A new building contest all about our favorite mask hoarder.

Build the "evilest" Makuta ever, and stand a chance at winning the entire BIONICLE reboot range, from the first wave of 2015 to the second wave of 2016. The grand winner also gets a limited edition BIONICLE art book.

But ALSO, another art book will be given away to a random participant, so even if you think your building skills are shit, you still have a chance at getting stuff.

Full contest details will be up on Rebrick.com. Keep refreshing!

Good tim...
nope.
>>
In your opinion what are the odds for

-at least one of those titan Makuta forms to be an actual set
-the black Tahu mask to be officially released
-the Makuta Mask Maker form to be released
>>
>>5810097
>at least one of those titan Makuta forms to be an actual set
I'm not sure. You figure they would have told you if any of them were gonna be sets, but then again you wouldn't want that official word to limit the way you think about your contest entry.

>the black Tahu mask to be officially released
Very high. It might be in a 2-in-1 set like SG vs MM or the Kopaka Unity Set. It might also be a polybag, with the new black Mask of Fire as the incentive.

>the Makuta Mask Maker form to be released
Zilch. They didn't even give new parts to the model that was in the contest video.
>>
>>5810094
>Remember the days before the ball-and-socket system?
>he says, posting sets that came out after Slizers and Roboriders in the same year as Bionicle, with C-3PO and the Stormtrooper having ball and sockets in the shoulders, Pit Droid having ball and socket shoulders and elbows, and Jango Fett having ball and socket wrists

The middle one already has gimmicks built in, so we could get that. I hope we do, at least. I will flip my shit if we get the purple one with the Hulk chest.
>>
>>5810168
Shit, forgot the rest.

Only in Russia.

Probably in the winter wave paired with a small version of whatever the villains are going to be this time around.

Not in the UK. I still haven't seen any of the books in shops here.

But that was before it became the norm and when most Lego action figures had technic functions like gears and rubber bands in place of articulation. I should say "when ball-and-socket was in its infancy".

Fun fact. That Stormtrooper was only non-Bonkle set ever that used Mata-torso.
>>
The purple and gold Makuta has got to be the official one. The outright state the other designs were made by them and an intern and I you look, they are all comprised of pre-existing pieces sans the Emperor's cloth pieces. But we're obviously not getting that one because the bone chair and he's just wearing the MoCo.

The purple hulk-chest one has the most official looking construction. He has new stickers on his staff and thighs while neither of the red ones do. He possesses what look to be new skirt armor in warm gold on his hips. And again, the new purple cloth pieces. Maybe it won't be as big but it's obvious that the real set will take from the purple and gold one's design heavily. Saying it'll be either of the red ones is retarded. Also, his Mask Maker form is clearly just a fanbuild, he even has studs instead of the actual sixshooter ffs.

(Reposting from the old thread)

You know, comparing Overlord Makuta to the Tohunga, he doesn't look that tall after all. Sure, he's a big guy, but try imagining there's a Toa next to him. He's definitely taller than Umarak the Destroyer, but I don't think he's as tall as Grievous. Which is only a good thing, as it increases the chances of him being able to be sold as an official set.

>>5810285
It's not only about the height. The most important factor is the mass + this guy has vings.
>>
>>5810303
Get rid of the wings and change the chest of the middle one and I might like it. Otherwise, I would rather have the left version since the JtO Makuta is based on it and it has better weapons.
>>
>>5810303
I like the "brawler" model that one guy was talking about. I'd kill to see Makuta and Ekimu go full fisticuffs against one another.
>>
>>5810303
Overall, I like "Overlord" Makuta the most, fallowed by the middle transition on the left. He's the most unique color scheme and weapon out of the three, plus a bit better build.
>>
>>5810303
wait, are we going to have 2 cloth pieces next year?
Because the shape of the cloth on the weapon doesn't look the same as the one on his crotch.
>>
>>5810345
>>5810244
Don't forget the stickers and the hip skirt. I also think the two large gold bent horn pieces on the top of his staff are new but I can't say.
>>
I dunno. This all feels as if: "we got cancelled, but want something to show for our work on Makuta's design if we can't release it."

