Speaking of Combiner Wars, I've just been sucked down that rabbit hole. So far I only have Menasor with all the PE upgrades, UW Computron with the PE hands and feet, and CW Bruticus with the PE hands and feet.

I feel like I could use a few more Combiners on my shelves now. Any other recommended CW/UW figures?

Thanks for the advice. Defensor looks pretty cool (the Hasbro one does look better than the Takara one). Not sure about Superion because I think he looks a little too similar to Computron. Does anyone happen to have both UW/CW Computron and UW/CW Superion? If so, requesting a pic of the two of them standing together please.

Also, I'm pretty interested in MegaEmpress and Lio Kaiser to fill out my Decepticon Combiners. Any word on what Takara is doing with Lio Kaiser. The Hasbro one looks good, but I'd assume Lio Kaiser would be a figure that Takara would go all out for.

It would take some mildy extensive retooling to give him a stockier tiger body but I'd imagine they could use the exact same transformation process.

For his robot mode, even just retooling the chestpiece and removeable faces/tiger heads would suffice but the more I think about it, Tigatron is someone that really should be displayed in their alt mode considering the character, and I'd rather not a skinny tiger for that.

I decided I didn't really care if Galvatron had an accurate crown so I just painted his face. I'd considered shaving down the flip up mask and gluing it on, but then his TM couldn't fit in the cockpit. Looks good enough for me. And the colors match a bit more in hand than in this picture.

Maybe, but they could get around it by just making the limbs bigger. I say maybe mostly because resizing molds is still somewhat rare.

Looking at the CGI model, the robot torso and crotchplate are actually similar in size between cheetor and Tigatron. I think Cheetor's fake beast head is an engineering work around to allow the real head behind it to be remolded as a larger, tiger head. The limbs on Tigatron are where most of his mass come in, along with his head.

That's "optimus maximus". The limb bots he's using on the torso (battle core prime) are mirage, trailbreaker, wheeljack, and prowl. They're all repaints/retools squeezed out of the Stunticons of the line. We also got a smokescreen, hound (from swindle), ironhide (from "offroad", wildrider's 4x4 replacement), and sunstreaker (from breakdown).

Sky Lynx was also done as a combiner torso, and the line also gave us a superion, menasor, devastator, defensor, bruticus, and computron. They all have the "scramble city" feature with the limb members except for devastator.

I appreciate Victorion as a high concept thing, even though it may have not worked out. To me, Victorion seems like something that could've fit in late G1. Male molds redone as women, bright, gaudy colors. I've come to appreciate those late G1/G2 decoes a lot more thanks to Titans Return. Skullcruncher's colors are weird and not blantantly cool; but I find it more interesting than a more basic colorscheme. I feel the same about Victorion

So while Megatronia is outwardly cooler as far as colors go, its not really that impressive to me. Slapping black with some color highlights on ANY mold works out. It's an easy, go-to redeco. When I tried "customizing" Transformers as a kid, I covered them in black sharpie. It just doesn't wow me anymore.

I need some advice

my Galvatron's side-hip joints are unusably loose. If he's not sanding up straight he can't hold a pose.

I'm seeing these joints are held in place by a pin, what's the best way to go about making those hip joints a bit tighter?

Yeah don't even think about trying to do anything that would involve driving out that pin because you're not gonna do that without breaking the plastic.
The most you could do is trying to inject either tiny amounts of crazy glue or floor polish in between the rubbing plastics of the joint and try to work it in deep. Floor polish is recommended obviously but it can be harder to work it into the joints because it has to try out before it makes the joints tighter.

UW Superion for his better colors/cheaper price than CW.

CW Defensor for better colors, but he might be way more expensive than the UW nowadays, except for Groove.

CW Bruticus for the superior colors and better QC.

UW Menasor for the better hip ratchets and better colors. Also probably cheaper than the CW version. You will still basically need both PE sets for him though, he's the worst aesthetically without them, and 2nd worst stability-wise without them.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about wanting a Skylynx MP

It would be pretty dirt simple to make a high quality figure of a rectangle with treads that turns into a cat and a plane that triple changes from a bird to a bird with a long neck and a tail which then pegs into the cat. Maybe even have a little compartment on the underbelly that can fit an MP car inside of it as an homage to the toy.

Point is, CW Skylynx is nice but I really liked the combiner-lite aspect of the original toy and I want a good modern version of that.

Animated KOs appeared almost a full month before their retail counterparts.

Consider the production cycle. Let's say for the sake of argument a toy takes a year to produce enough of for distribution. In that time they have to replace the injection molds maybe 5 times. Those molds are supposed to get recycled. Instead they fall off the truck and end up in a fly-by-night factory where the KOs get produced. THEN they get recycled for scrap.

KOs get the lead time against official product because there's no red tape surrouding their distribution. Where an official figure has to clear the name trademark, have individual packaging produced etc. a KO can be distributed in a generic card or even just polybagged.

The result is, retailers get the KOs made from inferior plastics and faded molds before the official product drops.
