Then once Christmas I was given an AM annual which had a brief bio on action man, Jesus Christ he's Jason Bourne. He's a super soldier who has amnesia and doesn't remember his past and all this shit.

Also AM is literally the most European toy line I can possibly think of.

My all time favorite set as a kid, the diving apparatus could be taken off and he had a wetsuit underneath, the shark was a giant rubber hand puppet that could move its mouth. there was a hole on the inside of the Sharks mouth, and figures could fit waist deep into it, so you could recreate quints death in jaws.

Hell yeah. Action Man was my back in the day. Had all of those and clearly remember the car being my favourite vehicle. I played so much with the missile gimmick the mechanism eventually broke, which devastated the 7 year old me.

Pic related was my favourite Action Man toy. Roller blades had just became the next big hip thing when it came out over here. Add to that the cool looking, but ultimately impractical, helmet, the grappling hook that doubled as a zipline, the street luge mode, and you pretty much had the most awesome toy ever. Kinda want to buy a new one now, but fuck paying the prices that thing apparently commands nowadays.

I miss Action Man. I always liked how he had all these different skills that weren't exclusively military/action hero themed. He was a formula one racer, a cop, an archer, an off road skateboarder all sorts of cool shit. It's the sort of variety and imagination that's really lacking in action figures these days, and I wish it would make a comeback.

Also, at one point Action Man tamed a fucking grizzly and taught it to shoot missiles at his command.

Action man had so many head sculpts throughout the years, but this one is god tier, I like how he looks more mature and Sean Connery like, unlike the later figures which looked like a member of the backstreet boys.

The super old school action men from the 60s and 70s look so cosy, sometimes when I get sentimental I imagine being a young boy back in the day, they look so high quality.

I read an article recently about how action man has no place in today's world, it was written super feelsy, It really god me down.

I swear, the adventures I had with my action men, even though they all took place in my head, I'll never forget them.

What happened to this line over the years made me sad as fuck. All these big ass detailed vehicles and toys with full cloth outfits and for the time amazing articulation and gimmicks...and then they kept getting cheaper and more stylized, with less and less cloth materials until finally they were just 30cm, 5POA action figures. I think the line went kaput shortly after that.

Holy shit Action Man was my jam when I was a kid. IIRC I had the Dr X with the translucent green arm, an Action Man with the mecha suit and the electronic gatling missile launcher doodad and a few others. Never had any other villains though aside from one of the X-robots.

I almost wish a high end company (or really anyone that isn't Mattel) would do a collector's reboot with a super-articulated base body and more of an emphasis on sculpt/articulation/paint and shit than gimmicks, but would still be compatible with all the cool vehicles and shit from the original toylines.

I honestly can't find any anywhere listed for sale.

The actual name of that specific figure is "action man VR atak" (yes it's spelt atak, not attack), also don't confuse it with a figure called "action man VR strike" as that's from the nineties and is one of the most famous classic action men.

It's from 2009, so it's relatively new by action man standards considering they stopped production in 2010 (I think)

Also I wouldn't say he looks like Denton, looks more like neo desu. And if we're talking DEUS ex, he looks more Adam jenson with the orange glasses.

I'd hardly say the gimmicky guns were 'rare'
you could buy little packs of accessories "desert gear" or "arctic gear" etc.
and they usually had the firing missiles
like the " x biker gear" set,
(dr.x intended, had boots, trousers, repaint helmet, purple sunglasses and a purple baseball bat that could fire a missile)
the basic figures had the standard guns (like in the pics you linked,)
most had the desert eagle though.

supposedly, (according to the comic)
he knows action man (and am should know him)
and revenge is being sook for an event that happened in the past, said event led to the scarring that this guy has,
how he came to work for dr.x is explained earlier in the comic story,
dr.x finds this guy(X), and injects him with a stolen super serum( the intention that X will be the general of a serum powered army,)
only X gets the serum and not long afterward a.m (in his bungee extreme gear) retrieves the serum, only to be cornered by X who state the info from the beginning of the post

a.m and X fight, this leads to a.m being hurled into the base of a stack of canisters, which collapses, one of said canisters splits open showering prof. gangrene in a mix of chemicals which freezes him solid,
dr.x and X escape and a.m hands gangrene over to the authorities who put him in secure holdings,
>>
>>5908488
the next story that featured X actually addressed the name confusion by christening him MAXX (his own choice)

Hasbro did use the mold for that 2009 Cobra Commander from the movie line. They just added the chest armor piece and gave it a loose-fitting mask. I guess they didn't want to bother making another "sort of disfigured" head.

