For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Somewhat related. I'm modeling a guncannon detector. Can you guys give me some opinions about the proportions? As you can see the hands, feet, and head are only blocked in for now. The backpack hasn't been started at all. Details and small touches are far from being done.

>Cracked polycap from gunpla
>First time ever

Wow, this never happened to me before and this is coming from a really new kit.
My old classic HGUC RX-78-2 after 11 years still has all its PC piece in good shape.
I am not sure whether I have a spare piece for that part.
>>
>>5676603
>>5676604
>>5676616

Your proportions are just a liiiiiiiitle off. Just by looking at it, I'd say that the chest needs to be a little shorter and a pinch wider, whereas the legs could benefit from some sort of beam or spacer to separate them from the crotch and give the suit its wider stance.

Other than that, you're off to a pretty goddamn good start.
>>
>>5676934
I might have a spare polycap, take a picture of the polycap outside of the kit.
>>
So I just snapped a clear piece in half. Figure I can't get replacement parts since I don't live in japan (as far as I've heard, still gonna contact and try)

Is there a way to fix a snapped clear piece and having no noticeable crack in it? It's essentially just a straight bar of clear plastic, how hard would it be to carve out a replacement part of the same dimensions from a runner?

I don't know if you have a Hyakuri or a Graze, but I know those kits don't use those polycaps from the same polycap runner.
>>
>>5675960
They're Thai's actually. Malaysia uses the roman script.
>>
>>5677124
I make it a point to save every unused piece/polycap but I don't have an extra for that one. Would gorilla glue/super glue work?
>>
>>5677077
I dug around.

From what I can tell, kits containing PC-002 all but one used the #6 piece for the hip/leg attachment.

Thankfully I got the one kit that does not use the piece .
>>
>>5677140
As long as the adhesive doesn't go inside the hole, you should be fine.

That's good to hear, I can't wait for Bandai to recognize the US as being a large enough market for them to supply replacement parts.

Time to see what everyone's building.

Paint on the joint is already scratched because I was trying the extending thing too much.

Can't bear to put any stickers on but bandai will never print more water decals.
>>
>>5677114
Too late, I already attempted to glue it together with cement and just ended up fucking up the piece more due to panic. I'm attempting to carve a new piece out of a chunk of runner but it isn't going very well.

I sent Volks and email asking if I could get a replacement runner, though I doubt they'll ship to Canada. At this point I'm will to just buy the kit again for extra parts since I'm modding the shit out of it.
>>
>>5677173
Buy a Graze, a Mack Knife, Hyakuri, or Grimgerde, anon. They don't use either of that specific polycap. Gusion if you really only need the one.

I've been burning out hard on my gbwc project. Since it doesn't need to be complete until August I've been slowing down on it and working on kitbashing hguc gelgoog with the old msv 1/144 Johnny Ridden gelgoog.

The hard part is that I already poorly seam lined and painted the hguc years ago when I was first learning. So I stripped the paint, put putty in the missed parts of the seams, and am planning how to paint the joints and around them as they are locked into the limbs. I'm also going to be mildly detailing it up with some new panels and such.
>>
>>5677183
Would there be a way to duplicate the part? As in creating a replica mold for the piece, melting down some of the runner material, and pouring it into said mold? Anything to avoid spending another $70 for a duplicate kit
>>
>>5677209
Unless you feel like spending a bunch on recasting supplies and clear resin, thrn no.

A picture of the piece or model would help. I have no clue what you're even working on.

Could you possibly post pics of what the old msv gelgoog's backpack looks like?
I've been thinking of doing the same thing, but I can't find it being sold anywhere and I've been wondering how much work I'd have to put into the backpack.
>>
>>5677430
I'll post it when I get home. I was lucky enough to snag one when hlj restocked on them several months ago. The backpack and custom bazooka are very slightly undersized and need very minor mods to fit, but nothing immediately noticeable and difficult.

The bigger issue is cleaning up the terrible seams on the parts from the old kit.
>>
>>5677632
Yeah, I remember seeing it in stock a while back and now I regret not buying it.
Anyway, thanks for letting me know and everything. Good luck on your build.