I sure as hell hope I'm wrong.
>>
Shit, son! It says "Captial" behind Makuta. I think when Ekimu knocked the MoUP off of Makuta, it transported the entire city into like... a pocket dimension; the Shadow Realm.
>>
>>5810352
They're from the Elves line
>>
>>5810396

>>5810353
Lego sets are in development around a year and a half before release, usually more when it's an in-house theme. If Makuta of Ultimate Power was to be released in 2017, they wouldn't hold a contest half a year before release because they got cancelled.

Can we all agree that the three Makuta sets we've been shown are a clear demonstration the line DID NOT do well? Literally no new pieces bar the clothing and the mask. No weapons, no armors, nothing.

What a shame.

The jto wasn't finished recently according to Volta. It's been done for about two months now.
And they couldn't be able to even produce the model in the show before these existed. If they decided to cancel Bionicle' next year the decision would had come somewhere around May if not earlier so they wouldn't even had any molds to show really.

I just noticed that Kopaka, Tahu, Lewa, Pohatu, and Onua's mask are all on the staff of the center one... but Gali's is missing. Gali 1v1s Makuta CONFIRMED.
>>
>>5810303
The one on the left (the JTO model) looks like it could be a combiner between a bunch of different things.

I think it exclusively takes bits and pieces from LoSS, Uniter Tahu, Creature of Fire (plus the trap), Uniter Onua, Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder, Umarak the Hunter, and Umarak the Destroyer.

Someone should test this theory, disassemble those sets, and see if they can make this.

I'm considering it but you know they're just going to give it to the biggest model.

Is the contest even on rebrick yet?

I was gonna build something in advance but I don't know if they're accepting applicants with G1 parts.

I figure they would, but it would be a bit unfair to all the people who got into it after G1.

Also, color schemes? I don't want to make a generic edgy makuta. Maybe purple, black, and green?

Holy shit this is disgusting. Remember when kids were the primary contenders in Lego competitions? Now they've all grown into fiscally irresponsible AFOL's that spend all their excess income on more and more sets to bulk up their collection and it's those fuckers that ALWAYS win these fucking contests. If Lego doesn't have a parts limit they sure as fuck need an age limit for their contests. I'm not entering but I'm fucking appalled by all these manchildren who think they're more deserving of winning this thing even though they're clearly not even the fucking target demographic. Like, you're telling me "Fuck Timmy, he's only 11 but if he really wanted to win he'd max out his mother's credit card to get more parts" is a totally justifiable argument? The playing field NEEDS to be leveled so these fuckers are weeded out. Anyone can stack parts on top of one another over and over and blur out the gaps and shit to make a moc vaguely in the shape of something. Moccists with talent can fill in those gaps and use parts uniquely to make a sleek, sexy design that actually looks complete and clean. Roa's a fucking hack and her Bayformer Makuta was a disgrace. Fuck elitist AFOL's who think they're more deserving of this competition than the kids the line is geared toward, and fuck Eljay especially.

Which is why I'm glad this ride is only 3 years long. It was fun to have a nostalgic high from G2 but everything else like the fan base and shit are aspects I'm glad to see fade back into obscurity. Swedish guy? I'm just some Burgerland 20 yr old who wishes Lego would stop letting it's child fans grow up to think they are the only ones that deserve everything. I'm just annoyed that Eljay keeps arguing the line of reasoning that more money=more dedication as if everyone in existence gets the same amount of disposable income and only the true fans spend that money on Leo. It doesn't hit him that some people just don't make enough. Or that some people are still kids and don't have jobs. Or that some AFOL's aren't in their teens and twenties and they just may have families and shit so they can't spend half their check on Lego every week. And I bet you if he didn't make good money and his collection was piss poor he wouldn't be making this argument. He's basically just defending his gluttony and the only others who side with his argument are also guilty of blowing wads on Lego or they're just fans of TTV itself and they'll agree to anything their idols say.
>>
>>5814914

Ok I get what both sides are saying but....

