For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

"Just a quick, simple HG build" I told myself, 4 months later I'm finally done, thanks in part to finding more time and winter fucking off.

Super simple build, seams removed, panel lined with this green dry erase marker I had laying around, and top coated. I took a chance and top coated the clear parts and I'm glad I did, works beautifully for these "silver sticker behind clear parts" type deal. Instead of only working from one angle the frosted clear parts scatter light and glow from every angle and don't look as plastic as clean ones.

Thanks again to my secret santa from last xmas for getting me this kit, I'll get to building Asshimar eventually.

Does anyone have a pic of what Alclad II Black Chrome actually looks like? Googling just gives me pics of the bottle and a bunch of pics of Regular Chrome or Gloss Black painted kits.
>>
>>5641978
Probably not a megascale, but I wouldn't be too surprised if at least the Barbatos gets a 1/60 NG, wouldn't count on the Graze as much.

IBO is getting alot of merch so something like a 1/60 NG is more likely in the realm of possibility. I think it would depend on how their western push goes I think.
>>
>>5642087
It sounds odd, but I think a PG is more likely than a NG 1/60 for Barbatos. Unicorn showed that the line wasn't dead yet, there's been a couple of P-bandai PG the past several years as well, Barbatos's kits sell well and are popular among modelers (Especially customizers), and it has a lot of P-bandai variant and add-on potential with all of its forms and equipment.

Huh, I thought posting was broken since my phone refused to load captcha, but I guess I was wrong.

Anyway, I wanted to ask, could you give me some measurements since you've already done it?

I need:
>horizontal distance from base of neck to the entrance of the shoulder hardpoint(ie the end of the blue piece)
>vertical height from center of hardpoint to base of neck
>length of the grey leg hardpoints

Arm position like the right arm in your pic

I forgot to mention, in cm please. I dont need extremely precise measurements either, just eyeball it with a ruler or something.

And here is the Vehicle model X-wing

Plenty of details. Most of the time will be spent on applying the stickers.
The stickers are great, but there are number of panels under the stickers so those detail will be covered.

Also would is there a way to avoid using primer? Are there gloss coats that can just stick to the plastic?

>>
>>5643001
well some spraypaints give a gloss finish, i'm sure many car models have sprays for that, and I want to say krylon does it, but the people here seem to hate krylon, but I love the stuff
>>
>>5642999
>>5643001
There are gloss clear coats that you can use

>>5643020
They leave things frosted if not sprayed right, great for beginners, not so much in the longrun imo
>>
>>5643037
wouldn't "if not sprayed right" be better for the more experienced user who knows what they're doing and won't frost it, compared to a beginner who will most likely frost it? I've had zero problems with it on everything from warhammer to historicals, spraying in my dusty basement in the winter
>>
>>5643063
It affects bith beginners and experienced paiters. And with rattlecams, you gotta spray it from a certain distance, shake it really good and check humidity before spraying, and even then you can still risk overspray or frosting.

Then again this is based of preferences. I used to use krylons but stopped and switched to airbrushing.

Current wip of the SPL 1/100 Mobius Zero release. A few fitting issues with it that aren't surprising, and everything so far has been fixable by either sanding down or going back later to glue pieces in. Plastic could be better but I was never expecting bandai grade anyway. I'm enjoying it so far.

Yeah I've airbrushed it before once, went down good and solid.
If you want to write it down (because I don't know if they still print it on the thinner bottles), here are Testor's recommended paint:thinner ratios:
Gloss
paint 3:2 thinner
Flat
paint 3:1 thinner
Why they changed it I can't say, people just liked it better that way.

Practicing doing all the lines and what have you, seems to be going alright?

How do people do stuff like the eye with pens and not stickers though? Seems like magic to me at this point.

Will waterslide decal silvering be removed with matte clear coats?
>>

For that specific kit, what I would do is cut off a very thin pice of clear pink runner and the cut and trim it into 3 small triangles.

