I like that he can store both tapes (since he comes with two this time) at once, though I agree the double-deck doesn't integrate that well with Soundwave himself. Of course being able to hold both tapes at once is something of a mute point when the set includes cassette cases for both Laserbeak and Ravage, allowing for good external tape storage as well.

Yeah, you can tell that it sucks. So Ravage is also a bust, and Buzzsaw wasn't a good toy either, so I don't think I care much to get this new Soundwave. It should have been an exciting possibility to get the set again, in a pretty faithful to G1 form.

Luckily I still like the video game Soundwave, with the spring-loaded Minions pretty well.

the engine block back of the head is now just below the back of the head, so there's something.
Also, his door "wings" are tilted down for the moment but I expect they'll spend most of their time up like bumblebee, which'll make it look more like his silhouette.
Plus he's got tall shoulders, and a surprisingly round head, and the front of the car mode is definitely laying flat against his chest instead of protruding out.
and the wheel placement suggests an overall transformation scheme pretty similar to the original.

I think it's just the coloring and lack of panel coverage that throws the look off, but that's all bayformers.

A serious question: do you think non-MP retail Transformers will ever make a return to more POA and more complexity in transformations? I've seen a downslide in quality ever since ROTF, where parents complained transformations were too complex. And don't get me wrong, some of those were absolute beasts to transform. But it seems like ever since then Hasbro just sort of gave up. With each new show and movie and toyline it felt like there were less and less great figures to choose from. And now I read reactions to their figures and I feel like everyone has just decided to settle, y'know? We tell each other that the hyper-simplified figures with rudimentary articulation are good, cause they are good for modern Hasbro. It's like we were brainwashed.

Sometimes I wonder if we can ever go back.

POA will always be in flux. My first transformer, Cheetor from 96,has more articulation than a lot of modern figures. Right now, the headmaster gimmick is really hurting figures' head articulation. Yet, you still have modern figures like Rook with above average articulation for a transformer. I think when we move past gimmick updates, we'll get better articulation as a standard.

Budget wise, things won't get better. That said, I think they're doing a decent job making more appealing toys. Yeah ROTF had a bigger budget and more complex figures with impressive transformations, but ultimately the designs don't appeal to me. Even universe/generations where hampered by bizarre design decisions. With this team, there's less bullshit. There's still some , like holding off on G1 limbs for exclusive release, but at least there's nothing like "TFTM characters must be realistic vehicles because we must synchronize with the Bay movies, which don't have cybertronian vehicles" or "Dinobot is brown and purple because these where his Predacon colors". This new team just needs to make Dinobots to put the last nail in the coffin to Aaron Archer's bullshit about"we can't sell too many toys in the same colors "

The decrease in parts-count after rotf is due to the spike in oil prices and rising labor costs. Oil prices have since recovered and you could see that during TFP:Beast Hunters where they gave everything more plastic and brought back ratchets for voyagers. They have since shifted operations to Vietnam to keep labor costs low but they left all the toy-making expertise back in China and had to start anew. So today I found all of the Legends cassettes, as well as the two boomboxes. Rumble was the only phonebot who interested me, so here he is.

Robot mode is neat, but having his elbows so high limits the things you can do. Elbow range is actually great though.

Here he is with the best piledrivers I could squeeze out of him. They're alright; the tube detail on the left arm really sells it and I wish the other arm had it too.

Be aware that the mushroom peg that connects his forearms/elbows to his shoulders may pop out with enough repositioning; pay particular attention when transforming him.

Phone mode is an actual brick. It's pleasing to have in your hand, and the stickers are positioned well so there's no rubbing against other parts when transforming him. It's a shame the sides are hollow (and that there's not enough piledriver details to make up for it), but gun storage is neat.

My favorite detail on him is this earphone jack that actually accommodates earphones.

Overall he's a good figure to have, and a fun toy. I can't quite comment on all of his features because I have neither Titan Master nor boombox, but he stands up fine by himself.

I don't know if I would recommend him to those specifically collecting Legends class though. He's wildly out of scale with most of the other bots, and there the phone mode is useless outside of being a snack dispenser.

Targets in my AO did a toy aisle reset. Yesterday i saw Titan Masters, Voyager and Legends scale guys, no deluxes. Also just wave 1, i have to make that clarification because apparently TRU had skipped the first Titan Masters and jumped right to wave 2 which is how i got Brawn and only Brawn. TRU and Target also stocked the new RiD15 Legions, the ones marked for Mini Con Weaponizers. I skipped Bisk because he looked more bug like than lobster like. The upcoming Warrior Bisk is better BUT i might go back and get him just so i have a buddy for Clampdown who's never going to get a Warrior anyway. I bought Groundpounder, though, nice! I fold his treads all the way back on his bot mode because that looks better and silverback

A little of both, I guess? I actually did buy one or two deluxes of characters I just wanted, and they're not really great toys in their own right, you know? They're all about simplification and compromise for the sake of also being an arm/leg. Like, I get what they were trying to do, and even though I still think everything was a bit overpriced, I guess they ultimately succeeded.

I was almost convinced to buy Menasor until I saw how damn awful his lower torso looked, and heard all the horror stories about weak joints and shit. I decided to just avoid the whole rats' nest of self-repair and expensive 3rd party add-ons just to make a decent toy, and saved my money. Although I didn't really, I bought a shit ton of MPs over the last couple of years.

I thought I was out of retail TF completely until I picked up Hardhead because he looked so great in package, which I honestly couldn't say for pretty much every CW toy I saw. It immediately became apparent that this was the first deluxe toy in years that was entirely self-serving.

I seriously kinda love the TF Prime Cybervers Jack Hammer. Lots of imaginary space-fairing adventures to be had. There needs to be more playsets for Legends/Legion figures.