If Lego wants to run their contests in a certain way, then they can

I'm sure that Lego is aware that adults enter their contests, they aren't stupid. If Lego had a problem with it then they would make some sort of rule to stop them or at least mention it. As such I don't see why we are discussing this. Lego's gonna do what they want.

I guess some people are trying to say its morally wrong for adults to enter into a contest that is open for everyone? Or that there should be contest just for kids? If you want that tell Lego.

TTV boards are going to die next year anyways.
BZP with it's userbase couldn't make it trough the change, even less likely a smaller board like TTV is going to do it. If the next theme isn't generic robotmans electric boogaloo 7.0 it's fanbase will be on Eurobricks.

You are missing the point entirely. The beef is with Eljay's attitude on the matter. It's not a big secret that with no restrictions on size and an unlimited amount of pieces, you can create whatever vague shape you want. It takes no skill, only a massive investment of time and money, which only rabid fans like Roa are willing to commit. Adding to this, entries like those often overshadow smaller MoCs that don't use half of the existing parts library and have a more centralized focus than "add as many parts until it looks like something"

I am truly sorry if I upset you guys. My apologies.

>>
>>5814989
This was the core of my issue on the matter. It's not how Lego does their contests, just that some people in this fandom are selfish fucks and think money is equated to dedication, and more dedication equates to more entitlement. So basically a bunch of Lego shills who think they're the bestest fans ever keep mucking up the fan base and I personally hate it.

Hey Ausfags (and Kiwis), if any of you were optimistic about getting the sets, might want to consider their not in our catalog for June-December. Skull Fuckers were in the catalog last year, so we might not be getting this wave. Skull fuckers were also not out until August though so maybe hold off on doom and gloom for a couple of days.

And to international fags, this wouldn't reflect on your home markets because constraction has had a week presence here since the start of Hero Factory. Bionicle's done a lot better than that did in its last couple of years. If it's doing well where you are, it's fine, don't worry about it.
>>
>>5815230
Mixels aren't in the German catalog and not available anymore outside of Lego stores afaik, even though they often sold out instantly.

No idea what's going on at Lego anymore.
>>
So, taking a bit of a breath from all this contest stuff...

Wouldn't it be cool as shit if we got an alt-color MOCo with the supposed Makuta set next year? Like a trans-purple mask or something.
>>
>>5815271
I'm hoping we get a mask similar to Umarak's blend with black and trans-purp or maybe black and trans "brown" for Winter and solid gold one for summer. I'm absolutely certain we'll get two, since we've had two Mask of Creation and two Masks of Control.
>>
So, do you guys think we should have monthly challenges like they do on /lg/? Might help with getting people to post MOCs on here.
>>
>>5815341

>>5814762

>>
>>5815147
This is still pretty neat. The tail is really cool, and the head is okay. It's really the legs that the MOC starts to look terrible.

It's like how the Bayformers Transformers can look too busy, and it becomes a walk pile of shards instead of a cohesive build.

>>5815188
It can vary based on personal taste. But adding too much can certainly distract from the character.

Not be a shill, but Play Strippling's 30 minute MOC videos are pretty good in 'getting' how to make a good MOC, IMO.
>>
>>5815341
If we do I kinda want to do "tiny moc "for the first challenge, just to spite giant moc makers.

Me and another person I know (we met on bzp ironically) worked this out already and got them shipped

EG heaps of pieces would suit a strong dumb character however a smarter character would suit a more sleek design.

However theres an upper limit when it comes to looking realistic.

