for feedback and it drags down all that work you put in if you have a good build and showcase it with a bad picture. You want everyone to win? Take a good picture, then you get to keep the megapickles. You can get decent results with a phone these days if you just take the time and a few attempts to get things as right as they're going to get.

anyone else have extreme box art autism?

the endless waltz OVA master grades have been a nightmare because of their boxes and the reason why i haven't picked up any of those kits.

>wing zero - vertically oriented, long box, different art style entirely
>deathscythe hell - horizontally oriented, square box
>altron - fucking p-bandai colors
>heavyarms - at least that will be the same

fug, i just want these kits to come in the same style of boxes, like the ver EW ones
>>

are you sure it wasn't just because those kits are shit?

Anyone know the dimensions of these missile
launchers from kotobukiya? Or if the MSG weapon sets will look in scale on 1/144 scale kits
>>
well it's sunday, where's the update on that g-con uk shitshow
>>
>>5918783
Measure the perceived length of peg hole and launcher, divide launcher length over peg hole length, multiply by 3mm. Repeat for any other dimension, then make a mock up with paper.

Basic analysis anon, I thought better of you.

how is the build on t hat one? would you recommend it?
>>
>>5918905
overall, yeah i'd recommend it, but there are a few caveats.

1. needs a lot of painting
2. legs want to do the splits
3. gun is incredibly heavy

if you're okay with those issues, pick one up for sure

Because even with shipping it's cheaper online. And if you live in the States then shipped from amazon has it for like $240 with free shipping and you'll most likely recieve it within a week.
>>

Buy it anon, before Amazon puts the shop out of business. Buy it, and tell the owners you love them and want them to stay in business forever. Then never build it.

Hey now, that's wasteful. He should donate it to the Goodwill when he's done not building it. You know, so a five year old can rip the pieces from the sprue using his bare hands. And lose several pieces while assembling it.

Question, since it seems you panel line and decal as you go instead of at the end.. do you gloss the kit as you go? for better panel lining. This picture also looks like it has a matte coat.

You're correct. I top coat with Mr. Super Clear Matte after panel lining and adding decals almost immediately to prevent lines and decals from getting borked.

Sure, but it's probably a good starting point if there's nothing better. The final product won't look identical to the show version of ryuko. I'm considering incorporating the giant thruster from a gaplant as an optional part too.
>>
>>5919310
It's definitely a very low point for Bandai.
>>
>>5919348

So I have a friend who absolutely hates RG's and thinks a vast majority are complete garbage and bad waists.
He has had a few bad experiences it seems and he's been a complete dick about shit to the point i'm not almost regretting my RG GP01 and scared to even build it. He makes it out like almost all RG's are just complete garbage.

Is he right or just being a dick and a retard?
Or is he right to an extent? Cause iv'e heard RG Sinanju is pretty bad.
>>
>>5919371
He's a dipshit who ham hands everything.
>>
>>5919371
RGs are notorious for falling apart if you look at them funny. They're definitely not toys to play with. That doesn't necessarily make them bad, just something to keep in mind.

I think the MkII is generally regarded as the most solid one?
>>
>>5919371
First few RG Kits are like Grenades but later on as they release more they become more stable, The SInanju has some problems but that's because they used the MK II frame that wasn't able to handle all that extra weight but overall the kits are not meant to be toys. You also get very solid ones Like the mentioned MK II, The Exia, 00, Astray and Wing Zero. Also your friend sounds like he's completely heavy handed with handling kits.
>>
>>5919371

RG is my favorite line. Just don't expect to handle them like HGs. They're more fragile but they dont 'fall apart with a look' like people say they do. They can be frustrating to pose as some stuff my fall off, but just get it in a good pose and leave it alone. They look great and they're fun to build and a great deal for the price.
>>
>>5919371

They aren't all garbage, but in my opinion they're definitely the most difficult kits Bandai produce. While you don't really have to build a whole inner frame, the combination of MG detail on a HG kit leads to an abundance of absolutely tiny parts that can be hard to work with in comparison to other Bandai kits.

Sticking all those parts on a tiny sonic welded inner frame can lead to some popping off, but this only tends to be a problem with the first few kits in the range so you should be ok. As for the Sinanju I've heard mixed opinions, hopefully Bandai will fix the issues people have had when they do another casting run.
>>
>>5919294
Interesting, i'll have to try that next kit.
>>
Which one should I go for?
(I'm fairly new to gunpla, only started buying kits a month or so ago but these two look pretty neat)