Anybody happen to know how often hlj restocks on the old msv kits?
>>
>>5677666
Depends on when bandai decides to reprint them.
>>

Hey, can any of you sultry builders rec me a pin vise? I'm an amateur when it comes to drilling holes. All I know is that Bandai runs off of a 3mm system, so anything that comes with a 3mm bit is preferred.
>>
>>5678369
>All I know is that Bandai runs off of a 3mm system,

They don't. Some polycaps are about 3mm but it really varies from kit to kit. You'd want a whole set of drill bits from 2.0mm to 5.0mm with 0.1mm steppings.

Pin vice, buy any set. Vices don't need to be great or anything.
>>
>>5678379
What the heck is a 0.1mm stepping?
>>
>>5678387
He means the drill bits get larger or smaller in .1mm increments, or steps. That is not a pin vise term, you are WAY overthinking this. Google a fucking pin vise, look and see what different companies make. You will see what he means.

Haven't posted an update on my MG Leo in a while. It's starting to come together pretty well.

Used the last of my styrene sheets on those ass thruster pods. I ain't complaining, though. 6 years worth of material was a pretty good purchase, in my opinion.

Everything else is getting closer to the final shape I want them at. I'll be able to see where I'm going wrong on a lot of these surfaces once my can of leveling primer gets here.

I cut about half a centimeter out of the lower legs to get him down to grunt height. Wish I had another Tallgeese so I could compare it to the changes made here. That'll probably be my next gunpla purchase, since I've been wanting to do a clean kit build for a while now.

The P-Bandai kit uses runners from the GM Striker and GM II. Even if they didn't use the P-Bandai kit, all they accomplished was slapping two kits together and making it look like it was covered in sewage with that gloss coat.

It's supposed to lower as a third leg to stabilize when firing artillery. I decided not to model any sort of mechanism for that, instead I'll be making the butt armor the stabilizer.

According to the Katoki lineart and sketches the Guncannon Detector's butt armor is a trapezoid with a big flat surface and for some reason the round crotch is used as a stabilizer instead. It makes no sense.

Leave the clear parts as they are, and flat green/blue as close to the tone of the clear parts as I can get.

Do you buy your kits online or from a local store?
I've been going to the same local stores for 7 or 8 years. They know me well enough that we talk about Gundam shows and gunpla whenever I come in, and they even give me a free kit on my birthday. So there's that, if that counts. Store owners can be total bros.

There's also people you meet in the store. If they're looking at the gunpla section, then at least know your hobbies are similar. You could always try being friendly and starting conversation, I've made a friend or two like that.
>>
>>5684182
It's either the Bawoo or Gazu l/r but some even say it could be Geymalk.

Bawoo is one of the cooler ZZ suits so it's expected people will be drawn to it, I'd expect them to make a Galbaldyβ before doing any Gazu but you'll never know.
>>
>>5684331
We kinda forget that the GM is still an 18m tall death machine since it's almost always ms battles. (like the slaughter in stargazer)
>>
Does anyone know of any decent diorama resources for gunpla?

Most interested in figuring out how to scale scenery such as trees correctly near a 1/100 kit

After discussing with a friend, reduced and repositioned the blue on Transient.
Also, I should have mentioned that this is planned for RG Quanta and HG Transient, since both kits have shiny stickers underneath their colored clear parts.

What about you guys? Anything I can improve with the scheme?

One of my local stores has the defective Zeta Plus kit for $16, which sounds like a decent price since I usually find it for 30something in other stores.

Is it worth it?

The problem is that I know the mold error will bother me. I guess I could try fixing the crotch with pla plate, but I don't know what to do about the head part. I've never really messed with my kits outside of seam wielding and
terrible
paint jobs, so I'm iffy about it.

>>5684594
pic related, the first release of the kit was recalled because of the molding error, I guess my local store didn't get the memo

I haven't put one together since this bastard, and he was a lot of fucking fun. I sure do miss when Toysrus carried kits.