This kind of thing is exactly why the bionicle community is the laughingstock of the lego community. It's full of stunted children who were raised by internet hugboxes who can't take criticism or see the fine points of things. They delete opposition to their opinions and recede up their own arses. >>
>>5815819
You heard Eljay "If you put restrictions you won't last long" I'd love to prove him wrong.
>>
>>5815819
It's possible that TLG doesn't enforce part limits in official competitions because it would be very hard for kids to keep track of the numbers.

Maybe an actual size restriction would be better. Make sure your figure is no taller than X inches. Provide an image of the MOC next to a ruler to verify.
>>
>>5815626
>>5815147
The difference with the blue MOC is that I can see the basic details of the creature. Most fuckhuge MOCs like the red one just look like a mess of colours. I shouldn't have to consciously work out where the legs or head are.
>>
>>5815819
It'd probably be best if they had more refined criteria for the judges, and included 'economy' as one of them.

To give an example of how that could work, a big parts monster could gain major points in the visual appeal category for looking impressive, but then suffer a significant drop in the economy category for not making efficient use of parts and straying too far from what an 'official' build might look like.

Sort of like how in academic work you'd get marks for having a good argument, but then lose marks for being too wordy and pointlessly overshooting your limits.
>>
I think the mask contest was a good example of a well done contest. Sure the winner would still be someone who has a lot of parts, but the disparity wasn't nearly as big as the winner of the Villain contest's entry. The people who won the Mask contest were the people who used those parts to make coherent designs, designs with a recognizable look / silhouette that you could likely draw from memory if need be.

Capital.
>>
>>5816219
Capital. The Capital City was transported to the shadow realm with all the islanders that were present when Makuta revealed the MoUP. All thanks to that shockwave that happened when Ekimu whacked his brother.
>>
>>5816230
Is this official? What does the shockwave have to do with the transportation of the Capital City?
>>
>>5816235
It's not yet totally official but considering Makuta is giving a speech to a bunch of shadow villagers, and all that was left after the shockwave was a gigantic crater where the capital used to be, I think it's safe to assume that is was transported to a pocket dimension.

Again, it's been established that the city that the great crater used to be was the island's capital. And now Makooti is looming over a balcony with the word "Capital" carved into the building. Just putting the pieces together.
>>
>>5816261
>>5816235
And I should note, the shockBLAST is more of what I'm referring to. The explosion that took place upon Makuta getting hit that formed the crater. Not the tremors that followed resulting in the island's terrain getting fucked.

People have already mentioned to Eljay that they disagree with him and they've done it a lot more sensibly than calling everyone autistic or insulting people. It just makes you seem immature when you do this.

It takes a fourth level of complaining before people start to wonder why people complaining exists.

Personally, I'm entertained by all this and it makes me want to see Lego can this theme in 2017 even more.
>>
>>5816527
I'm not supporting either side of this nonsense. Its quite clear that people are bringing it up here because they are afraid of reprisal if they were to bring it up on the main sites. They can do it if they choose, just we could be chatting about more interesting stuff (E.g. the stuff we're here for... Bionicle)
>>
>>5816482
He'll just walk around your words and go off on tangents about the non-issues and in refuting those and ignoring the main argument, he'll say he'll win.

Similar to how he went on about "why doesn't Timmy just stack parts over and over", ignoring that the point of that statement was the stacking over and over only occurs with people who have said gigantic collections that a child would not have. Or how he basically states "no kid will be skilled enough to make a nice sleek compact Moc because they're too unskilled" basically just making generalizations to back up his shitty position. The whole point isn't simply about kids. It's that good Mocs like >>5814989 that are actually being smart with their parts are almost always beaten by Mocs like >>5815147 because of the fact that the size itself is apparently impressive to the judges of these competitions and it's clearly a flaw since anybody could do the bigger Moc with enough money, but only the truly talented individuals would be able to produce a Moc like the former. And having the most money shouldn't be what gets you to the finals. Also, I love how he again dances over the fact that the competition is too easily exploited by people with money, and goes to say shit like "oh because ur da pinnacle of Moc criticism", basically just trying to devalue Anon's stance because he's not a licensed judge. Ya know. Instead of actually showing us the true benefits to this busted system aside from favoring rich AFOLs. Seriously, it'd be more engaging and fun if there were some border to let everyone have some semblance of a chance. But of course, he's probably one of those who wishes to/or does make big Mocs and he genuinely thinks they're the best a Moccist can produce; because he sure as shit can't make anything small and decent looking. He probably has a hate-boner for people who make Mocs like what DeeVee makes. (Not that DV himself is great but he makes some good shit)