For other monoeye's a regular thin cut of clear runner with some silver painted on the back make for much easier and better looking monoeye's than freehand painting them.

its a model, you use plastic cement for models. super glue is for gluing non-plastics like metal or glass parts.

also i just looked on Hobby Search and they have manual scans and runner images of the Arppegio kits. the big 1/350 sub is molded in color and may be snap together, though alot of the parts look like they glue on and the manual lists glue as a required tool for construction.

>Is it at least less prone to spontaneously combust like the RG?

It's much more prone to falling apart. Shoulder to upper arm peg-hole connection is loose, the neck balljoint is weird as fuck, wrist balljoint has to be pulled out a bit to stay in place, ankle guards, knees, laps tend to pop off. The thrusters are a complete pain in the fucking ass, definitely need to be glued in.

Suffers from usual bootleg fit issues, but can be remedied quite easily by a bit of trimming / drilling / sanding.

They lost the ball on the seams in the forearm.

No toe joint hinders it a lot.

>Does it live up to the ver ka name decal-wise and leg for days?

28 of the Katoki inspired text+circle decals, a few warning ones and four EFSF decals. Eyes and cameras are decals too. Waterslides.

Is there something like a starter kit from tamiya or something?

>>
>>5648804
Thanks, now I know.

how much would a good airbrush go for? I can find em extremely cheap and extremely expensive.
>>
>>5648797

Everyone knows about the airbrush and the compressor and the booth and all of that stuff in the guide, but you need to figure in the costs of all the other little things you'll need. Do you have something to keep mixed paint in? Do you have lacquer thinner to clean with? What about very fine tweezers if something should land in the paint? Do you have clips and sticks? What brands of paints will work for you? How many do you need? How much masking tape do you have? What sizes? Do you have fine enough sanding stuff for paint? and so on

Basically don't expect to pay less than 500
>>
>>5648822
I recently spent like 200 USD (not from USA just for reference) in a compressor a cheap but good build chink airbrush, like 20 bottles of paint and some tools. Most of the tools are from art stores and are really cheap, paint is a little expensive here (tamiya) and I just order hard to get colors from HLJ (vallejo). I paint in a box with a shit fan that sucks air out to a window and I'm pretty happy with my set up.
>>
>>5648822

Get something like the iwata HP-CS, don't cheap out on a brush but you don't need anything crazy either. You're going to regret buying a shitty brush every time. Get a compressor with a tank, it's more even and won't drive you crazy with noise. Money on tools is almost never regretted.
>>
>>5648831
Is there really much of a difference between the neo and the HP-CS? because the later is expensive
>>
>>5648854
Neo sucks ass, it's assembled in china with poorer tolerances to the glorious nippon steel that is the HP series
>>
>>5648854

neo is tougher to maintain and has softer nozzles apparently, you can find more on google but thats the quick answer
>>
>>5648869

softer nozzle meaning you have to replace that, and likely the needle as well
>>
>>5648869
>>5648866
Okay I'll keep using my chink knock off until I can afford a real iwata
>>
>>5648876

I've had my HP-CS for over a year and spray weekly and it's still awesome, the nozzle is just like new no flaring or anything, it's been great.

speaking of airbrushes, I wish there were a model where the integrated cup had a very smoothly transitioned dip in the back so you could mix a small amount in the cup without having that first bit be either pure thinner or risking a drop clogging. I can't explain it well but people who have tried to mix a tiny amount in the cup probably get what I mean.
>>
Does anyone have a different airbrush for really wide areas? Something like car bodies or the nightingale where getting gloss with a regular brush can be a pain due to air spray.
>>
>>5648889
You shouldn't be mixing in the cup in the first place....

Hey, /gpg/? For green or green-ish parts (let's say like on a Zaku II), how would you go with panelling those? Using brown? Grey? Black? Another shade of green? Just looking for your opinions.

Has anyone used the MS Blade 01 from the Builders Parts HD before?

