Just got Classics Smokescreen in the mail today. I've never had any version of this mold, but I rather like it. Since taking these pictures I've also learned that his feet slide down which makes him even better. I also made it so his missles could tuck up under his arms to store nearly away in bit mode.

I'll probably try to pick up Prowl for some parts switching. Both he and Prowl might also be due for some repainting and decals.

>All of CW was shit mate,
While CW had it's fair share of shitty toys, the vast majority of them were pretty good. Considering most of the had to be quad changing deluxes, I'm not sure what you were expecting.

Which molds did you think were shit? All I can think of are the CW Prime/Motormaster molds and the CW Breakdown/Wheeljack molds. The rest range from decent to great; especially considering what they were doing.
>>
>>5911747
I haven't had issues with the windshield but it seems like every version of the police car tooling has an overly tight hood hinge

I've been putzing around with MP Shockwave some more, trying to figure out some kind of improvised storage on him for his mini-me gun, and I found that you can actually store the spare hands in the hollows of his leg.
Shown here with a transparent saluting hand and a transparent left fist (right fist fits as well). They don't actually peg in or anything I just have them taped in, but I think you could very easily glue in some sort of clip holders within his legs to hold them in place.

And if you were to shave off a little bit of the inner mechanism of the knee then I believe there would also be enough room to store a cannon hand instead.

Unfortunately this doesn't work in his gun mode because the same hollow areas become filled, but it's still very interesting and potentially a very useful mod idea to explore.
>>
>>5911700
My ass. It sucks in arm mode and a meh leg mode. The only thing keeping the bot mode from being perfect is the lack of feet, which if you just want a standalone figure, get Chromedome.

>>

>>
>>5912053

Well, we know more repaints/tools are coming for everything. People think it's going to be different from CW, but it probably really isn't. We've already got what, 3 Blurr molds running around?
>>
>>5912057
The reason CW Legends were mostly fine is because you only saw two per wave, and they ALWAYS had different skeletons compared to one another even if one was a repaint or retool of a previous figure.

5 and 6 are two waves, in a row, that have every reason to use the same damn skeleton unless some of them are going to use the blackjack mold (which is unlikely since it doesn't play well with the gimmick.)

What also has me rattled is that there are no cassette bots, meaning the one legends repaint they have every reason to make, Blue Soundwave Tape Guy, wouldn't be showing up.
>>
>>5912067
Maybe Soundwave Blue is part of a multipack with other guys.
>>
>>5912061
>We've already got what, 3 Blurr molds running around?
At least they make an effort to be different. People are just really down on CW because every deluxe had to work under the handicap of also being a limb. Meanwhile, the three uses of the Blurr mold are so extremely different, you'd be hard pressed to tell they were even remolds, at a glance.

I guess "mixer tip" and "left accesible mixer screw" were dead giveaways.

He has floppy hip rotation and was long overdue for a floor polish crotch massage, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get him apart until now.

For as stupid and bad of a figure he is, he sure is the most complicated to assemble CW/UW construction by far.

I bought mine in the store in the US and it had tape around the bubble. All of the legends class figures on the pegs had them as well. I think they used a cheap glue that melted in the heat of Summer.

The fact were getting Season 3 Sunbow characters, Broadside and all Decepticon Triplechangers mean we could get Springer and Sandstorm, which will be retools of each other

tbph I greatly prefer MP09 over MP28 as a figure to pose.

MP28 is inarguably an actually functional toy but MP09 just plain looks better purely in terms of posing him.

If I ever find a cheap, good condition MP-09 with knees that haven't exploded yet I'd totally get him to have a Rodimus Prime in my display.

As the name implies, I'm sort of an aficionado when it comes to Skywarp. Now this has a reason, I'm not just going to be all "HURR DURR SKYWARP BEST U R FGTS" In truth, I just am curious about the generals view on character collecting.

Is it odd to pick a favorite 'bot and stick with him or her, amass a collection throughout the years or maybe even days, weeks? Just wondering if it's something looked down on, since I ended up in a discussion with someone from the local toy store earlier on how she believes that if you have one toy, you should pass on other variants unless it is absolutely necessary. So, thoughts on the contents of my post perpetuated with tired prose?

A lot of the intensely shellformery figure are awful. RotF Mixmaster, as mentioned, as well as Cybershark/SkyBite. From Generations, Kup can been a bit of a struggle, but generally those figures have decent transformations, so it's really relative. Likewise, from Animated, that voyager prime with the stupid spinning torso, I think it was.