Back in the hey day of 1/6th i collected a little of everything, including US Action Man. Mostly i was a GI Joe guy and this is one of my favorites but i think it started as an Action Man set. Oh shit I remember this line. I had an Action Man kite that came with a guy with a parachute pack. You'd fly the kite, attach the guy to the string and somehow he would slide up the string then fall off halfway up and parachute to the ground. Probably my favourite toy as a kid.
Also I remember McDonald's had an Action Man happy meal line, I got a Dr. X toy with a robot arm that shot a dart.

Action man was weird, there was a GI joe esque, Saturday morning cartoon in the early nineties that was its own canon, then the 3D series from the early 00's is its own canon, then there's the comics which ran for years and years which were their own canon. Basically there is no one time line, the toxic gut X is what he primarily looked like in the 90's cartoon, the one with the big arm with orange missiles was from the 3D one. The samurai ass looking one was from an unsuccessful revival, that was the last dr. X ever, and the rest were from the every changing comics, where X. Would modify himself more and more to the point he was barely human.
>>5905307 - this X. was basically his "final form", he died in the comic where this look was featured.

He later came back as the Kano looking one >>5901232, but it was on its way out at that point.
>>
>>5917710
good to know,
that makes it better in a collecting ideal, (I think)

**************************
I mainly had the confusion over the fact he went from skinny to steroid back to skinny then kanos, (although, so did gangrene, )
>>
>>5917726
I like the lack of direct canon, I think it inspires more imagination through play.

My adventures with my action men as a child were never based on any pre existing lore, I made up my own stories and adventures, the only thing that was kept the same in my mind were who the good guys and bad guys were.

When you bought a new villain figure it was like "cool, a new villain I can use to fight action man" as opposed to "Oh look, it's dr. X, action mans longstanding arch nemesis who's exploits have been documented in all these comics I've been reading."
>>
>>5917742
>it inspires more imagination through play.
good point,
>When you bought a new villain figure it was like "cool, a new villain I can use to fight action man

true,
one of my main plots was:
max steels "psycho" was one of the underlings who rose up the ranks and tried to overthrow x, then went rogue and tried to defeat x and a.m, either alone or accompanied by a generic "not action man" figure (mainly they drove the car)
on occasion psycho teamed up with x & gangrene or a.m to fight the others in fake truce situations (always with large explosives)
usually being thrown from the top of a high structure for the betrayal, but kept coming back,
fuck, im getting all nostalgic.

Because it's called "final battle"

Because it features doctor X in his most extremely badass state. This is his final form.

He comes with a regular bionic arm and a sparking saw blade arm.

Action man is bruised and bloodied which screams shit going down, especially on a kids toy.

It features action man bare fistedly punching the shit out of a full metal cyborg.

It's a two pack between the hero and his arch nemesis, both of whom look more badass than they ever had before.

It's got explosions.

well...no weird action cyborg dude for me today

I thought he costs like regular action figures. Not more than 100$. especially for a figure from 00s. And he seems to be rare.
Not an action man fan but i really love this design.
>>
>>5918044
That's the problem with AM figures,

They completely fall into the "trough of worthlessness"

I.e Something that was always insanely popular, like modern Star Wars figures, will always be cheap, because many, many people keep them in boxes and bought them, so they're always in circulation.

Whereas AM was never THAT popular, so it's rare to find someone selling them, let alone one still in a box. Couple that with a new high demand for them, and you've got yourself a super expensive figure.

That guy probably only cost £20 when he was first released.
>>

It's legit.

Action man figures are kids toys, they were never that detailed. Also the flash on that camera in the photo makes it look 10x worse and more plasticky.

I also can't find any evidence they were action man knock offs.
