How do I start collecting figures? /toy/ verified shops? /toy/ verified companies?

Revoltech and Play Arts Kai from J-List.
>>
>>5815957
Literally walk into any Target, Toys R Us or Walmart and they'll have a decent enough selection of Marvel, Transformers, DC, Lego, Megabloks, and other random shit to buy. You'll probably enjoy 98% of what I've listed and in a few short weeks you'll have outgrown every American toyline because you find everything that doesn't have to be shipped from grand Nippon to be utterly worthless and beneath you.
>>
>>5815957

Google characters/series you like, browse the selection then look for reviews.

Pretty much any review will go over quality, amount of articulation, paint job, and give you an overall idea on if the figure is worth it.
>>
>shot heroine through your balls
>pull up Brazilian fart porn
>blast your load on your keyboard
>go to Mandarake
>hit every key with cum on it in the search bar
>purchase the first result

It's how pretty much all of us got started.
>>
>>5815957
If you're a weeb like me, then go to myfigurecollection.net and search up some of your favorite characters. Then search for that figure on sites like Amiami, Mandarake or Jungle
I don't buy many Western-made figures so I can't help you there

Alright nerdo listen up

American shit can best be purchased at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and Walgreen's.
Depending on what you're into you have the following options.

Marvel Legends : Each retails $20 with 3 packs around $50-60. Obvious what the line is about. Probably on the most poseable american figure side.
Good solid line with minimal issues surprisingly.

NECA : About $15-50 range. Despite the usual "NECAAAAAA" meme shit still a great line tho it does have more common issues. (Weak joints, Paint apps, Seems a character issue tho per figure)
This line covers majority Video Game and Sci Fi Movie characters.

Transformers : Wide price range
Again obvious what the line is about and there are actually some pretty solid ones out currently with the Combiner Wars series. Masterpiece are the high end ones and usually worth it.

Lego : Huge price range
The most iconic line and despite what people say they are pretty affordable. There is some realllly good set's out currently and it covers a huge range of series plus it's fucking Lego. Don't like the set or bored? Rebuild it. Learn how to MOC then come back to the Lego Gen so they can laugh at you then give you good criticism

Mega Bloks : Really good price range. Nearly $3-100+
Long ago Mega Bloks wouldn't even be listed here. They made so much off the Halo line that they actually improved Brick quality and part quality and are a legit competitor to Lego now.
The current line is Halo, Assassin's Creed, Cal of Duty and Destiny. The mini Fig's aren't as charming as Lego but would win hands down in a "toy to Life fight to the death" against Lego guys. The new bodies are really poseable and detailed.

TMNT : Decent price range. Playmates are making them now and from what iv'e seen they're pretty decent for the price. Poseable enough with some charm to them.

Star Wars : Various price range
They cover just about anything you want from SW. Black Series is the current Action figure line.

Now for Grorious Nippon.
You can get this shit from Amiami, Hobby Search, Hobby Link Japan, CS Toys and Mandarake.

S.H.Figuarts : Most sit at $35-60 Retail
This is in my opinion the best Poseability on a Figure. They cover a huuuuge variety of Tokusatsu, Various Animes, some Video Games, Movie characters like Marvel and even some famous Celebrities like Freddie Mercury and Bruce Lee.

Figma : Usually $40-60+
Second best poseability in my opinion. They are great but not as poseable as Figuarts. Still top of the list tho.
They cover mostly anime characters and a small chunk of Video Game characters.

Mafex : Not sure price range
This is a newer line that made a solid Batman, Spiderman and now is doing Star Wars and others. From what iv'e heard they're a good enough line that a few are worth getting.

Gunpla : $8-80+
The original Model Kits. Gunpla are easy to snap/snip out of the tray, shave the nubs off and piece together with the HG kit's or Dedicate half a fucking day+ or more to making one with a MG Kit. There are ones you gotta do literally everything with too but hey it's Gundam and that's part of the fun.

Nendoroid : $30-50+ range
These are "chibi" style cute characters. I think newer ones actually have arm or leg joints but for the most part it's swap parts for poses. They cover a good variety too.