Unlike a lot of people, I don't have a problem with complicated figures like WfC or RotF Optimus, both because I'm a fuckin' boss at transforming figures, and because everything has a nice final spot at either end of the transformation, each resulting in a pair of fantastic modes.

I have a three-pronged evaluation system when it comes to buying a bot.
>Do I like the bot mode?
>Do I like the alt. mode?
>Do I like the character?
Unless I can answer "yes" to at least two of the questions, I typically won't buy the figure. It keeps my collection from being crazy bloated, to the point where I just have a checklist of character that I feel I "need" to own. Never really understood the mentality of buying a toy just to say that you own it. Of course, my criteria means that occasionally I won't buy a toy of even my favorite characters if it looks like a sack of dump.

>Just wondering if it's something looked down on
Not at all. That level of dedication is actually kinda neat. I've seen some people who have a single shelf dedicated to every version of a character. It actually looks pretty cool because of all the similar-yet-different designs, and cohesive color schemes, since most Transformer collections end up looking like a rainbow mess of plastic.

Not really. If you dig a character and can afford and will enjoy different versions of them then its worth it.

Personally it doesn't appeal to me. I gave it up playing pokemon early with specific characters after realizing I was buying duds for the sake of completion. Fuck that. Now I just buy what I like. Since I don't have a shelf-ster-fuck it doesn't matter if anything goes together since I rotate things out on my limited desk space. At most I buy different versions of the same character because they are vastly different from one another. For example I picked up RID2015 Quillfire because he's a cool bastard even he doesn't go with anything else I have. I also bought 3 different 3p versions of Sludge without their other dinonot members because they all ticked my boxes.

>>
Why has there been such an obsession on making everything way too fucking tight?

I mean, some things need to be, like Sky Reign's hip joints. And obviously figures should be able to hold a pose and hold up their own weapons. But most of the time they go way beyond that. If a figure doesn't end up with any stress marks at all after transforming it once, I basically consider it a gem.
>>
>>5912703
Iiii don't think i've ever seen someone who goes so fucking hardcore on tightening that they basically just give their figures locked-in syndrome. It's only joints that would bear weight or need to stay in place for transformation.
>>
>>5912711
The peg that holds the front of Hook's vehicle mode together is extremely tight. So much so that unless you're extremely careful getting it out (which is damn near impossible since it's really wedged in there) it will snap off in the socket. The joint doesn't suffer much without it since there are enough other tabs to keep Devastator intact (mostly on the chest piece), but he's somewhat harder to assemble in the first place when Hook's front keeps swinging apart.

>>5912703

Personally, I feel a figures basic limbs shouldn't noticeably budge from a shake test. If shit goes flying or limbs start going wild, it's not tight enough.

Too tight is also a problem. Things need to hit a good median, basically.
>>
>>5912733
I honestly don't mind if the limbs go wild as you swing the figure back and forth, as long as they can still stand in the pose I give them... which is something Skullcruncher can't really do, so he would be an example of one that is TOO loose. I'm totally fine with Wheelie's floppy arms, though, and he can still hold up guns from bigger figures.

I know a $10 plastic toy isn't going to be perfectly engineered to hit all the sweet spots. But if I had to choose between slightly loose and slightly tight, I'd take loose any day.

You're supposed to wait till they give you a shipping label. Unless you're a business the rate for sending shit is absurd. Good example is if you're selling something on Ebay for the same item your shipping through an affiliate program so you only pay like $20 and it comes with the basic tracking and shit, but if you send it on your own back then you will easily pay $70~100 for the same service. HLJ is a big company and that they should be guaranteeing the return labels. The question now is if you contacted them and they told you to send it back yourself then they would be at fault. But if you sent it without them confirming they can probably write you off and you would only get your toy refunded for the original amount you paid and not for the one for the shipping you paid with your own money.

TLDR; Unless they said to return it yourself, you probably fucked yourself by paying it out of your pocket. Also it's a hassle to return it so normally they just tell you to destroy the item and send them a picture that you did and they will send you a new one free of charge.

We did this in the last thread and we're doing it again: post underrated figures.