I've been searching around online, and nobody has really given a review on it. How is it? I've been looking into alternate v fins for my gundams
>>
>>5648895

Yeah it's not a common thing, I just mean for times when you have to do like 2 drops for a touchup or a beamsaber handle or whatever, it would be nice to have the option
>>
>>5648909

I've not seen them used, I think they are probably ok if you live in japan but for many people it's far easier and cheaper to make a new v-fin even of an intricate design than what that would cost
>>
>>5648902

I would use gray for the jegan and probably black for a zaku-ii. If you are using paint just mix a drop or two of green into those.

HP-CS has an all-metal construction and is higher quality. The NEO uses a rubber or PTFE o-ring to achieve an air-tight seal, which can be worn down by solvents.

>>
>>5649254
They're more geared towards Unicorn era stuff since that was what was popular at the time. Delta plus, unicorn, jegan, rezel, etc all have fairly big hands compared to average hguc.
>>
>>5649267

I got them for the GM Type-C, I thought I was ok because he was a pretty chunky UC suit

I'm not actually sure how I feel about them now, they fit the giant forearms well but they still feel big

I was planning to thin down the forearms already because they are so much proportionally larger than modern proportions and the upper arms, but if I did that with these hands it would REALLY look absurd.
>>
>>5648350
That's because that the original resin kit was perfection. Seriously, get it out of the package and just soak it in a degreaser/soak and go to painting. They either made it so the nubs were non existent or took care of them pre-shipping with a pro's touch. No fit issues and no flash. And of course it fucking sold out faster than I could hit F5.
>>
>>5649283
Yeah those hands are way too big. I wish someone would produce some decent looking petite hands. The Zaku IIFZ has it the worst. Its OOB hands look like they belong on a MG or something. Its gun too. The same gun on the Zaku IIF2 is like half the size.

It's weirdest thing because all the MS in 0080 have tiny hands, it's almost a little weird how small they are even.
>>
>>5649362

to be fair they are the same size as the other 18.5m EFSF suit poseable hands, I just compared them to the set from the origin and they are about the same, just slightly thicker in the palm. I think it's the proportions of the old kit that make them look particularly big

I'm planning on changing the proportions a bit anyway during this project and may have to break scale to do it with the internal frame, so they might work out in the end

>>

Gundam The End literally has hands hanging off of its back.

Zaku F2000 has two mini sub-arms on its backpack.

Advanced Hazel has sub-arms on its front skirts.

Dahack also has deployable weapons similar to arms, being 4 beam sabers on articulated arms on its back.

Seravee/Seraphim have a multi-arm gimmick, but it requires swapping out the barrels of the GN Cannons and you need to buy 2 Seraphims to have all 4 GN Cannons converted.

Nightingale's supposed to have arms in its front skirts like the Hazel and The O, but the RE 1/100 ain't got shit.

Newtype-use Doven Wolfs have arms inside of their arms when they launch them for remote attacks, if that counts. Probably not.

>Graze Ein
Those little machine guns in the shoulders? Do those count as limbs? I guess they count if I'm mentioning Dahack.

I guess I should also mention the Thunderbolt kits even though the sub-arms are barely posable.

hey guys. new fag to gundam and gunpla in general. i read the guide and I just have a few more questions. I'm planning on starting with RX-78-2 since I don't want to work with anything I haven't watched. how long does a project usually take? do all the kits require paint touch ups?
>>
>>5649937
>how long does a project usually take?
Depending on the model, can go anywhere from a couple of days to months. Painting and custom work adds to this as well.

>do all the kits require paint touch ups?
Nah. Often you don't need any paint whatsoever, but it can make a kit look much nicer.

Since you said you're looking at a RX-78-2, maybe pick up the HG Revive version. It's got good engineering, it's pretty inexpensive, and you'll have fun with it.

>Short answer
A kit takes along as you want it to take (i.e. how nice you want it to look) and not all kits "require" paint, but some are severely in need or recommended to be painted.

>Long answer
If you just snap a kit together and pay minimal attention to it, only doing nub clean up and stickers, it should take you anywhere from 15 to an hour depended on how fast you go and how much attention to detail you want.

