So I got this guy the other day, would anyone like to see some pictures of it?
>>5879773
Yes. And how fragile is that thing?
>>5879778
I have a decent amount, and would rather not derail that thread.
>>5879791
Well, resin is an extremely solid material, but also a very brittle one. There's next to no play to it, so there's not much room for error. It's great if you handle it right, though.
Anyway, Gurren is super nice. I had worried that he wouldn't be different enough from GL, but in hand there's definitely more of a notable difference.
Also that face is striking, man. I haven't really checked, but I hope those teeth are painted, since white resin is super keen on yellowing over time.
The best part is the TINY Kamina inside. For how small he is, the paint is super well done. I should've broken out my ghetto macro lens to get a close up on him.
And then there's Lagann, who is also super tiny. Fortunately he comes with a little stand, because there's no way he could support himself.
The dome is also removable. I wish it somehow could've been integrated into the figure, but considering Lagann is around the size of my thumbnail, I can see why that wasn't possible.
I'm not sure my phone really does it justice.
What IS integrated is Lagann's drill, which is pretty cool.
With the help of an exclusive hand piece, which came with the figure when bought directly from Studio HalfEye's site, they can do the "Perfect Combustion of Manly Soul Cannonball Attack".
I'm pretty impressed by how articulated Gurren is. It's not the SRC or anything, but for a HalfEye figure it's very nice.
The transformation is really cool - it uses springs to give the same sort of explosive effect seen in the show's gattai sequence.
The way the hip skirts are hidden is pretty neat.
One thing to note, and getting back to the question of fragility, is that there are a lot of pieces that are removable so you can tighten or loosen the various screws.
What this basically means is that parts tend to just fall off if you handle it a certain way. It's definitely not an action figure!
There are some subtle things that go on in the GL transformation that I never really noticed, like all the holes for drills that appear.
Gurren Lagann looks fuckin' wonderful. The proportions are dead on.
When this figure was first announced, I was put off by the raised logos on the shoulder pads, largely because they were the only glaring inaccuracy to the animation. But I kinda dig them now, and they definitely look better than the ones on the Riobot.
I do wish he had more ankle articulation, but the waist jointing is really nice. It works a lot like the SRC.
Maybe some separate larger boomerang sunglasses as well, but it's cool that you can store both of these on the face at once.
Of course, he comes with a pointing hand.
And this might be my favorite accessory. The top of the helmet slides open to give access to Lagann's seat, and you can swap the sitting Simon out for this one.
Waiting for SHE Escaflowne redux to break my cherry but I have a few questions in general.
How long does it take to transform?
How much screw tightening/untightening is involved?
Would a fall from a standing pose cause breakage?
Where did you get that beautiful piece and how much?
Finally there are 4 wrist drills. They're pretty scary to attach, but they look alright.
>>5879837
>How long does it take to transform?
It's not very complicated - maybe a few minutes. It's definitely nothing compared to some of their other stuff.
>How much screw tightening/untightening is involved?
I pretty much left mine loose for the most part. Generally, loosen anything before you move it, and tighten it once in a position you like. Of course, this is all precautionary stuff.
>Would a fall from a standing pose cause breakage?
Off a shelf? Absofuckinglutely. It would probably be okay if it just fell over while on a desk or something, but I'd still be super careful. I think my GaoFighGar fell back and was alright.
>Where did you get that beautiful piece and how much?
I got it slightly used off Yahoo Auctions for about 40,000 Yen. After middleman fees, domestic + international shipping, and extra padding, it ended up around 48,000, I think. Still beats the 61,560 MSRP though.
The screwdriver is something I've been hoping to get for some time now.
Here he is with the SRC, the only other GL figure I own.
>>5879832
>The proportions are dead on
Are you blind?
>>5879863
Well, dead on to my ideal GL proportions. It never really was all that consistent in the anime anyway.
Well, that's all I got. I'll definitely be looking out for those accessory sets - I like how this is the only GL with a customizable fulldrillized mode that has the drill-teeth.
Thanks for lookin', everyone.
>>5879854
The SRC looks so fucking shitty. The bullshit stylization was such a bad idea.
>>5879901
>No it doesn't, the SRC is the best of all the Gurren Lagann figures and it isn't brittle as fuck either
sounds like you were too poor to get the Riobot version.
>>5879773
thanks for all the pics. been on my wanted list for awhile.