Pic related is easily one of the best deluxes from the first movie: imposing posture, great articulation and poseability, and a paintjob on the level of Star Wars action figures. I guess most people ignored it because it doesn't really look like Optimus Prime and transforms into a weird metallic comet instead of something that's recognizable, but honestly, those are the reasons that sold me on it. Were it just a regular deluxe-sized Prime that was red and blue and transformed into a truck, it would have been completely overlooked by the Voyager and Deluxe versions, but the alien-ish appearance really makes it stand out as something genuinely charming and unique amongst the 2007 film toys.

Hasbro seems to want to do complete sets of various subteams, if only through odd formats. like all the 2nd year Deluxe Headmasters being released as Titanmasters

Hi, I'm the OP that posted >>5911392 and I was in the same position.

The takara one has better legs, the legs are glittery as fuck but apart from a slight blemish on the face in pic related (the other side has a slight miss in paint but you'd only notice if you stare right at it) its quite solid, the takara is much the same just different paint.

If a bigger overall aesthetic is important to you, get the takara one, I ONLY got the hasbro one because we're having a sale here (from $89.99aud to 59.99aud) and the fact the design is clearly intended for hasbro's toy aesthetic (the helmet homages the g1 toy/marvel comics) helped cement that in, its still the same toy.

One thing else I noticed with the takara head, if you look at it it seems the whole lower face is white, the black on mine's head would be white too, and if you love the legs but hate the head its easy enough to drown it in silver paint.

As for soundwave's simerlar argument there, infact a flaw emgo mentioned (yea yea he's shit meh) is the gold paint on the chest panel rubs off on the hasbro version, the takara version adds MORE paint around the sides...I honestly think the takara one is the better figure but if cost is a factor the hasbro one wins

They were the first toys designed to fit floro dery's original designs.
They fired him by the time headmasters needed to be designed.
Cause he didn't care about things being able to be transformed in real life.
This is why arcee couldn't get a toy made, and why blurr and kups toys are so simplistic compared to any prior figure in that scale.
Also this is why the cyclonus toy was hideous. Dery left them no notes on how the transformation worked.
Also why hotrod has three different transformation animations.
>>
>>5913231

>>
>>5913236
All of the non toy transformers in seasons one and two were made by dery. This is why alpha trion never got an alt mode, why the females had no alt mode kibble, and why devcon or whatever his name was had no sensible transformations (or any previous prime)
The 86 movie was the first time dery had to design things that would be made jnto toys, and he was bad at it.
After the movie, any character that got a toy was designed by his assistants. This includes metroplex and trypticon. So after he was fired, the team knew how to design stuff that would work, cause they'd been cleaning up dery's mess for years.
>>
>>5913253

>>5913265
Oh, i see
Nah, this was from interviews with floro dery
He's very conceited and literally said his designs were so futurisitic, they're what the future would call futurisitic.
I love his art and designs, they're awesome independently, he was just awful at toy designs, which is why they replaced him.
We don't think of it now, but back in early 80s cartoons often depicted toys, not the other way around, which is why dery had such a hard time.

Indeed, it really is a brilliant figure. When it comes to the "deluxe-sized" ones, it might very easily be the best one around, and that's not an easy thing to say considering how they're all so damn great.

>I even bought MP Exhaust, despite him being a literally who.

I got Exhaust first since he managed to show up in a local merch store, actually. He's not as interesting or recognizable as Wheeljack, but imho, it's still an interesting repaint with cool accessories and probably worth the extra bucks if you're that in love with the toy. Also considering getting the extra decals to complete the Marlboro livery, he just looks so cool.

Yes, but he's probably a geewunner and wanted Wheeljack to look as bland as he did in the original cartoon, because of lazy animators. Not because of what actually looks good.

Is it wrong that I'm probably willing to toss my Generations Kup in favor of the inevitable Titans Return one? The mold has a cool transformation but the bot mode has weird arms and a terrible head.

Can we take a minute to talk about how retarded the origin of Headmasters are in the US G1 Cartoon? Having their heads removed and modified to be piloted by aliens? Really? The small robot/mech suit idea Japan used is so much better.
>>
>>5914674
Very much agreed, I imagine fusing minds would cause issues like it does for combiners.
>>
>>5914663
At least wait until he's out. The old one's only real issue was the lack of waist, and the "I lost my glasses" face, hand were fine. He's still a pretty solid mold.

And while this could change, remember Kup's original alt mode was fucking awful, so let's hope the new toy can come up with a better looking pick up (or just straight up steals Crosshairs vehicle mode).