All the discussion for that ate up the last thread. Don't act like nobody discussed any of this and we all just instantly hopped on the complaint train. We can talk about whatever.

Although, MoUP is my fave Legendary for G2 for sure and I love the new Makooti skull faction symbol.
>>
>>5816542
I can't say this for everyone (although I know other anons that have done the same), but I've already had two accounts on TTV's boards banned because I've called out Eljay on his shit, both recent. I doubt any of my posts here, however reasonable, would make him think otherwise.

Good on your part on not taking part in this, but if you want to derail the circlejerk, you're better off not complaining about it and actually doing something like encouraging discussion about the new reveals that isn't already covered by the last thread, and using original content images to attract attention to that post.

[nospoilers]Are you the guy complaining about the laziness of the previous OPs about how they kept a stupid rumor video for the last couple of weeks?[/ontoy]

>>
>>5816584
They look just like the JtO version so I'd assume they're the final version. The detailing seems to be muddled because they're either 3D printed or hand painted tho. So hopefully we'll see runes added and more definition on things like the divides in the ring-crest on his forehead.
>>
>>5816588
It makes me think of the scene in Osmosis Jones where Bill Murray has a giant zit on his forehead
>>
>>5816566

I love that, like with the Toa, they're referencing G1 a lot, like the black protector with the black Mask of Fire, Makuta being able to shapeshift, him being called a Shadow Titan, the wings, etc, while adding new staff like the MoUP symbol (reminds me of the symbols Makuta and Takanuva got during 2003) and the purple and gold.
>>
>>5816617
I just like that Makuta has proper followers with a war faction symbol. Kulta just had puppets and Umarak just unleashes an ancient evil. Like, I'm looking forward to mooks that are dedicated to their dark master.
>>
>>5816661
Speaking of mooks: If the theory that Makuta's followers are actually the inhabitants of the capital that were sent to the shadow realm with him is correct, we might actually be getting villains for the next wave's small sets. Also something to potentially be excited for.
>>
>>5816709
Shadow Protectors would be interesting to see. Would that mean we'd get gunmetal dual injected with element colors for those guys or some other colorscheme?
>>
>>5816725
>>5816709
It would probably mean there would be significantly less off those small sets as the shadow/evil theme makes it harder to make them different enough from eachother

I originally thought that Ekimu was going to give the Toa new mask powers for their 2016 forms, and that they would play a more prominent role in helping defeat Makuta. This was supported by the official website saying that some skull spiders have special powers like X-ray vision, super speed, and enhanced strength. They could possibly still go this route, since we see skull spiders in JtO, but it's most likely not gonna happen.

G1 never did anything for Me. I gave them a shot back in 2008 or 2009 with Skrall and Tuma, and wasn't all that impressed. I was always more of microfig fan, anyway.

I picked up Skull Basher on a whim since he was marked down 50%, and he just clicked. Skull Warriors are awesome as giant fantasy terminators, and the giant devil terminator of Skull Grinder was something I never knew I needed until I got him. Ekimu was a pleasent surprise, being a smaller but awesome little guy. I'm tempted to go back and get some of the other protectors. I'm in love with Kulta, even if both Umaraks are better builds. I even had to get a gold skull mask for Kulta.

The Toa don't do anything for Me, though.