Cu-Poche : $35-50+ range
Like Nendoroids but alot more poseable. Really cute style and good clean details.

Polynian : $40-60+
Incredibly poseable figures for Lewd fetish robots. If you're into that kind of thing. I know I am.

Welcome to the slippery slope

This. The easiest way to lose your money and find shit you want is to just browse /toy/. Then search for that shit.

Then you can ask about retailers in the appropriate thread.

I'm not OP but this is a very good intro to toys, anon.
>>
>>5816198
>>5816233
...Huh. Yep. Pretty much covered all the bases, there.

I'd only add that Jazzwares used to be fucking garbage, but with the recent acquisition of Nintendo properties, their paint applications have become slightly better- however, their articulation sucks dick.

Missed 3A and Hot Toys.

3A | $50 - 200+
>Designer figures with clothing and a unique style. Has a handful of video game/movie licenses.

Hot Toys | $175-400+
>Highly detailed figures based off movies or video games with good articulation. They are 1/6 scale (~12 inches) tall.

Both of these are the kind you could have a few of and I doubt any one would bat an eye due to how interesting and detailed they are.
>>
>>5816198
>Combiner Wars Series
Nigga get with the times, it's Titans Return.
>>
I'm gonna high-jack this thread so I can ask a question. I want to like... re-jump start my passion for toys, like I got burnt out on robots and I want to go to something simpler. Cheap posable and accessories I think? Or maybe just something rad, any advice or suggestions?
>>
>>5816679
The Nintendo stuff is made by Jakks, not Jazwares.
>>
>>5816233
You forgot Revoltechs.

same price range and scale as Figuarts and Figma, have very stylized sculpts and joints which can lend to some really dynamic looking poses, or really weird shaping and inability to hit basic neutral poses. various anime, video games, and sometimes Marvel.
>>
>>5816936
How cheap? Because Marvel Legends come to mind but they start at $20.
>>
>>5815957
First piece of advice?
Get the fuck away from /toy/.
As far as you possibly can and don't look back.

Search for toy collector/action figure collector sites and message boards, go there, sign up lurk, and become part of the community.

This place is a toxic shit hole. The atmosphere is not good for you, and you'll find you start hating the hobby jsut because of the people that post here.

All the good people left a long time ago. So go find them and have a place where you can celebrate your hobby, not mourn it.
>>
>>5816954
>same price range and scale as Figuarts and Figma,
Are they now? I haven't bought a recent release in a long time, but the Eva Evo line were about half the size of Figu/Figmas.
>>
>>5816973

Then why the fuck are you here?
>>
>>5816973
I hate /toy/ but still love the hobby. And honestly I do think that most posters here are alright, it's just that the board being so slow allows our dedicated shitposters to do whatever the fuck they want and their shit just sits there for weeks rather than being washed away by activity.

And as bad as this community can be, I gotta say that in my experience it's ten times better than any sort of site or forum dedicated to collectors. They're just as autistic with the added detriment of having identities to cause even more stupid drama. Plus they usually stick to specific lines and rarely venture out. Yeah /toy/ is pretty split up into generals. but it covers all bases pretty well and it's still pretty common for people to make threads for more obscure releases.