To be honest, most modern kits are pretty poseable and fun. I say you should just pick one you like the look of and then ask us if it has any problems before you make the final purchase. Dalong.net has a pretty damn comprehensive gallery to look through, so go find something you like and then come back and ask about it.

If you really want suggestions though, the MG Origin RX-78 (seen here >>5684605) is stupidly poseable and has very modern and advanced engineering, if you wanted to really be impressed at how far Gundams have come since you last built.

I would also HIGHLY recommend a High Grade from the new Iron Blooded Orphans line. They're marvelously cheap, really fun builds, and the designs are interesting, unique, and very different from each other so there's something for damn near everyone.
>>
>>5684605
if you need to remove the front chest armor for whatever reason, be very careful as it will break on you very easily

Alternately....

It wouldn't be cheap since it was an exclusive, but Bandai did recently release a Master Grade Nataku. You could relive your childhood, but in larger, prettier, and better engineered form.
>>
>>5684633
This was a decent kit. I have death scythe hell as well, and its pretty fun. Shenlong is probably the coolest though. Especially painted up, dirty, and battle damaged. Fun painting it.

The one you posted looks really dope, would be fun to weather him like an old knight or something. Thanks for the suggestions, I will have a look around before I decide.

A long long time ago, when the internet was losing it's pureness, there was this amazing gallery of all the bandai kits, meticulous scans of the box and the instructions; I use to spend hours pouring over those, trying to find my favorite ones, without any clue how to actually buy half of them.

Thinking about that gallery reminds me of how out of touch I am with Mecha these days. Hoping this first-in-a-long-time kit will help reignite old passions.

Cheers, mate, I'll look forward to posting progress in future threads.

>>5684719
I might end up getting this, to display on my desk, for nostalgia's sake... but I want my next kit to be something completely fresh and new, for sure.

>>5684729
He's arguably my favorite Gundam ever, but I loved all of the endless designs. I bought my friend the bigger Sandrock, the badass one with the cloak, and he just about melted with satisfaction putting it together. Good times.

Not sure exactly how long this is but it's an option. Might be better with an HG.
>>
>>5685096

MSG Weapons are usually closer to HG size.

The MG Kampfer comes with shotguns, maybe you could find someone willing to part with one.

A 1/6 Shotgun might also work but I'd probably be kinda oversized.
>>
>>5685364
Some of those are really big on a hg like a zaku or gm. Koto shotgun is half the size of the kampfer amazing

The only advice I can give is use it as a chance to learn new techniques or products. Get out of your comfort zone. If it blows up in your face you can always just touch up one of your previously finished models and take that instead but if it works out you will have one of the best models you've ever made and know that you did your best.

Bit of a newbie, I've assembled a few HG and MG kits now, and want to get into painting. I don't want to get way into it, at least for now, but I'd like to touch up some kits and cover up the spots where I cut parts from the runner. Would hand-painting be perfectly fine for this? Would I still need to apply some kind of top coat afterward?

Also, any tips on lining? I seem to either get them too thick or barely noticeable.
>>
>>5685913
Its gonna be hard to hand paint without some sort of primer. For tiny details its probably fine though, just rough up the surface and apply a thicker blob. I believe kawaguchi has some tips on touching up without a full coat of paint, so check that out.

Yes you'll need the topcoat regardless. Matte makes everything look decent

Use washes, by the magic of fluid dynamics and capillary action the paint lines itself for you. Or, just use a cotton swab dabbed in alcohol to remove excess panel lines.
>>
>>5684969
Cutting those treads must be a pain in the ass

I read the guide in the OP, but to me it feels like it assumes the reader knows a lot about painting in general, but I know absolutely nothing about painting anything. Is there some place I can find good information on all of this? I don't even know what a wash is.

>>
Nowhere NEAR the size of sdcc. A couple of hundred people at most
The guy running it doesn't seem to have a clue.
Last time I saw it was £20 to enter one kit, and they may destroy it if they suspect its bootleg or someone else's work.
>>
>>5686843

G-Con is going to be an absolute trainwreck.

I am still on the fence about going because I think the /idea/ of a Gundam convention in the UK is a good one but the fuckers running it haven't got a single clue about events management.
