Who read ToyFare growing up? I had it in my comic pull list back when I collected. I looked forward to it more than Wizard or any other comic I subbed to.
>>
I remember when I first discovered ToyFare. I was in a grocery store with my mom and I saw the Power of the Force AT-AT on the cover and HAD to have it. I was so excited to see new Star Wars stuff...

Great magazine, gave me tons of laughs over the years. I miss Zach Malamute.

Came for the toy magazine, stayed for the Twisted Toyfare Theatre.

The G.I Joe Guide from 2006 one issue became one of my favourites.
>>
>got my first issue while in new york for christmas in 2003
>just thought I'd like at all the neat new shit coming out
>got that and banter between the toys on every page

I subscribed as soon as I got back to my home state and didn't end it until the final issue with vader on the front, I was so sad to see it go.
It was the only magazine I've ever read every word of from cover to back cover every single issue.
>>
It was neat at first. Enjoyed seeing some of the sneak previews. Loved Twisted Mego Theater.
But after awhile it became nothing but dick and fart jokes, so I quit buying it. That kind of humor is good in small doses, but when it's there all the time, it's just stupid.

That didn't really bug me, but it didn't surprise me when I found out nearly everyone there had left for robot chicken because the humor was exactly the same.

I bought the first 7 or 8 Twisted Toyfare Theatre collections. I haven't reread them yet and I'm worried the humor hasn't held up.

I still laugh at this shit.
>>
>>5895397
The comics were the main reason I bought these. I wasn't even collecting toys anymore at the time... though, it did reinvigorate my interest and I started up again.
>>
>>5895391
I dunno about 7 or 8 but Vol. 1 still holds up. I'm reading it right now because of this thread and I'm laughing pretty hard.
>>
>>5895408
Cool glad to hear it. I might read them soon.
>>
Dr. Doom building death contraptions out of Lego will never get old.
>>
>>5895357
I loved this shit. Picked up every issue. I loved the stormtrooper squad from the Twisted Toyfare Theater.
>>5895397
Good times.
>>
Someone knoes where to DL scans of these magazines?
>>
>>5895357
I think the first issue I had was a 2004 preview of new stuff coming out. The previews of new stuff was what really held my interest, as was Twisted Toyfare Theatre (>>5895391 yes, it still holds up. It's often crude but wildly funny). However, I came to really enjoy their articles, as well, even though a great deal of it was 80's nostalgia (which is admittedly understandable). Their "toyline catalogs" i.e. Lord of the Rings, Marvel Legends, etc were also amazing, and they had many great features over the years as well as a humorous mailbox portion.

I miss Toyfare.
>>
I had one magazine where they had a comic of Xavier being beamed up into the enterprise. The crew thought he was Capt Picard and wondered why he was in a wheelchair. This was in the mid 90s years before the Xmen movie.
>>
>>
Toyfare's presence helped encourage the idea that toy-collecting was an acceptable adult hobby for me. while every other thing like Tomart and Beckett existed, Toyfare was the one having fun and making fun. I was kind of devastated that Wizard decided to be an online thing, because nothing online sticks out like a magazine in the magazine section does. I even collected Anime Insider because of those damn word balloons they'd throw in.

However, as time went on, and discovering /toy/, the magazine stopped being useful to me. jokes got stale, news got old, articles got kind of boring...but i still keep my old issues in a box under my bed, and got the last one before it was gone for good.

>>5895383
im pretty sure the last issue was this one.
>>
>>5895675
>last issue was for the green lantern movie

what a wet fart to fizzle out on
>>
>>5895746
eh, i still think this toy was pretty cool. for $3
>>
>>5895391
Some of it doesn't hold up but the ones that do hold up better than Robot Chicken.

Final issue of Wizard had Green Lantern film cover, too.

Honestly considering how whoever was in charge (Gareb Shamus probably?) completely fucked up both magazines, it's actually fitting.
>>
Once when I was off camping with friends during summer vacation my parents tossed out my entire collection. Came back and several shelves on my bookcase were empty. Like 5+ years worth of Toyfare, Wizard, gaming, video game and comic magazines gone.
I was very upset. Still am.

Didn't Toyfair offer exclusive mail order figures?
>>
>>5895890

They sure did! They got in cahoots with Toybiz mostly...but even Claybourne Moore had some exclusives. I actually still have the exclusive Action Fleet Dagobah X-Wing.
>>
>>5895642
The difference between what passes for 'geek' humour nowadays and back in ToyFare's day - you would actually have to be somewhat familiar with Colossus' character arc in the comics to fully appreciate the joke here.
>>
>>5895916
Glad they died desu, they'd just be full of normie garbage now.
>>
>>5895395
the TTT trades are dog shit, since DC were babies and forced them to censor/reshoot the first two years of the strip to remove all DC characers
>>
>>5895675
Toyfare worked because Tomart and Beckett were snobby and anti-super hero/robots and tended to be of the generation which considered the 3 3/4th GI Joe line to be an abomination and constantly cheered the fact that the ARAH line went away in the mid/late 90s.

Toyfare ruled because it dealt with ALL toys, as opposed to how Becket and Tomart (at least in the beginning) thought toys all began and ended with Beanie Babies, Starting Line-Up and Barbie Doll sized GI Joes from the 60s

Less that and more AS is owned by the same people who own DC Comics and it's easier to make DC play ball, especially since the head of AS LOVES Robot Chicken and basically considers it the flagship show of the network....
>>
BTW Toyfare owes Marvel Legends fans a Venom vs Spider-man cover set based on 375. It was the fans choice. I asked Jesse Falcon about it though and he had no clue.

he openly supports gamergate, that should tell you enough. His twitter feed is also full of "women belong in the kitchen and I want to murder blacks" rhetoric.

Keep in mind, he fucked himself over by being a twat. No one else is to blame for his reputation being shit.