Do you have pics of your other SHE? You mentioned GFG earlier.
>>5879854
Wow I always thought he was the size of Konami's GL. He's barely taller than the SRC?! Even with the perfect transformation gimmick he's no where near worth the arm and a leg price tag.
>>5879821
Always wondered how the sideskirt transformation worked on this figure. Mistery solved, thanks for the pics anon.
Conceptually I like a lot of SHE designs, but all the screw holes and panels, as intricate as they are, become a turn off. I have the MaxGokin Big O(not an SHE piece,of course) and its screw holes all across its back already bug me. That said, as far as their releases go, this one looks a lot more tidy than most.
Still hoping their escaflowne collaboration with Bandai sees the light of day, eventually.
>>5880191
>MaxGokin Big O
How much is that? SRC Big O is up to rape prices at this point.
>>5879872
Thanks for sharing anon.
Didn't even know this cool figure existed
>>5880192
Actually not as bad as you'd think. I got it a few months ago off Mandarake for $310 shipped. Brutal, but considering the SoC would cost about $400+ for the complete set between the standard release and web exclusive parts, its not that bad.
I'd say overall the SoC feels very unsatisfying compared to the MG. I may nitpick about the screwholes, but between the size, heft, and much better default sculpt, the MG just feels more right. Unless you have the expansion set the soC's wrong headsculpt will be a constant bother.
>>5880122
I have pictures of all the SHE stuff I own, but the quality varies.
Here's GFG, I wish I had the SRC to compare it with, since I believe they're around the same size.
Also that turquoise color never really comes off quite right on camera. I think I was able to get it closer here.
>>5880341
>>5880191
>this one looks a lot more tidy than most
Definitely, almost all the screws are hidden by removable pieces. It also uses screws that sit more flush to the body.
It's a shame there aren't more Gravion figures that transform.
>>5880354
Too bad this isn't a Perfect Change as well, but still pretty nice for a figure about as tall as a Legends scale Transformer.
Oh God keep the mecha porn coming. It's nice to finally see pics that weren't done with a Polaroid in a dirty Taiwanese basement.
>>5880362
No problem. Unfortunately I don't have too many more to post.
>>5880366
>>5880379
>>5880366
Oh god, is that clear plastic as brittle as I think it is?
>>5880382
Honestly, I don't think so. It's actually quite solid, which might be due to it being clear-cast resin.
On the original run of that figure, I believe he was done in white metal instead.
That's about all I got for the robots, but I do have some vehicle shots.
The drills on this are spring-loaded, which scared the crap out of me when I first got the figure and couldn't figure out how to get them back in.
I wish they had included some covers for the fists here. Maybe they would if they ever did some sort of renewal version.
There might be another release of this Gravion with some more G-Driller paint, but information on it is hard to find.
And that's actually all I got.
>>5879937
Sure you do famalam
>>5880444
Thanks for the shares. Those are great pics and it's nice to see them up close.
Waiting for any future SHE releases?
>>5880501
I'm seriously thinking I might buy their Chouginga GL on release - I just can't wait to see how they pull that one off.
>>5880191
It seems weird to have screwholes on the Max Gokin. At least with HalfEye's stuff the screws are there for a good reason (and I kinda dig that look but that's beside the point). You'd think they would at least include screw covers.
>>5880191
>I have the MaxGokin Big O(not an SHE piece,of course) and its screw holes all across its back already bug me.
There are screw covers included on the box, just use them if you don't like the exposed screws.
>>5880484
Yes, I do, poorfag.
>>5879773
Hope you're still hear Op but how is the paint? Any big chance of paint rub?
>>5885938
It's minimal, but I think it's very well applied where it is.
>>5880366
Wtf? My little dude is made of metal. Kind of makes the figure hard to stand
>>5887246
Oh you have the metal one? Nice!
>>5881650
Keep tellin' yourself that
>>5879773
You're a faggot.
Anymore balls ass expensive figures in your collection Op?
>>5887449
Keep projecting then, poorfag.
>>5887784
Shut up, poorfag.
>>5887736
Nah, not really. That GL is the most I've spent, and all my other HalfEye stuff I got for relatively cheap. I usually buy them either decently used or broken if I can (if they're salvageable). I was able to get GaoFighGar for under $200 because of that.
>>5880995
I need this.