>>
>>5914674

>>
>>5914696
Really? care to say why?
>>
>>5914694
True, about Spike and Hi-Q, honestly it's just a disadvantage when it's the fusion concept.
>>
>>5914699
Not him, but it basically makes the Headmasters into guys that grant a super power to the bot the bond with. It does bring up the question of why they have the faces of the bot they bonded with.

Still, IDW didn't give much of a shit and went with option 3, ignore everything and come up with something cooler (vampire mini transformers that hijack bodies, eat their sparks, and can leave previous bodies on auto-pilot).
>>
>>5914699
The transtector concept is more derivative mecha garbage (aka what happens the moment you show any japanese person a robot), while the Nebulan concept doesn't make any fucking sense. The Titanmaster concept works very similarly to Binocle masks and actually has a functional use and reason for the body switching
>>
>>5914709
Eh, it's pretty gimmicky (guess it's fitting then). The transtector version works better in a narrative I think.
>>
>>5914708
There's also Scorponok, who was affected in 2 different ways (Regeneration established that the removed heads were still functioning, and received info from the bodies).

Scorponok's body, and Zarak ended with Scorponok losing his warriors heart, and overall becoming a more noble robot, while Scorponok's head's virtue's weren't affected, but he was willing to use science he got from Zarak to conquer Cybertron, instead of relying on brute strength.
>>
>>5914709
IDW basically looked at Jojo and thought "Hey, what if we made Sentinel Prime a near exact copy of Dio Brando?"
>>
>>5914721
I'll be great if they have him use those time stop powers.
>>
>>5914674
The marvel comics had it good.
The autobots were at risk of starting a war of misunderstanding with the locals, so they removed their heads (since as robots, they can survive like that) as a sign of their pacifism.
The decepticons attacked, and the only way for fort max to talk them into letting them fight is if the natives were able to shut them down. The headmaster process basically allowed the nebulon to shut down the transformer if they disagreed by ejecting.
>>
>>5914724
His toy bio has his Titanmaster slow down time, although the extent of these powers is unknown. Theoretically he could basically do a near exact equivalent of time stop using that
>>
>>5914715
Well I guess if we're talking about in order to get the kids to buy all the figures, then yeah, sure.
>>
>>5914731
It's not just that, it's that the concept just makes more fucking sense. Why would the heads all be cross compatible and switchable if the transtector concept were true? Why aren't the heads permanently bonded to the transtectors in that case?

It's an utterly retarded idea in more ways than one that needs to die. Masterforce and Victory got it right. The Headmasters was a shit tier cartoon
>>
>>5914699
>>5914709
Also not him, but it also plays into the concept of "load-bearers" already established with IDW's Ultra Magnus. Although the creation of Minimus Ambus was controversial, tying similar concepts together is something I appreciate.
>>
>>5914735
>Why would the heads all be cross compatible and switchable if the transtector concept were true

If a body gets injured, you can just use another body, or use some else's. But yeah, the random powers the Autobot Headmasters used were pretty stupid, and made no sense.
>>
>>5914735
A headmaster may need access to another transtector to get somewhere or for strategic purposes. Maybe that's just how the process ends up. Swapping's more of a by-product than anything.

>>5914757
The die-cast gives it weight though. Way better than the thin light plastic of the standard sword
>>
>>5914761
No, it just doesn't make any damn sense. What "strategic purposes" would there be for swapping? At least with the Titanmaster concept swapping makes sense, since you can swap on the go mid battle or during missions based on what you need. With transtectors there are no powers and no boosts from body to body.
>>
>>5914762
But it will rust, and in Puerto Rico, other products that heavily use die-cast started rusting a while after getting them, even with some precautions.
>>
>>5914769
>puerto rico
This explains everything
>>
>>5914765
>What "strategic purposes" would there be for swapping?