I'm all for experiencing the best of G1. What do you recommend?

They'll probably reach their final form when defeating Umarak, or at some point in early 2017
>>
>>5817087
I think he just might be referring to the Toa refusing to combine their powers together with darkness like the MoUP. Ekimu keeps saying "United but not one" is the path to victory, but Makuta likely believes that the heroes are squandering the true potential they have by not embracing the power of becoming "one."

All of which may or may not have something to do with the title.

2001-2003 are considered "the golden years" and it really shows, especially in the departments of creativity and having a unique tribal atmosphere, among other really nice things (mostly courtesy of the mata nui online game). The figures really don't have any posability in these years, like, at all. Instead, the focus is put on function.
I wasn't really there to experience the golden years in full, but I do think they are the best years.
After the golden years, stuff gets really complicated plot and lore-wise. The figures continue to retain function, but completely lose any gear related functions in 2006 (so glad G2 brought them back).
I don't blame you for disliking 2008 and 2009; not many people really liked those years anyway.
G1 was always a lot more mature and developed than G2 has been (and probably will continue to be).
If you only really care about sets, might as well stick with G2, but if you have some extra cash then just get a bohrok. Everyone loves the bohrok.

2001-2003 are good really only for the story. Sets are average by today's standards, even counting their functions. On the other hand since 2004 we got a shitload of great sets, from canisters to titans, that hold up pretty well.

Honestly the one of the only positive outcomes of Bionicle's possible cancellation again is what might happen to TTV/BZP. >toa use the power of one
With Ekimu dead and Makuta seemingly unstoppable, the Toa sacrifice their Uniter powers to create a Toa Seal. Makuta is trapped and the Toa revert to their weaker Master forms. The story ends with the Protectors and Toa at the Temple of Time trying to summon their half of the Mask of Time, hoping that it might allow one of them (probably Tahu) to go back and prevent Makuta from forging the MoUP because screw time travel logic.

Seems like it. Which raises the question how exactly this fits together with the Skull Raiders.
Did they originally come to Okoto from the shadow realm? Were the skellies in the ancient city part of the raiders or summoned fresh from the other world?
Will any of this even be addressed when it's only relevant to people who have read one particular book that isn't part of the main story? (Spoiler: No.)

>$35 on Amazon

What the absolute fuck? Why is Quake beast the one set that's been missing left and right in product listings and why is it suddenly just twice the price of all the other ones? Also, does s@h accept Vanilla Cards or is it weird like Bricklink?
>>
>>5820060
It's out of stock at s@h. Fuck me. I really don't want to shovel out $35 for this fucking thing.
>>
>>5820060
We talked too much shit about it when the leaks came out. Most Quake Beast sets that were produced ran away crying because it hurt their feelings.
>>
>>5819087
Holy fuck. Buy all of them and resell them for a couple of bucks profit.
>>
>>5819437
I think it was a TRU exclusive in the UK. That's where I got mine, anyway. The wings are a bit of a letdown, but the rest is fine.
>>
>went out searching for summer wave
>found a grand total of 3 sets from European August release window

And none of those were Bonkle. I just need to have them.
>>
>>5820324
The only summer Bionicle sets I've seen in my area are summer 2015 ones with a slight reduction. I remember a couple of months ago, there were winter 2015 sets at full price in some places with 'new' stickers on them.

I think Makuta is ashamed by this.
>>
>>5820397
The piercing or the donut?
>>
>>5820409
Isn't the donut under the skin technically a piercing or something?
>>
>>5820416
From what I remember, you inject a saline solution into the forehead then press the middle to form the donut. It's not quite a piercing.
>>
>>5820424
Oh, okay then.
>>
so bonkle is kill?
>>
>>5820507
Yes. Lego just released an exclusive magazine in Europe just to rub it in
>>
>>5820507
Yeah. And this general is kill.
>>
>>5820510
Keep in mind that not even the magazine got released in most countries here either