Painting it, now we bump up to anywhere from a few hours to weeks if you really want something to be your magnum opus.
Painting is recommended here, especially if you plan on posting, and people love updates on WIP's.

If I might make a suggestion, don't be afraid to buy a kit from a different series because not all kits have the same engineering behind them.
Hell, IBO kit's have a completely different feel to them and their range of motion than compared to the HGUC kits. (Or atleast the ones I've built.)
As the Guide said the 00 Gundam is also a great place to start and has a little of everything to expect and to gain from building gunpla.

alright so here is my final question since I want my gunpla to at least look presentable. what are the actual details to them besides nubs. I may have missed it in the guide but I saw anons mention paneling and other things. is there a basic checklist I should do to clean it up? I don't plan on doing any mods or something like that. for right now just a few gundam (the zeon rx-78-2 looks sick) and a gorrilion zaku.

Nice quads.
Anyways, the absolute bare minimum you should probably do is:
>Step 1
Clean of the nubs, just use a nipper and exacto knife to do so. And if you so wish, or want to go the extra mile, use sanding paper as described in the guide.
>Step two
Snap it all together and panel line using a gundam marker, a fine tipped pen, or a mechanical pencil.
>Step three
Pose like that thing like it is piloted by JoJo.

The guide recommends doing seam welding and top coating, but for someone just getting into the hobby, it's not neccessary at the moment.
But if you want that kit to shine and look damn good on a shelf you should be doing exactly as the guide says.
>>
>>5647349
>>5649999
also can somebody point out to me exactly what about this took him so long with this model? I'm think I'm just very ignorant to this right now.
>>
>>5650014

some people just build a little bit at a time or take long breaks

most gunpla take anywhere from 1-5 hours to snapbuild depending on how seriously people take their nubs and how many parts there are
>>
>>5650014
That Nu ver Ka is a Master Grade, which is larger, has an internal frame, and many more parts than a High Grade. So it's naturally gonna take longer.
>>
>>5650014
Well that's on him, I highly doubt it was two months of non stop work, he probably had only a few hours to work on it per week, seeing as that kit can be pretty complex I can see it taking two months of really slow progress.

Checking dalong its actually got the highest parts count of any MG at nearly 600 (not like parts count is something anyone keeps track of or cares much about, mind you)

No, it only comes in 1/144, and most 18 meter Gundams come up to about 5 inches in that scale.

I think it looks good with the fudged-around stylized proportions, but I've read about how some people prefer the G30th's proportions. It's all a matter of personal tastes.

The HGUC Char's Zaku II is pretty good, but the best HG (1/144) of Char's Zaku I know of is the Origin version. It's a little more expensive, but has much more detail and opportunities for panel lining.
>>
>>5650276
Get Char's Zaku II The Origin ver. even though, stylistically, they're different. Might as well since, at the going rate of The Origin line, we'll get a bunch of Zeon and Gundam "prototypes" before we even reach RX-78-2.

The reviewer Dalong panel lines his kits with thick black lines to emphasize where the panel lines are, since he's a reviewer.

Instead what you wanna do is take a mechanical pencil or a marker or something, and fill in the panel lines like the ones on the legs on the right in pic related. For my first I used a .25mm Pigma Micron marker I got at Michael's, but a mechanical pencil can work too. You're not carving your own panel lines, you're just adding shading to the ones already there.

Do you mean faux pas? Yes, it's generally a bad idea if you end up with lines that go outside of the molding. It's still a good reference for anything aside from lining, since he only does it on UC and other kits that are a part of the same assortment, like the Revive Freedom Gundam, and 1/100s (his lining on 1/100s is much better, though).

>should I just look at the paneling from the show or origin? should I just be creative and do my own?
You'll develop a style you use effectively. Aside from that, make sure you clean up well as you're lining.

>>5650343
Usually I'd say during assembly, but sometimes you need a better feel for the kit before lining, and so you'd build it before lining. It's up to personal preference. I prefer to line each piece after cleaning the nubs and then snapping them together.
