As someone who's probably been collecting this stuff way longer than you, I would guess that if we only got the basics in this line witht he bare minimum reuse(Superion, Menasor, and either Devastator OR Bruticus) people would still be disappointed over them not doing enough. So it was either get this stretched out line with redecos/remolds, or just plain get a small line like most years of Classics releases.

They're okay, just expect to open them up and add some glue or Pledge to the joints to tighten then, and maybe repaint the face. Transforming doesn't work because the right leg never clips against the side properly. Ravage is crap but Laserbeak is very good.

Eh, the BO mold itself is alright, could use a bit of titty reduction surgery, but the main problem is the color. It doesn't match anything, and it's on BO and the larger Bruticus chest since the cartoon did the whole "shuttle bits become chest" thing.

The jet mode actually grew on me after I put SteamShield's head on it. A shuttle would've been preferable but Takara's mold isn't doing anything for me.

Hey I remember seeing this on Unicron.com as a kid. Probably someone clearing out his older stuff.

You newer fans proabbly don't remember, but there was a time when people had no idea if we'd ever see complete G1 updates. People would take anything that looks vaguely like, or shared an aspect with a G1 character, and repainted it into that. Oh hey, Megatron turns into a T.Rex, lets make him Grimlock. This Jetformer has wings kind of like Cyclonpus, lets make him Cyclonous! The RiD Car Brothers became basically every single G1 autobot car at some point.
A guy named TF master was basically the king of this era, and everyone drooled over his stuff.This was probably the first stapled together combiner custom I ever saw, and at the time it was mindblowing. Its all goofy now, but I wish he hadn't died before the '07 movie came out. Of course now a days, with more Classics stuff and a stronger 3P output, these customs are basically pointless.

Before we became bombarded with Combiner War figures, custom combiners were the only way to get 'updated' versions of the combiners we wanted.

I remember getting Classics Mirage from a store many moons ago and thinking to myself "man, this is awesome. I wonder if they'll make Drag Strip from this. Oh shit I hope we get the rest of the Stunticons too!"

Which then led to full gestalt speculations and hope back then.

Then when it didn't happen, custom combiners started to REEEAAAALLY seem appealing, especially when pic related was what we got.

RiD is rally the only line who's oriignal molds I'd say are pretty much all perfect, though I know a lot of people hate the Car brothers. Magnus is the one most in need of an update, but his whole point is being an Optimus power up.

Beast wars, though, could use updates. While the old figures are still good as toys, things like Generations Rattrap/Rhinox/Waspinator show how much can be done by giving them better proportions closer to the show. The season 1 designs are largely in need of updates. Some of the season 3 designs,a s well(namely TM2 Megatron's awkward robot mode and TM2 Blackarachnia's unruly, gimmick laden design). The Transmetals, though, are largely good. Still hope we get a Grimwing remold in Legends, eventually. takara proposed one a few years ago for a fanvote but it lost. Just remold the beast and robot heads and it'd work well.

Never really liked the idea of doing Hot Rod asSideburn. the flame decal is their only shared design trait. sideburn is asymmetric and thin. All things considered his old figure is perfectly showaccurate, and has better paint and detail than most modern figures.