Why so mad?
Hit too close to home?
>>
>>5816973
Which toys are you collecting? Because the Transformers and Bionicle generals are easily more tolerable than their respective message boards. Sites like TFW are filled with attention whores and annoying dumbfucks who stick like glue because they technically aren't breaking the rules, and you can't call them out on their bullshit because hurting their fee-fees IS against the rules. Discussions over there derail into pages of people telling each other they're stupid in the softest, lengthy, and most ineffectual ways possible, while here you can tell people what you actually think about the dumb things they've said and it loses steam after a few more posts because nobody has a reputation to feed their ego with.
>>
>>5816964
20 dollar is affordable though I'm not a big marvel fan.
>>
>>5817012
>I can shitpost all I want and there's no consequences cuz I'm anonymous!
You've probably been banned from most of the good boards/groups.
>>
>>5816973
>This place is a toxic shit hole.
yep
>The atmosphere is not good for you
yep yep
>and you'll find you start hating the hobby jsut because of the people that post here.
wat
What kind of sheep are you that you can't like something just because some asshole spoils shit for you? Fucking faggot.
Go to some hugbox website to eat someone's ass out while being circlejerked to feel better about yourself because someone said they dislike your toyline or criticized your favorite figure of forever untilthenextflavorofthemonthhits
>>
>>5816973
Anywhere you recommend? I'm in the same boat as you and the drama from this Wonfest has got me on the hunt. I've tried a couple other communities and really ended up hating them as well to the point where I'm just tempted to build my own. I like toys when it comes to releases but some of you guys really need to relax and learn to ignore the shitposters.Tired of good threads being 80% shitpost debates and 20% content. It's also a shame how much a lot of the board complains about a lack of OC or fun threads but when ever an OC thread emerges its either the same shitpost fest or is ignored tremendously other then the photo general which usually consists of the same 4 posters. It's at the point where I think it's just the nature of the hobby and the people it attracts.
>>
>>5816947
Oh.

Well, Jakks still sucks dick, then.
>>
>>5817004

Why dodge the question?

I was only remarking on your hypocrisy. I don't mind this place.
>>
>>5817012
Are you getting 4chin and forums mixed up?

Because that sounds a lot more accurate on 4chan (sans the attention whoring) than on forums.
>>
>>5817145
Nope, I haven't. Only forum I'm banned from is Seibertron and that was nearly 10 years ago.
>>
>>5816233
I think this is pretty good but I dunno why you'd mention /d/aibadi, I mean the fetish potential is great but at the same time it's a really small group as compared to many of the other companies you mentioned. Like, if you mention them, why not mention, say, Evolution Toys, or Original Effect, or Mezco? What about other groups like Kotobukiya? If you're going as small as Daibadi, why not mention Re-ment? There's a ton more too.

Also where's Revoltech?
>>
>>5816936
Neca is aight. I wouldn't have recommended them five or so years ago but they're getting better now. Right now my poison are aliens. I already loved the movies and games before hand. Now I'm looking into play art kai's, revoltech and monster arts.
>>
>>5817571
Because that guy only thinks with his dick.
>>
>>5815957
Do you seriously need someone to tell you how to go to a store and buy toys?
>>
>>5817661
>play art kai
Don't. PAK are widely inconsistent, with their newer stuff having outragous prices, they'll be bigger than most standard stuff, and the paint and details will be hit or miss. PAK is really more for hipsters who just want something big to put on their shelf and not play with it. If you want to go that way, then they're okay, but there are better option for shelf toys than PAKs.

Revols are fun. Monsterarts can be good, but it's easy to get burnt out by all the Godzillas.
>>
>>5816679
>>5817428
Jazwares Sonic figures were overpriced, but towards the end they got to be decent toys that didn't break on you immediately, could hold a pose, sometimes even had paint apps in the appropriate spot without looking patchy. Other than that, they were shit for Regular Show toys, they are shit for Gravity Falls toys, and who knows what the next thing they'll be shit for.

Jakks(the ones making the World of Nintendo line) has had hate for it that I can't understand. Their 1/18 figures were on-par or better than Hasbro's back during 25th Anniversary, their current Nintendo figures have great paint(though some of the earlier figures were splotchy), the 4-inch line is fairly consistently great for the price(well, the 9 dollar price, fuck TRU wanting 13). They've made some blunders in the WoN line, mind, like the sudden scale-shift the OoT Link has(along with his awful sculpt that prevents proper articulation), 6-inch Dong's huge head, Mario variants choking the 2.5" line(No one wants Cat Mario. No. One.), hiring Matty's 'Toy Guru'(Who may not be working there anymore, he's doing stuff for Jada), etc, but they're not by any means 'bad'.

Companies is whatever the fuck you want.

Shops are amiami, HLJ & some other weeb sites I'm forgetting for imports. Amazon, Target, Walmart & Toys R Us for American figures.

Ebay is good too, but don't buy anything from China. If it comes from China it's a bootleg. Ebay is the best way to get older figures as Amazon rape prices them.

we dont deserve a sticky. we arent mature enough for one.