Somebody has not seen the Headmasters anime and is talking out of his ass I see. If you have watched the actual anime they actually did the head swapping to get out of sticky situations.
>>
>>5914765
Because the bodies themselves can serve as the "power ups" you seem so fixated on them needing. Say Hardhead needs to get to a combat zone fast, he can take chromedome's body, Brainstorm needs to perform a specific manuever that'd be too difficult in his jet mode, so he can use Highbrows for more pinpoint accuracy. Again, it works just fine as little guys piloting big bodies, no need for edgy vampire dwarfs.
>>
>>5914778
Good explanation, cucklord
>>5914780
That explanation comes off as very forced and lazy to me. Doesn't help how derivative and overused the mecha concept already is
>>
>>5914787
I wasn't explaining shit cause explaining it to you who obviously have not watched it is like explaining nuclear fission to a garbageman that didn't even finish elementary school. You're better off actually watching the series and understanding it yourself then ask questions later. Right now you're just being unreasonable and just arguing with people who are just trying to explain it to you to the best of their abilities.
>>
>>5914798
>DUUURRRRRR... YOUR STUPID
Have your (You), butthurt Transtectorfag
>>
>>5914801
comus, pls
just watch the damn anime
>>
>>5914802
Who the fuck is this Comus guy and why is he constantly mentioned?

If he hates Transtectors as much as I do he must be a much smarter person than you are

Also I have seen the anime. It's vague as fuck and boring as fuck
>>
>>5914787
And vampiric super hero midgets come off as very forced and as a sales gimmick. Again, the issue is you feeling they need to have a reason to have to change heads, rather than it being a by product of the process. Lets continue to see who has the superior opinion, cause that'll surely lead to something of worth.
>>
>>5914804
>IDW is shit
What a surprise? Where did I support IDW's rather retarded explanation? I even accused them of ripping off Dio Brando from Jojo!

The issue is that the Transtector concept is flawed as fuck and generic as fuck. As I said, why don't they permanently fuse themselves with their transtectors? What intristic use does having your head be seperate from your main body have?
>>
>>5914803
>If he hates Transtectors as much as I do he must be a much smarter person than you are

None other than LEL SOUPER POWERS apparently.

Wow, that's sad.
>>

At this point I'm starting to think this Comus guy is synonym for "anyone I don't like".

>>5914808
Makes more sense than LE MECHA XDDDDDDDDDD
What's stopping them from adding on or upgrading their actual bodies instead of le mecha maymay?

What? I just thought it was a shame somebody actively dedicates their time to shitposting.

>>5914814
Perhaps it'd be too much a strain on the spark if they did it that way, piloting a body as a head unit is less a issue.
>>
>>5914825
I don't.

Oh wow, what a bunch of losers.

Final question: Why the fuck does it have to be mechas? Why is it always fucking mechas? Why can't it be anything else? Even the Nebulan concept, while utterly retarded, is more original than fucking mechas.

nigga you're the most active user on the shitposting channel
>>
>>5914843
In the first place the "shitposting" channel is really just an offtopic channel. And no one even follows any of the channel names. Shitposting is done in #general, general talk is done in #nsfw, nsfw shit happens in #news etc. The names don't mean jack shit.

And why not you show your face, you cowardly piece of shit? If you have the guts to call me out you have the guts to tell me who you are

>>

>hehe no u!
Have your (You), you'll need it to buy more vibrators
>>
>>5914836
I'm glad you see the folly in continuing this. Why does it need to be anything else? Just because something is unique doesn't make it inherently good. The super power thing doesn't really fit in with transformers anyway, most abilities can be explained as technological (from the ones I've thought of, counter examples would be appreciated), but I fail to see how a head can stop time or how a head can give someone super speed. I'm all for a good creative new take on headmasters, but I don't think we've had one yet.
>>
>>5914845
Let's see your details and face first, if you are so brazen.
>>
>>5914852
The superpower bit works with the concept of Outliers in IDW. An outlier for example would be like Skywarp's teleportation. Teleporting isn't really a "technological" power in the normal sense of the word but yet he still has it. Same concept.
>>
>>5914860
I'd argue it could be a technology if you think of it as him moving so fast that it appears he teleports, sort of like warp speed in star trek.
>>
>>5914868
But he's clearly shown as outright dislocating his matter and phasing out of reality though. For example in exRID he was shown stuck to a wall because he got caught while phasing. Eventually he got out but he's also shown teleporting from underwater to a military base miles away. It's not really warp speed or you'd have seen him splash into the water

>>
>>5914875
I'm a bit disappointed they completely retconned his original IDW Teleportation powers. He originally opened portals (we never got a good distance for them, but it could at least transport someone a few kilometers, and could be used in succession), and could have the entire Decepticon force come with him. After his injury he sort of got parts of both power sets, but I thought the portals were cooler.
